Anal?

OK fess up! Who else out there is anal as hell about their cues?

Well, to a certain extent... don't ask to borrow my cue, my harley or my woman... although if I'm in a good mood, you might get the bike or the girl, but the cue is never very far away from me. Wanna hit a few shots with it, no problem, but it won't get away from the table I'm playing on, or out of arms reach from me.

I wipe my cue down completely with a lint free cloth before it goes back in the case. (well, there was one time I was running from a redneck bar with my cues in one hand and case in the other, with a refrigerator with a head on my heels, but that was a special circumstance). I don't use any of the waxes or treatments on the finish or the shafts. I wipe them down before I get up to shoot when it's my turn at the table and that's it. I have a seperate cloth that I use to wipe all the chalk off the tip before I put them back in my case and I NEVER sand, pick or shape my tips after their initially "broke in". I'm one of those that believes your tip will "shape itself" to your style of play so I don't ever fix it.

Later,
Bob

I try my best to take care of my cues and get nervous when they get near 'danger'. For the most part, I qualify.

My cue looks like a half-eaten piece of corn on the cob. As long as it has a perfect tip on it, I'm good to go. It's true what someone said earlier about Predator ferrules. They turn blue very easily and they seem to always end up bigger than the shaft. (At the point where the ferrule meets the shaft wood)

I try to keep my cues as clean as possible, using the Magic eraser when they get particularly dirty. You won't find a ding on any of my shafts, either.

My custom cue has a lacquer finish so I always wipe it down before I put it away.

Yeah, I like to think I take really good care of my cues.

Barbara

No. I clean the shaft of my cue with a Magic Eraser when I re-tip it, about 4 times a year. Hey, I use Elk Masters and they pound down into little blue wafer-thin mints, what can I say ! I also clean the blue off the ferrule at that time. The butt gets wiped down with a damp towel and then dried (not that it is 'wet' ) with an, um, dry towel, whenever I can't stand it anymore, perhaps every week or so. Otherwise the cue lays on the table in the basement... waiting ... but never for long :D

I saw the topic and thought we hit an all time low (or all time high, depending on your point of view :D) in this forum.

Barbara, is the lacquer finish on your Szamboti? If so, does he still use that? Do you have any silver (rings, etc.) in it? Have you ever had a problem with the finish not sticking and/or turning green over the rings? Thanks.

scotch brite?!!? You should be banished to using warpped house cues for ever. Thats a kill'in offence in my shop.

I don't think I'm anal, though particular. My conditions have to be right... I play barefoot, with particular music in my mp3 player, use my own chalk that no one else can use, and don't like when anyone watches me or tries to talk to me, either while I'm playing or waiting for my shot. Only use new to nearly new chalk. Clean my shaft once a week, using rubbing alcohol on it between cleanings.

Marissa << maybe a little anal

Scott,

Yep, that would be my pride and joy! Barry still does lacquer finishes. I have one beaut of a ring. Instead of ivory and ebony, the ring contains maple and the red and black veneers that match the veneers on my points. I think he's only done of handful of those rings, mine being the 3rd of such when I received the cue in 1997. And I've never had any problems with the finish over the ring, either. Why? Have you?

Isn't Earl a redneck. All redneck's grind there cues into the chalk, kinda like the noise of fingernails going down a chalkboard. Just ask VAPoolplayer :D

PS WW is a longtime redneck, so no offense anyone.

I resemble that remark!!! I use cue wax and burnish the shafts also.

Chalk - Always bring my own, green never blue, roll it across the tip, never grind.

Shaft Cleaning - I've only used the Magic Eraser once and it did work great. Normally, I use a water based hardwood floor cleaner sparingly sprayed on a clean, soft cotton cloth and then buff the shaft. Sounds kinda erotic doesn't it? Please don't make me write the name of the cleaner, no please don't! No, no, no! It's called "Bona", there it's out in the open! No kidding, I get it in the grocery store and it really works well. Doesn't raise the grain, remember just a spritz on the cloth and buff. It's cheap, won't hurt your shafts and is easy to use. Whew! Thought this thread was getting out of control didn't you!

Yikes!

There's a Bona in the anal thread. *exits stage right*

I remember watching people get their brand new McDermotts that they thought were so hot, then scotch briting them between games to the point you actually saw dust piling up on the floor. Needless to say, at that room there were a lot of shafts sold. I guess it was lucky the place had/gave a 20% discount on all McD's.

Fast Eddie taught me how to do that!

You'll never find a ding in my cue shaft, I take very good care of it. It is only 8 months old and still looks brand new including the shaft. Never wipe it or sand it between monthly cleanings.

Only in the most extreme need.

My cues are burnished to a glass finish.
Who'd make sawdust from that?

Context is everything. The point was I carry all my junk around........for just such an emergency :)

You had me at Anal!

I admit it. I saw the title of this thread and I thought now we're gettin' somewhere. OH, only to be disappointed when I saw it was a thread about cues.
