*Update: The Gold Crown is here! Another "help me buy my pool table" thread...

Good evening all! I've been lurking for the last few months and finally found the perfect reason to join the forum and introduce myself. After spending the last 15 years in my first home without a pool table due to room size issues, I now have a new home and man cave with enough room to get my own. I grew up playing pool at local pubs and the occasional friend or relatives home that had a table and have always loved the game. My goal is to get my game to the highest level possible and to beat all my friends, family, and new neighbors who all have 8 footers in their man caves to play on the regular.

This Friday I'll be heading to a local billiards store in the Atlanta area and buying a Connelly Kayenta ($2490) for roughly $3k with delivery ($275), Championship Teflon cloth ($111), and a starter pack ($189) My other option was an Olhausen Alpharetta in the same price range. Yes, I'd love to find a nice Gold Crown or used Diamond as I've seen a lot of you all recommend in the past threads that I researched. But the market for those in my area doesn't give me a lot of confidence. So for $3k, should I pull the trigger or go another route?

Nice first post, educated yourself

Id say pull the trigger while you can

You getting a 9ft? Get the big table :)

The only drawback to home models is they don't resell well

Check with local pool halls and table mechanics to see if they can give you a lead to a reputable GC for sale.

If your retail store sells hot tubs; patio furniture and the like, run!!!!

Be patient and hold out for a commercial table that will last you a lifetime, and your children's lifetimes as well...

Thanks! I love the big tables but I'm going with an 8 footer. I could squeeze a nine in, but it would make things a little uncomfortable. Plus, every one of my playing pals have 8's. And most places that I shoot at do too.

I've held out for 2 months of searching on my own with no luck or at least nothing reputable in the area. The bug has got me and the trigger is cocked and ready. On the down side, delivery and install is going to take 5 weeks. So I can still come across a good deal and switch up!

Man that's alot for a 8ft table

9ft would give you an advantage over your buddies with 8fters,

Have you checkEd fb? There's so much going on there compared to this site in sales

There's a GC III done by Mark Gregory on Atlanta Craigslist for $3850. Plays to Diamond specs he claims. Completely redone, and georgeous. 9' and more money, but THAT'S one fine table!!!

An 8' GC or Diamond may be a bit harder to find.

Unless you have wife-related concerns about the looks, I would not recommend buying a new furniture table. They depreciate at least 50% once you buy them.

I would just be shocked if your local free classified ads aren't full of adds for used tables for under $1,000 (perhaps well under). A good mechanic can move it and recover for maybe $500.

To be honest, I would start with a mechanic. Most good mechanics either already have some tables or at least know who is selling and can sell you a table and do the instal. Ask on here for some recommendations for mechanics in your area.

Thanks, I'd love to go that route and truly believe in the buy once cry once theory! I still have 4 days to countdown. Any good recommendations in the Atlanta area?

Welcome aboard. Being a member here will change the action real fast. Be patient and someone will help you get the right table. Nothing wrong with an 8.
Buy it right the first time. Never mind being concerned with re-sale. A good table is like luggage...it stays around forever.

Yep, I saw that one and then an older (1966?) model for $1850. The one for $3850 is nice but, by the time I drop a $300-500 bucks for relo, I'm close to $5k with no warranty.

Koolhand you are getting some great advice from some top members here. Most good furniture tables will irritate you after awhile. The eight footer is nearly a thing of the past but if thats the table that fits best than go for it. Connelly and Olhausen make decent tables that play ok. I would know because I owned both at one time. I bought a new Diamond in 07 and never looked back. Good luck in finding the perfect table and let us know what you decide.

A good table with no warranty is better than a different table with a lifetime warranty. You dont need a warranty with a good table.

Mark Gregory is in Atlanta area and is one of the top mechanics in the US. He is a member here. Contact him.

If you are extremely lucky, he might have an 8' GC that he has (or can) rebuild. Even if it's a bit more expensive, you will have a table as good as anyone can find. A 'Mark Gregory rebuilt table" is a whole different animal than just some random used GC.

Here's one from CraigsList....Peachtree, GA
$900 with accessories...cues, balls, rack, etc

It's an eight-foot Olhausen....offer him $700....I think you'll get it...
...the cloth looks good enough to re-use....
...but pay a billiard mechanic to pick it up and install at your place....
....that's cheaper in the long run.

The advice you get here will be get a used commercial quality table.

OH, Diamond actually makes new home model tables in the $3K range that are close to commercial quality than home quality. Check out their website for models and pricing.

What is you room size, btw?

olhausen makes the best looking home table that fits in. i heard they fixed their pocket problems they wouldnt address previously that almost made them bankrupt.
they play well with great craftmanship. just the pocket rattle destroyed their market.

if you plan on pool room play, get a diamond or gold crown.

i am looking now as well. north west oregon.
