Any thoughts on bca vegas

Having 700 rated players in an "amateur" league event is pretty tough. Limit is 730 but that is in the lower ranked pro level, and for BCA which is straight races, it won't be fun.

Seems the top 25% are put in the highest division, but going by what I saw while there, if you are a mid to high 500 you can be in the top 25% easily. Which means B+ players will be playing even with A+ and Open players.

Even a 700 limit would be hard on players that pay their own way there, I guess if you won a trip through your league, then it's a free ride so who cares then really. Just have some fun and see how well you do. If I had to pay my own way to Vegas for a week, no way am I entering an event with players 100 points higher than me. Local Joss event that will cost me under $100, bring it on, spending $1,000 or more on a trip to have someone run 3-4 racks on me while I sit there, nope.

I believe the platinum division was for the top 15%. The cutoff was around 610 Fargo or somewhere in that neighborhood.

I only payed attention to 9 ball really since I can't stand 8 ball on a small table. It's like trying to walk through a crowded bus.

That is what makes bar box 8 ball fun! More precise cue ball control and ability to break out clusters. I think 8 ball should only be played on the bar boxes.

Those who went to BCA Vegas, how was it for you? What did you observe? How'd you do? Was it better then ever or worse? Comments good or bad....Just curious....
Big turn off pros don’t play there any more
I enjoyed the tournament
Casino didn’t have shuttle
Met some new friends

Mixed 9 Ball was top 25, 8 ball was top 15.

How was Joey Bourgeois in the lower 9 ball division? What was the cutoff for Gold 9 ball? He is now 659 in Fargo and should be climbing. He won the Amateur division on the Lone Star Tour last weekend undefeated with more than a couple 650+ players in it. He plays extremely well.

Maybe he was in there with a starter rating. I checked on Fargo site, he only has 216 games in the system. But again, that goes to my thought that there are 20 honest players in the country. If he played in the lower side, he knew he was too good for that and should have had his rating adjusted before event started.

Does anyone have a link or know what the ratings cutoff points were for the divisions? I was trying to find that during the tournament and couldn't find it posted anywhere.

He is a good kid. 19 years old Just nothing gets entered in Texas. I just want to know if he had a starter rating and what the cut off was for gold. Maybe he didn't know who played about his speed who is in the system if he didn't travel much. I had never heard of him before.

Atencio is at 726 and that may still be low.

Hard to gauge these things unless someone has a ton of games in the system. I see some people with around 200 games who I believe are way off from what Fargo says.

It seems like this stuff happens each year and it is relatively new players to the system.

I'm sure Mike Page has all the stats for ratings, if this was for the 9 Ball Mixed (AKA "Men's" LOL) it stated that the lower 75% were in Gold, by my seat of the pants estimate from wandering around and players in the minis, I'd say that would be in the low 500s.

The equipment was great, the crowd was mostly great for the most part. Vendors galore, and our sponsor came through when our shirt company failed big time. Prices as usual outrageous as far as food and drink, nothing new there. The lack of ability to view the pros in the same venue sucked. I went to Griff's, very nice hall btw, and couldn't see much of the action with the pros with all the people crowded around the two tables. Need to move the pro event, and the pro/amateur interaction back to the Rio.

It seems that participation was down for most of the events, though I don't know the numbers. 114 degree weather for the week I was there didn't help much either.

Top six were all right around 600. 2nd place was 604 with just over 100 games in system. He had a starter rating of 540.

So if you start at 540, you could be in the Gold if the Platinum started at 550/560. I don't see the lower bracket having any 600s in it to begin with, and very unlikely to have any high 500s, say 580 or 570.

From 540 to 600 is a big skill difference.

3rd place was a 587 with 3,000 games. Someone who got eliminated early in final bracket was 621 with 581 games.

Go here: http://www.playcsipool.com/2018-bcapl-wc.html

Click on the event you want from the drop-down menu, and then click on Fargo rating to sort.

This looks to show their current Fargo, not what they entered at. I could be wrong though, but the skill ratings make that unlikely.

The lowest ranked player in the Platinum (current rating) is a 577, with the current ratings, there are like 30 players in Gold that were higher than that.

Joey went 2 and out at the Big Tyme Classic in Houston in April, and he went 2 and 2 at the Houston 9-Ball Open last Sept. That's all we had for him. And he had a 555 starter rating. Now he is established.

It looks that way to me too.

Our pool room has 2 different BCA pool leagues with two different league operators...We have to buy 2 cards every year, one for each league....Just received a notice from BCA that players only have to buy one card and it covers ALL leagues now.......
