Hey guys I have Bern playing for a while now and have been using a players HXT cue The next cue I want to save up for is an American made cue. I would like to get an idea of 2 or 3 cues to shoot for while saving up. I would like to get something Under 400 dollars but if there is something around 600 that is just so much better to justify the price I may go for that but mainly I am looking for something under 400.

So first what is the best made in USA under 400 dollars? If there are any around 600 that I just that much better tell me.

I also plan on adding a low deflection cue.

Thanks

AF

For the money

I would like at a OB cue, great cue. You might find some nice sneaky pete custom cues in that price range, like a Josey Sneaky Pete from $400 to $600.

We have many cues in that price range. All come with your choice of any of our performance cue shafts, and are 100% Made in the USA.

The prices on our website are MSRP. Search out our dealers, listed on the website, and you can find some even better deals!

You will have a ton of choices at the price range of $400, if you want to buy an American made cue.

Some popular brands are OB cues, Joss, Schon, Viking, Meucci, Jacoby, McDermott as well as many of your local cuemakers.

They will all play differently. I strongly suggest that you TEST HIT the cues first to see if it fits your game.

We are all built differently. What works for someone else may not work for you.

I find it amazing that most people will test drive a car before they buy, but very few will test hit a cue.

You are right, but it is much easier to test drive a car then a pool cue. A lot of people live where there are no Billiards stores and a limited selection of cues in their local room even if they have one.

Think it's great that you're focusing on buying American!

My first cue many years ago was a Joss, and I still have it and it still hits great. Have had many offers over the years, but luckily never let it go.

Joss was a smaller operation then, but I've played with the new models also, and the hit of a Joss sounds and feels much more solid than a Meucci, McDermott or Viking. Plus, under $400 buys you a great cue, including shipping, and a set of joint protectors. The Janes family stand behind their product as well. I'm sure you'll be happy if you decide this is the way to go.

Thanks Royce

Nice to have a cuemaker answering. I love my Josey's, and have played with many others. I do have an OB break cue, which is amazing, and I will tell you this. We have an exceptional pool player in our pool hall who has had expensive cues through the years, but just bought an OB playing cue, and he absolutely loves it. He said you can't beat it. Especially since you are looking for a LD shaft, since it will come with it. All you need to do is decide which OB to go with.

It would be nice to have all the cues mentioned and hit them to see which plays best for you, but I did do that one time and bought a Schon. Ended up hating it, the regular shafts were pathetic, spent about $1200 on that cue. Ended up getting OB shafts for it. Not saying they are crap, just didn't work for me.

With all that being said, "best" means different things for different people. It could be a look, a feel, a name brand. Have fun shopping whichever decision you make will be the right decision.

For under $400, I would recommend McDermott, Viking, Joss, Pechauer, Jacoby. Any of those cuemakers offer great values in that price range. Their quality is top notch for that price.

For $600 I would recommend a Schon, or a Bryan Mordt if your looking for a slightly higher priced custom. But any of the other cue brands mentioned above can get your some really nice looking cues in that $600 price range.

Find a used custom SP, worry bout the shaft and the tip and you will be all good. That is if your not trying to be flashy and your actually looking for a player.

Plenty of choices for under US$400... You can get a nice looking Joss or Pechauer for that, or maybe a sneaky pete from a higher-end cue maker.

And don't overlook used cues, either. Lots of good deals on them too, just check eBay...

Good luck!

Give Jacoby a try. Nice solid hit, excellent work and their customer service is the best. All personal experience.
I agree, no matter what you decide on, shoot with it first.
