I am someone that suffers from chronic back pain which also affects my hips. I have to see my acupuncturist who also does chiropractic medicine every so often to get my hips readjusted. I highly recommend acupuncture. It did wonders for my back in those times where I was barely able to move. While the relief may be somewhat temporary, if you are in excruciating pain then you were up for anything.

Sounds to me very much like sciatic pain next with hip problems. Mine can turn into a burning fire when it is at it full force. Luckily the sciatic pain has it hit that level in quite some time. Had to have surgery to fix that problem.

On top of a moderate to severe scoliosis, 2 ruptured discs, degenerative disc disease, bone spurring etc etc etc, I recently learned about the joys of sacroiliac joint pain. Its a keeper, let me assure you.

I google searched for exercises that will help the area, as there is usually a muscle weakness that goes along with these issues. I found some for the SI joint, which might help you too, depending on exactly what is going on. Even if these exact exercises wont help, there might be some worth looking for that are hip joint specific.

From what you've described, it's pretty bad.

Just wondering how close you are to 65 for Medicare?

I had a hip replacement two and a half years ago, July 31, 2014.
I used to be in bad shape because of that lousy joint. I am much better.
Even though it was my right hip I was driving a Ford Fusion (a rather small car) in four weeks. I was cautioned not to for much longer, but I showed my therapist how I was able and she just rolled her eyes and did not say a thing. I think she knew I would be OK but she was not legally able to me it was OK to drive.

I had some home PT , and part of it was walking with my stroller outside. One day and without warning, I walked up to the car, unlocked it, got in and started it up and I commenced a short, one sided conversation through the open window. I was able to use the left foot on the brake, and I think that was the reason she did not give me a lecture.

I don't know what to tell you about your hip. I was lucky that the Veteran's Administration did the procedure. If it was not for me being in the VA program I do not know what I would have done.

Best wishes,
Dave

Slim Limpy is right. If your hips are degenerating, the pain will increase with time.

My brother suffered horribly with his hips. He went to every doctor available. He even went to a chiropractor, thinking he could help him. The chiropractor called him back in the next week after looking at his x-rays and seeing him walk with a limp and said his hips are rubbing bone on bone, that he needs to see a doctor.

My brother did have a limp when he walked, and he was almost crippled. He finally went to the VA, but they blew him off and said there's a waiting list of 6 months to get hips replaced. My brother was in awful pain. It broke my heart.

Right about this time, the VA was getting heat about having vets suffer with long waiting lists to get treated. I went on a letter-writing campaign via e-mail to the medical director of that VA medical center, the Senator and Representative in Congress of my brother's area, the Secretary of the VA, the chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee in Congress, et cetera. The next day, my brother got a call from the VA medical center to come in.

This time, he saw a new doctor who said Ray was in such pain that he needed to operate within 10 days. Because my brother was in perfect health, not overweight, light build, they were able to do an implant that didn't cut into muscle, which made the healing process quicker. A few months later, the doctor called and said, "Let's do the other hip now." My brother got it done right away.

The good news is that today, my brother is pain-free, absolutely pain-free. My brother got the ceramic hip. The healing-up process differs for everyone. My brother was 63 when he had it done, and it took him about a week to heal and walk normally again. They will give you exercises to do while healing. You can rehab at home, but if you can go to a rehab place with exercise machines, et cetera, it might speed the process up.

Until you get diagnosed, what helped my brother during the painful days was to go swimming. When he was in the swimming pool, it gave him relief on his hips. It is only temporary, but when you're in pain, you will do anything to get rid of that pain. Also sitting in a hot tub helps. While he was healing, he bought one of those chairs that rises when you hit the button to help you stand up. He got one on eBay or Amazon for about $300. Also, there's a seat you can put on the toilet that sits a little higher so you don't have to experience trouble getting up and down from the toilet. Get a hand gripper. It's a long pole with a gripper on the end of it, which will help you grab things you can't bend over and pick up while healing. There is also a handle you can put in your car door that will help you stand up from the sitting position.

Hip implants are common today. Check out Steve Carell describe his experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5dF3dKUk6g

He talks again about it on the David Letterman show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Z0po_rIVo

get some insurance while you still have Obamacare. they cant not insure you do to preexisting conditions, then get your operations or whatever is needed.

only a fool goes in pain and wont find out what is wrong and get it fixed. it isnt going to get better only worse. and worse sometimes means it becomes permanent.

get your act together before its too late. if you have no assets and income you can get medicaid for free. dont be stupid any longer

sorry to slap you in the face but you need it to save yourself tons of more grief.

Get Obama Care and then find a hip specialist who does the "Anterior" method. Much quicker healing than the old method. Had an acquaintance who did it this way.

Many naysayers about Obama Care and I admit that it needs some tweaking but it saved my daughters life by enabling her to have a complex cervical procedure that replaced 4 discs at the same time. 90% compression of the spinal cord. She also has had a knee replacement.

one stroke - I went thru this 16 years ago. Had back surgery that worked, but I lost feeling in my foot. About 2 years ago the pain started again. I had X-ray and MRI taken that found a shifted vertebrae in my lower back causing Sciatica.

The pain comes from the nerve in my back but it feels like the pain is in my hip. It's almost as an ice pick jabbing.. or a screwdriver pushed inside my hip socket that is turned sideways every step. I can't raise my big toe up at all.

Today I can only walk short distances without it flaming. The doc says the nerve needs blood. When I walk the nerve gets pinched stopping the blood supply and it starts screaming. After sitting down it calms down and I can walk.

I've tried everything short of surgery to help, but only with some short term relief. Exercise does not help and sometimes will start the nerve flaming again. Shots in the back will only help for a short period.

Your problem may be different than mine, but I have a suggestion. I think acupuncture is something to try because it does relieve the pain. I can walk further without that damn nerve screaming at me to stop.

Good luck...

I have the sciatic nerve issue. Kicks my butt. Just signed up for the Expo after not want to go through the torture. I did get shots in my back which the first two lasted 2 months each. The last one lasted almost a year but now its back. Dont want surgery but may get to that point. Anyways, the shots gave me relief for a period even though brief. Not sure if that an option for other injuries.

Thanks guys ,, it's caused me to do some more research, the glucosamine may not be helping the hip but seems to atleast be helping the knee so I don't have two limps lol

Harvard studies have shown excersises / therapy prolong surgery by about 6 yrs however the key is you have to stay in motion the worst thing is to stop , weight is a factor I'm 60 lbs over weight so that's first on that list , after that there's some less invasive stuff shaving of the joints some natural herb stuff that might help with inflammation
I have already experienced some relief I'm walking better still a slight limp but not really painfull sleep has been better just have to be carful how I move been able to put my socks on who thought that's a luxury has been for me

I'll post back after awhile for others like me
