I had mine. And i don't even know whose fault it is. Asked for refund but Cue maker claimed that he have no cash with him already :/ Any similar experiences?

Do we really need to go here with all the negativity? I understand bad things happen and things sometimes do not go our way but do we need to keep bringing up all the negative experiences?

Nope i am not being really negative here, in fact just wanted to learn from my mistake and even other's mistake so less of such stuff will happen and we will all know how to ward away from trouble. It was due to my lack of knowledge even though i have been looking through the forum for advice but still landed into trouble. We just have to read this post positively but not with a mind of making use this chance to bash someone up. Right? :)

If you have a language barrier or communication issue where you can't tell the builder what you want,
then maybe ordering a custom cue isn't the way to go.
Most people can successfully order a custom cue by themselves.
Communication is important, especially if something goes wrong.

Use the forum for some feedback on certain cues & builder rep, but I wonder how anybody ordered
a custom cue before the internet.
EVERYBODY must of been in trouble back in the old days.

people are not going to tell you if they had a bad experience with a cuemaker. Even if I understand their reason, why you should not warn other people?

I had a terrible experience with Ernie Gutierrez (Ginacue). I ordered a cue from him at 19.25 ounces. He said it would be ready "sometime in March". March 25th the cue was done and he called me to pay him and pick it up.
I get there, the cue is perfect and beautiful but it feels a little light. We weigh it and lo and behold it's exactly 19.25 ounces. So I ask him if he can make it heavier and he says he can, but he likes to use the woods only to weight his cues so rather than him slamming a weight bolt in why don't I just sell this one and he'll make me another that will be ready "probably around September". So I pay him and sell the cue for $500 more than I paid him, in about 12 minutes here on AZ. I send that cue to the buyer and he's overjoyed.

Sept 15th Ernie calls me and my 19.5 ounce cue is ready. So I go to pick it up and its perfect.

There outta be a law.

Thanks

Kevin

I don't blame you for being upset

I also had a terrible experience with Tad Kohara. This was way back in 1978, but its been eating at me still. So I go all the way to his shop and ask to order a Birds-Eye player at 59". Tad says he'll be glad to make me one but he has one right here at 58" and if I'll come back "next Tuesday" he'll have 2 30 inch shafts for it. I say I wanted it 29 1/2 butt and 29 1/2 inch shafts and Tad says, don't worry about it it will be "good as one piece".

I show up next Tuesday and Tad says he forgot I was coming, but luckily he has the shafts ready for me, he MAKES ME WAIT while he puts the cue together and then he thumps the joint and says "good as one-piece". If I wanted a one-piece cue I would have bought a house cue, you know ?????
Anyway I pay him $225 and storm out of there.

That night, playing pool, I'm about a ball better 9 Ball player just from the TAD cue. 30 years later, I sold that cue for $1500.

Makes me so mad.

Some time I'll tell you the story about the Gus Szam box cue. That really fried my brain.

Thanks, its great to vent,

Kevin

I don't know how Tad & Gina ever made it in the first place without the internet and AZ Billiards.
Someday these guys will be sitting around their shops with nothing to do, no orders,
wondering what they're going to do when they grow up , and reflex back
to this thread, and the way they treated Kevin.

I heard Picasso once made a customer wait for a $1200 painting. The customer went sideways but bit the bullet and waited the extra week while Picasso finished. 20 years later he sold that painting at Butterfields for 1.5M, but he'll never forget that slap in the face from the artist.

if I were you, kevin, I would limit my dealings with those two cuemakers to maybe just once every month or two. :grin-square:

best,

I had a terrible experience with Ernie as well. I ordered a cue to be 18.7 and he said no problem. when I picked it up it was only 18.68. I was furious but took it anyway. Can you believe that???

I had a bad experience with a well know cuemaker. The manufacturer's name isn't important, but make no mistake about it, this company makes cues that play well. Their cues have a solid predictable hit. The butt warped pretty badly within 3 months and I was told a new butt could be made for $195. Some warranty. The only peace of mind I have, is knowing I talked 20 or so players out of buying one from that company.

Gina JPs cost twice as much as the butt of your cue and come with NO WARRANTY (of course they don't warp either). So, there's that.

Thanks
