Annoying Chalkers... Comments?

What's wrong with Mike Dechaine's chalking?

Seriously? You don't think chalking in outer space is odd?

I have nothing against Dechaine and I truly think he's a great player, but it's really strange. Shane made fun of him about it to his face on the TAR Podcast.

I just watched some of a match with Mike and Earl and payed attn to them chalking and there was nothing wrong with the way Mike chalked up.

I like the ones who hold their cue OVER the table while chalking. That really makes the table play better,NOT!! I had a good buddy that had the BAD HABIT of laying the chalk down on it's side every time he got done chalking. Well when he came to my house,I said hey man.. I wish you would put the chalk right side up so it doesn't get all over my table. It about drove him crazy trying to stop but after a few years he has learned. Now he's a good chalker and a much cleaner player.I know It's hard to break out of them ole bad chalking habits but It doesn't hurt to let people know they are doing it cause most do not. Just explain to them what it does to the table...unless you are in a bar..then I wouldn't,lol

PS: I have bank dvds to sell and I will have some at the Derby,Thanks!! John Brumback

Blowing the chalk off the tip

Guilty as charged. :o Though, I do it more out of habit than anything.. sometimes I don't even think I'm close. Now, if I can just get a couple more banger habits ingrained, I'll be set!

There was one bar semi-regular that would drill the chalk.. you could hear it crunching. Fortunately, I haven't seen him in a while and he was really only that bad when he got wasted. My OCD acts up when I see chalk sideways or upside-down. Also, I just have one favor to ask..

Please, for the love of god, stop walking away from the table with the chalk!!!

Ok, I'm done for now. :)

You are correct, there is nothing wrong with it, but it's out of the ordinary. Some people hate it and I think it's just silly. Watch TAR podcast 34...

Again, there's nothing wrong... It's just funny. Don't be so defensive. There's also nothing wrong with the way Keith McCready shoots, but some people sure do think it's stupid.

I hate when players have to get down on their object ball first. Like they are going to shoot it but I know they are just finding their aiming point. I don't mind on some shots but some guys do it on every shot. Drives me crazy.

Many of the people that do this.....wanna see their eyes cross?
...ask them which part of the cue-ball hits that contact point they're looking at.

maybe you should see an optometrist, or maybe that wasn't Dechaine playing Earl

I only watched some of the match but he chalked what I see as normal the cue on the floor holding it near the end and wiping chalk on. I seen the tar podcast with Shane and he didnt chalk like Shane said he did, maybe it was only for the 10 mins I watched but It was normal.I dont normaly watch players chalk but this thread made me watch.

Soooo... You don't watch them chalk, but comment on a thread poking fun at the way they chalk... Sure, makes sense :p

No I don't normally pay attn to it,this thread made me think of it when I watched the match and what I seen was mike chalking normal that doesn't mean he does it a lot but the 10 mins or so I watched he did

The only thing I can add to this incredible thread is I hate the drillers, the ones that feel the need to spin that cue tip into the chalk as if they were drilling for oil. It's not the way to chalk a cue, but I would imagine about 99 out of 100 make this mistake. Every piece of chalk in a pool room is nothing but a shell, unusable at even a quarter of its life, due to this bit of human nature. The right way to chalk is to brush the chalk across the cue tip, creating a nice relatively shallow groove.

It reminds me of driving. Nobody wants to admit that they're one of the bad drivers, the ones who don't know what they're doing, the ones who have the record of being at fault at the accidents. Everyone's a good driver, if asked. And everyone's a good chalker. Yeah, sure.

I've never been irritated by how someone chalks their cue.

It seems to me some of you people are sharking yourself by worrying about nonsensical stuff like that.

Ohh okay. Actually I chalk like him too but just that I chalk how the way snooker players chalk.

Perhaps Corey is just a fan of The Hustler and TCOM. Fast Eddie was a driller in both movies.

chalking doesn't bother me...it's the idiots that think they need to powder there whole damn hands like there a F$%&%$& power lifter that annoy the crap out of me.

Then again I have a friend who insists on using tan chalk so he doesn't get any blueing on his shaft is annoying. It lets tan streaks al over the table lol Poeple are always giving him shit about that.

I've only been to one place, in my entire life, where I witnessed people keeping hand chalk on the rail like the Filipino's do. It was so damn messy.

What honestly bugs me the most, is when someone asks to use the chalk I have in my hand. Which is usually my chalk (I hate the drillers). I actually had a guy on Sunday say "LET ME SEE THAT!" and reach for my hand... It didn't end well lol

I've had another somewhat annoying situation with chalk, one of the guys who
plays likes to have as much chalk on the rails as possible, seen him go get another cube when there was already 6 cubes on the rails, very strange.

It's a "look at me" thing. Squeakers also pound on the bottom of a Snapple bottle instead of merely shaking it for the same reason-probably 'pack' their cigarettes too. If you are a squeaker, i will assume you are a jackass. So far only one has turned out otherwise.

Most musical chalker

So much for the kibitzing about the most annoying chalker. How about Earl Strickland, the most musical chalker of all time.

Go to any part of his 2nd world 9-ball title match in 1991 and listen to him chalk. I don't know what tip he was using or what rhythm he had going. I've never heard him do this again. But the sound of him chalking in this match was musical. Has to be heard to be believed.
