another getting my cue on a plane question...

sword on a plane

No, not snakes.

And not a story.

A couple decades pre-9/11
brought back a sword with a carved ivory handle in a hand carved wooden sheath from Spain. Still have it, but can't sell it; guess one of the grandkids will use it to cut up a watermelon someday.

Got thru security (non-existant); had the sword in a large gym type carry-on; the stewardess just asked what it was and put it in the compartment up front where they also put carriages, umbrellas, etc.

Those carefree days are gone.

Archie Bunker had the right idea: just hand out guns to all passengers and let someone try to hi-jack the plane. Swift justice. Except I'd hate to see the plane looking like swiss cheese.

Ron Kilby makes a carry on 3 piece cues for traveling

I haven't seen Ron since he moved out of Tucson and went to Oregon. I still have one of his original break/jump cues.

Anyhoo, I wrap my hard case in a big beach towel. After that I put it into a nylon bag that is actually made to carry a beach chair. I've done this many times and it gets to Vegas no problem along with my big bag with clothes. Baggage handlers haven't done me wrong yet :)

If someone here posts that they were able to bring a cue onboard, it's likely an individual TSA or airline staff making an exception, or not knowing their own rules.
Thousands of people travel to Las Vegas for BCAPL and APA Nationals this time of year, why not ask someone who came back what was the most popular method.

FWIW, last time I went to Las Vegas, I bought a large wheeled duffle bag and my case and clothes went in with no problems. Any wardrobe item that I was missing, I simply went to Ross Outlet to buy/replace.

No. Even a 3-piece travel cue is not allowed as a carry on unless the security simply miss it.

You can't have it both ways. Which is it? Someday, you're gonna have to choose.

Not sure what you mean.

If I wanted to fly with my Joss now I would, I just wouldn't pack it in the Fellini. I might put it in a Kopy Kat case, a JB rugged, or something protective like that and put that in a checked bag.

I just don't want my Fellini to get banged around.

Before 9/11, I carried my cue on the plane with me, in a Fellini case.

I traveled the the US and Europe with my cue as a carry on. Normally brought my Jack Justis case with me on every European trip, prior to 9/11, and just put it into the overhead bin.

Freddie <~~~ things are so rough today

I must have had bad luck. They made me check it a couple times so I just started packing it in a big check on bag I had.

They stopped me right before boarding, when they are collecting baby strollers and stuff. At that point they said it was too long. I am guessing it happened because I was on a very full flight and they were being extra observant to try to conserve space so everybody's stuff fit in the overheads. Just a guess, but it happened twice and I stopped trying.

I'm not shipping my cues. I'm taking a carry on for my clothes. Here's what I'm planning on doing with my cues. I'm going to wrap my case in bubble wrap (I use a butterfly case) and then put it in a shipping box and tape it up good. Then just check it in like you would your luggage. Does anyone see a problem with this?

That's exactly how I carried them last time I flew. No problem at all.

I use a baseball equipment bag. It has a compartment for bats that my hard case fits in and the rest has enough room for several days worth of clothes.

well after looking at the predator case I'm using it's plenty sturdy except right at the top . Predator makes the new butterfly case so you can bend the top back and not fully open the case. There I'm going to put some bubble wrap around the top of my cues. for a little extra protection . then zip it and lock the case. If it gets broken I'm sure there will be plenty of places to buy a predator road line and it will play the same as the one I got lol

It's just a damn cue stick tSA!!! Why does it have to be so tough.

It has to be so tough on flyers because this security theatre has NOTHING to do with cue sticks, knives, guns, umbrellas, sewing needles, wheelchairs, toothpaste, or terror, even.

It's all about something else and this thread demonstrates the effectiveness of that.

I purchased a Predator travel case from Seyberts. It's come with lockable zippers, backpack straps. Works great for me.

There's a potential market here for any of the forum guys living in Vegas.

Sure, you could send it to the hotel, but it can get lost real easy.

I'd be willing to pay another $5-$10 to ship it to someone's house.

If I lived in Vegas, I'd tell everyone to schedule their cue to be delivered to me by (two days before Vegas tournament).

The day before the tournament, haul all the cues to the venue in my car/truck. Set up near exit ___. ID required to pick up your cue.

Sure, you'll have the stragglers/delayed flights guys, but most of the packages will be picked up that day.

At $5, even if only 50 people ship their cues to me, that's $250 for a few hours work.

Not bad.

I wouldn't want to be that guy if anything happened to even one cue. Seems like too much liability and a likely hassle.

I'd rather ship it directly to a post office or mailbox etc. in Vegas if I went that route.

Still think a baseball bag or hard case of some kind in regular luggage is the way to go.

Anyway , worked for me,;

Best to all in Vegas!

I don't know about any of y'all but I fly regularly and on my last dozen flights TSA has inspected my checked-in bags.

If you are going to wrap your case leave the top open and available to the TSA monkeys.

I always want my cues protected well. look at the way things are thrown around!

delta has length rules on all carry ons. I have a metal travel case for cues and a longoni(Pred.) case with locks too. I have had to ck because they are considered a weapon ! TSA has always wanted to look and then i relock them for the trip.

1) predator soft case worked fine. Wrapped the end of my cues in bubble wrap and ran some bubble wrap down the middle. Came back perfect !

2) I saw multiple cue cases being carried on the plane. I flew spirit. When I asked how they got a way with it he said security asked what's in the bag. He said a cue stick and they said ok lol guess you have to. Get lucky. I still wouldn't take the chance
