Analysis paralysis on buying a table

hah nice catch, I had not seen this, so how does one go about getting a table 250mi away? Try and find a local mechanic to go there and pick it up, or try and find a mechanic there to look at it and take it here?

Here you go, in Roberts, WI

Its a long drive, but you will only have to do it once, grab a buddy with a pickup truck or van : go get that son of a gun!!!! I can help with advice and as i mentioned in my last pm to you, parts and service manual as well!! powder coat those metal parts while its apart and you will be surprised how nice your table will turn out! Happy Hunting!

p.s. gettin the rail trims off is about as hard as it gets, moving slate is no fun , but, hiring a couple movers is an option if you cant do it.

thanks Trent, I will look into this and see, unfortunately I just moved here from another part of the country 6 months ago so I don't yet have a network of friends that I can lean on for something like this, so I'll have to discuss with the local store how much it would cost me to get it picked up and set up.

$$$$$, like i said, call a moving company( i literally do this when its too far to bring a helper) $200 on one end and $200 on the other. your best option IMO. you got this!!!! :)

p.s. do you realize how much they are gonna charge for the travel there and back??? gas is really expensive and so is time.

Another option I've seen used is going to the nearby gym and hire a couple brutes to do the lifting.

I have heard and tried that before. I have had a bad experience with one of those types! ROIDS make em mean and DUMB in my experience. I will stick with someone INSURED, aka a moving company. You get what you pay for in this world. I gave the best advice I got, if that don't work: SAVE AND PAY FOR THE RIGHT STUFF> The OP has an unfinished basement, there is nothing wrong in investing in a table that will be worth money. He did not mention whether this is his final stop or he will be moving again. Lots of details not included. I think he has enough info to handle this. He aint the first one to make a post like this and wont be the last, that I am sure of!

I would limit your search to a Diamond or Brunswick Gold Crown. Find the best mechanic in your area and let them know you are in the market and want help evaluating and setting up the table. Check eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, etc. It just takes time and patience. Mine was used in a tournament in CT maybe in 2007 and then stored away for about 10 years.

GCIV in Jim Falls, WI.
Hey OP, that’s exactly what you want, go grab that thing ASAP, do not pass go, do not post again until you have fully assembled new room pics for us. So much for good used GCs being hard to find, and $6k for a “restored” one…

Yeah, I just saw a nice condition GC4 on Facebook marketplace for 2500. It will probably be there a few weeks. It’s hard to find someone in the same area with “cash in hand” to buy a table.

Ha, that’s the same one I saw. I just realized it’s in the OP’s home state. That’s the one you want. The GC4 is way better than the GC3. Particularly if it needs new cushions. The cushions you can buy today from Brunswick are the exact same ones that will fit on that GC4. But the early GC3, all GC2, and all GC1 used an older shape that is 1000% no way to buy today. If it’s a later GC3 you are ok. But no way to know from the pictures which it is.

But those old Monarch SuperSpeeds can last a LONG time! Mine are over 50 and are great. I hope they stay lively and intact for several more years because I don't want to have to go through the subrail modifications to which you allude.

hah, what's with all the cheap GCs 200+mi away close to Minneapolis and not close to here, besides the one you just posted there's a GC3 in Roberts, WI, and a GC4 in Saint Paul as well.

Rent a panel or pickup truck from Uhaul for a day trip. Eat the cost of gas and go get it, have the sellers help you load it it they will.

the only hard part about any of this do it yourself type stuff: YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL< IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR LOOKING AT YOU COULD GET BURNED PRETTY BAD!! Either issues with the table or accidental damage.....
It happens to the best of us! I just got stuck on a 10- 9' GC3 table pickup and the guy was supposed to have 4 guys and himself, ended up being 3 including him for about 1/3 of the time and then he decided not to finish... We were supposed to load our trailer and box truck, not what ended up happening. We are awesome, he sucks and WE made it happen!! I was tore up physically from the whole thing 22.5 hour day, Toledo to Pittsburgh and back, STRONGER !!! :)

Those are long days. Absolutely the dumbest thing I did was let a friend talk me into driving over and back non stop from Central Montana to Cincinatti for what appeared to be a numbers matching 3C table. 1800 miles over, tear down and load up.. 1800 miles back. It was a brutal 2-1/2 day trip with no sleep. It was a nice table but it was cobbled together and it never was setup and played on. For the love of pool. Lol. Never again.

Buying a cheap table is like buying cheap coffee or whiskey, you regret it with every sip.
3K to 4K should get a used gold Crown.
Where are you located?
Gold Crown easy to find a grand or less.
Get a qualified mechanic to redo cushions and build out pockets correctly.. play ball
