I know this has been asked before, but has anybody came up with a new solution to the black marks left on the balls from a Diamond smart table pockets ?
I've tried, as was suggested to use hand sanitizer, not just to remove the black marks from the balls but also on the pockets themselves. I scrubbed each pocket with hand sanitizer and alot of the black comes off but not all.
That didn't work, so I went and bought pieces of undyed leather, formed them and double sided taped them into the pockets. They stayed for awhile but eventually come loose. I've retaped them numerous times with the strongest double sided tape I can find. The movement from the balls hitting them, loosens them.
I'm thinking of taking the leather pockets out and let them sit in something to remove all the dye. What do you think ? Would the leather pockets be hard to remove from the table? I was trying to think of something to get all the dye out without damaging the leather. Any suggestions ? How about alcohol or peroxide ?

Diamond buys the pockets from Hood Leather in WI. Try giving them a call

I wonder why Diamond doesn't resolve this issue, maybe even figure out why their tables bank so short too while they are at it.

Hand sanitizer needs a couple of applications

It has been my understanding that the hand sanitizer needs a couple of applications maybe even 3 or 4 and then the black marks are a thing of the past.

As the othe poster suggested, just try to buy new undyed pockets from Diamond or Hood. I think they are approx $600.00 per set.

The banks have already been resolved...a while back;)

Hey Glen, can you please elaborate a bit on this. I have only played on very old diamonds, and have always heard players talk about this. What are they doing now, different rubber, Etc,,,,,,,,,,

Just curious. Thanks

Players table?

If I spent the 3500-7500 on a new diamond (or tournament used) table and then had to turn around and spend another 600 to fix a problem that should have been fixed by the manufactuer.
Then they would need to come pick up the Table! (IE stopped payment) Especially from a company that knows this to be a problem, as stated by their Employee (contractor). I as the customer shouldn't have to do anything to the table other than enjoy playing on it.
This wouldn't be that big of deal except DIAMOND has touted itself as a company that listens to customers to fix the problems with their tables. Where's the fix?

just my .02

Diamond is in my opinion the most innovative pool table manufacturer in this country. What they are doing is making another improvement to what was already the best table on the market. (Again, my opinion) The new Diamonds are an improvement to the play of the previous version. What you're referring to is being offered as a retrofit improvement to an existing table.

I wonder, did Olhausen get this kind of criticism when they introduced Accu-Fast rubber? I can't imagine many Olhausen owners expected them to put the newer, better rubber on their table...for free! Of course if someone wanted to put Accu-Fast on their table, that was an option, but I wouldn't expect that for nothing.

Brunswick updated their Gold Crown designs from the 1 through to the 5. Do people expect their GC4 to be replaced with a 5 for free because a newer version was put on the market?

Diamond does listen to their customers and when they hear people say that the tables bank short, Diamond improves their design. Can you fault them for improving their tables? Of course not. This new change is the "fix" you're looking for.

If Diamond knew this to be a "problem" they would have addressed it a long time ago...if they knew how to, but that don't make changing a table to be better in the long run...wrong. Some people like the way the Diamond's play and don't want any upgrades done. So, who gets upgrades and who don't....depend on who wants them done, but as Josh pointed out, Brunswick didn't offer to go back and change and improve any of the previous GC's produced when they came out with a new improved version of the last GC's.

I'll do the hand sanitzer more.

Questions for Glen and/or Diamond-

1. Is the current pocket leather Pure Aniline, Semi Aniline, Protected Aniline, or Pigmented? Perhaps there is another process that can be used or another sealer?

2. Why doesn't the Nylon pocket work on the Pro-Am, as it does on the Professional? (I think that was the solution for that table??)

I'm surprised this wasn't fixed already...Why the delay? Is the problem more complex that we understand? I understand that the rail angle change probably required new machinery, but this seems like an issue of just changing/adjusting the spec on the pocket leather???

Has anyone talked to the leather supplier about this? Perhaps they have a solution????

Could you imagine if every manufacturer would upgrade your product for free every time they came out with a upgrade.

With that reasoning someone that bought a Model T from Ford would expect it to be upgraded into a Taurus.

No thanks, I'd rather stick with the Model T. Seriously!
