Any good American made cues under 400 dollars?

It was good advice, and well intentioned.

Despite his intentions that post was way off topic. I would also argue that somebody who cannot run 10 balls still can benefit from a personalized cue. Heck, sometimes getting a cue is what inspires a person to become a better player.

So is that a rule now? A person can't have his own moderately priced cue unless he can run 10 balls?

Someone better alert the cue industry. Biz will take a deep dive when this becomes law.

Personally, even with my limited experience (and poor skills) I believe playing with the same piece of equipment every time is a positive to a players development.

No, I said it was good advice and well intentioned. I did not say it was "a rule".

What do you shoot with anyway?

These cues can be bought new for $400 600? Great news! Can you prive a link for purchasing?

I dont know about all of em, but gkloop has several Bob Frey cues for sale in the $400-$600 range. All brand new too.

Well, that's true, but spending the money on instruction instead may well inspire someone to become an even better player.

I've been flipping cues like crazy over the last year or so, from $15 cuetec to $1k Predators - I can honestly say I play the same with all of them and can't even tell them apart after 3/4 sessions with them. Some are LD, some have thin shafts, some fat, some are laminated, some heavy, some light, all have different ferrules, joints and tapers.

Spending a lot of money on equipment before you can really play is dangerous territory - expensive, too.

Just because you cant tell the difference between a $15 cuetec vs a $1k Predator doesn't mean squat here. The TC just wanted to know what he could get in $400 range and that guy gave terrible advice. I am surprised he is even a intructor.

Involving the discussion about the 10 ball post. Although I didn't ask nor did I need it it is good advice for a less experienced player although it has nothing to do with American made cues. With my current players HXT I can run 10+ balls in strait pool. I expect my game to improve even more before I have the money for the cue. I have taken lessons with Stan shuffet and am going back in September. Just want a nicer cue with more feel to it.

Hey guys I have Bern playing for a while now and have been using a players HXT cue The next cue I want to save up for is an American made cue. I would like to get an idea of 2 or 3 cues to shoot for while saving up. I would like to get something Under 400 dollars but if there is something around 600 that is just so much better to justify the price I may go for that but mainly I am looking for something under 400.

So first what is the best made in USA under 400 dollars? If there are any around 600 that I just that much better tell me.

I also plan on adding a low deflection cue.

Thanks

AF

You can get a nice Pat Diveney Sneaky Pete for under 400 with a Hoppe ring

I can't tell the difference between them after a while. The meaning, although patently obvious to most, has been lost on you, so I'll clear it up for you: you tend to adjust to the cue you're playing with, irrespective of how much it costs.

As for Dave Nelson being an instructor, I doubt it; how many 85 year old instructors do you know? But I bet he's got a fair amount of experience and wisdom to share...

Cue

You can get a good Sneaky Pete for $400, and Jim Baxter has been selling some good cues in the $300-400 range.

cues

You dont need to be slamed for wanting to buy yourself a nice cue.

I would start with joint type wood to wood or stainless steel .
go through your list and narrow down what style of cue you are looking for.

Also seek out a cue that will hold its value, and hold together.

most 400.00 used custom cues hold there value...............................

There are some good deals in here by honest people, just ask.

I am not a hustler (gambling in pool will either make you poor or get your thumbs broken) but the thing is that if I play with friends or some small tournament with people that aren't very good (like at the university i go to) I would not want guys comming up and going wow that's a nice cue awesome man and have them wanting to try it if it's an expensive one (don't mind people handling my cue if I know they will handle it with care). I also don't want people thinking "look at that arrogant ass hole with a fancy cue." so if I am going to invest in a sneaky I want it to be prety undetectable.

But you are so over thinking this.... so if you play with inexperienced folks they will NOT know you have a SP, with a joint or not. They won't even see it or know what it is.... We are not talking ring work here... it's just a black joint that look like a little stripe..... heck, just keep the ferrule dirty and scuff up the shaft with the edge of a leather pocket, and you are in business... now go buy a cue :)

As it states in.my signature, its a McDermott G203, which I paid less than $200 for. Modest, by forum standards. G-core shaft, too. But all in all, a decent cue, and it gets good reviews from all that hit with it. I only paid that much for it because I was on a league team that won our division championship, and I had a little extra money to spend on a cue.

I truly do believe your own decent piece of equipment to shoot with helps, with consistency.

Yeah maybe I may hold of on buying my sneaky anyway and try to get a nice cue for APA LAP and tournament play this time around. Really like the OB129 with an ob1 shaft, Joss JOS-74 and I also like the Pechaur P04. I need to try those out at a local store and see which I like the feel of the best.

Thanks Joss seams like one I will take a serious look at.

Like i said this is something I am starting to save up for as I am going to continue to play with my players for a while now. I am getting much better and can do some damage beating some SL6 players in 8-ball at APA but i know I can be better. I am not going to buy this cue unless I am ready to step up to the next level and it will improve my game.

I love sneaky pete cues but I would like to have a low deflection shaft on my cue when I am playing in tournaments as my switch to a low deflection shaft has helped me a great deal when i picked up the players HXTE.

You know i ended up having a players cue that someone gave me and i must say they are not a bad cue at all.
