Be realistic. We all know that most of the cuemakers have problems with their schedules, because of the wood, too much work, etc. So delays of some months "is totally normal" in this business. But on the other hand, the cuemaker must be honest to the customer and tell him that the cue is not finished at the scheduled date, because ot that and that and that...... Normally most of the customers can deal with that and have no problem with some delays.

You pointed exactly, tell the Customer BEFORE the final delivery date

It will work out! Jim is one of the nicest cue makers I know. His popularity gave him to much work but he's almost caught up now. I have a lot cues and Jims cues are the tits! You'll get it!

Be realistic.

What is unrealistic about expecting honesty, or expecting someone to keep their word, or expecting good communication in the rare circumstance that they cannot keep their word for a reason that is totally beyond their control?

I see nothing about the cue making industry that would have an effect on anyone's ability to do any of those three things.

You keep on with these posts that are well thought out, accurate and right on point (not to mention the added bonus of complete sentences and correct spelling) and I'm afraid you're not going to do well here.

I think that's the second one today, so be forewarned.

I've said the same thing for years but the nits on here get mad and for some reason don't seem to believe that you deserve the same level of customer service from a cue maker as you do anyone else. I get it.. your not making widgets. Your making something unique. Things can take longer then you expect. Just give your customers a little respect and keep in contact and let them know what's going on. They seem to forget they are making an unnecasary luxury item.

Yes that's true unfortunately. Spoke to Jim last night and again this morning to see how he was doing.

If anyone needs something from Jim please reach out to me. I'm in direct contact and manage all of Jim's builds and customers.

He has a new phone number as well as email so that is part of the issue. Sorry for the miscommunication if there has been any. He is very close to being caught up and I am seeing to it that he does get there. Jim will be at my shop the week of 7/7-7/14 as well to help me setup equipment.

So again if you need something, contact me please.

(239) 823-0408 call before 5:30pm or text whenever.

Maybe my first words were mistakable because of my not so good english.
There is nothing unrealistic. Every points you wrote are totally right and I agree.
My point was: When the cuemaker is honest to tell the customer that there is a delay and ask for some patience, normally that is no problem for the customer. Open communication, a realistic schedule and honesty are the keywords for both sides.

The only part of your post I really had issue with was when you stated that months of delay were totally normal, as if it were for excusable and acceptable reasons. I think while months of delays are in fact quite normal in the custom cue making world, they shouldn't be, because they aren't usually for the unexpected and excusable reasons that can happen. The majority of the time it is because of their bad business practices. They "stretched the truth" when they quoted the delivery time because they were afraid if they gave a more honest and realistic time quote they might lose the sale, or they spent too much time fishing instead of being in the shop working so that they could meet those deadlines that they promised, and things along those lines more so than the unexpected problems that can come up to cause a delay. And if wood problems and such are really that common then they should have built that cushion for it into the quoted time, so still the cue makers fault really the majority of the time.

Your English is good, no worries. In fact it might be better than that of the average American pool player's English if judging by what you see in the forums,
