Ancestry of Zylr Cue

Hello, everyone-

I know this may be difficult or impossible, but I wanted to see if I could determine the path this cue has taken since it left Kerry Zeiler's shop. At most the cue is 4-5 years old, but still could have had many owners. I purchased it a number of weeks ago from Vinniebabarooch (Troy). Pics of it can be seen here:

I spoke to Kerry at length and he said he has made very few all ebony cues (3 or 4). He asked if I could determine who originally purchased it from him. If you have ever owned this cue, please let me know the approximate date and year of your ownership and to whom you sold it if possible.

That cue cannot be 5 years old. I saw Kerry make that cue while I was frequenting his shop. He built that before the 2004 BCA in Vegas.

Also he has not used anodized aluminum that long.
I'm trying hard to recall what state that went to first.

The only previous age clue I had was that Kerry told my he started using Ivor-X ferrules 4-5 years ago. This narrows the age down a lot. Many less owners. Do you know if that is the original wrap? I appreciate the information, Joey-

The wrap is not original. When I bought it, I was under the impression that it had a brown with black speck linen wrap. If it had arrived to me with the original wrap, I probably would have kept it. I've never been a fan of leather. On top of that, Kerry does a really sweet linen wrap.

I owned the cue for about a day. I brought it in from Taiwan; took a test hit and determined that I would have to do some serious shaft sanding if I were going to keep it. Didn't really feel like sanding 13.25mm shafts down to 12mm, so I just sold it.

In retrospect, it was a great cue. I've owned my fair share of Zylr's, and can easily say that it was very much consistent with the rest of I've owned.

I'm currently playing with a bocote cue made by Joey Bautista [JoeyInCali] that plays better than any cue I've ever hit with. Since Joey learned a lot about cuemaking from Zylr, it plays really close to the Zylr, but not as bulky in my opinion. Since I've had this cue, I've sold off every other cue I've owned, including 2 Cognoscenti's and 2 SouthWest's.

So, if you own a Z or Bautista, you're in good graces with me.

Good Luck. It's a long wait to get one of Joey's cues. I am still eagerly waiting on the completion of mine. I would order another one but I don't know if I can live that long.

I think this ebony cue was owned by someone from Philadelphia or maybe Florida first.

This jives with what Kerry told me. Shane said he would have kept the cue if it had the original wrap. He says he brought it in from Taiwan, so it was overseas at some point. Looks like about 5 AZers have owned this cue at one time or other based on the PMs and responses I have received.

This is great. One addition, though, I think Roger sold it to Bogey34111 (Chris) who then sold it to Troy.

Its kind of fun to see the history of a cue. I once bought a really cool Jensen cue with points that looked like flames from Joe Salazar in OKC, I sold it to Adam Orr who in turn traded it back to Joe who sold it to someone he could not remember then I bought the cue from a dude at Hollywood Billiards in San Francisco and eventually sold it back to Adam Orr. Not sure where it is now but it was a cool stick. Thanks to eveyone involved for sharing the history of this cue with the forum.

So, we are very close. Snowmon34 confirmed he sold it to Chris, and Troy confirmed that Chris sold him the cue. If Jeff Wu was the original owner, then the legacy went something like this:

This really helps me a lot. If I ever have it re-wrapped, I will ask them to check the name under the wrap. I will also call Kerry and see if he has a record of selling the cue to Jeff.

where he got it, i don't know.
that cue hits unreal.
the wrap is a real ostrich leg wrap.
paul fanelli and mike webb both looked at it at the show.
they agreed it was real.
i did sell it to troy.....at a steal.
wish i had it back.

That solves the wrap question, cool. Sean from CueAddicts told me he saw it at the show. I think Don Sherman bought it from Roger.
