Anybody out there ever seen a Southwest cue under 19.oz???

I own one. All original, mid 80's, under 19 with either shaft. 6 pt with red veneer.

I've been watchin' for one. They must be few and far in between.
Don't do pictures, just never tried. I will try to get my son(KtownD) to post some. it is a great cue, everyone who hits with it falls in love.
No but it's also a wanted section and the post above yours clearly shows he is looking for one. Sorry Officer Premature Ejac looks like you acted to soon. :grin:

I have a friend that have an ebony on ebony SW made in 2000 that weight in at 17.8oz. He now has a new bender to play with so he might be willing to sell his. He originally paid 3K for the cue so if interested shoot me an offer and I'll let him know.

I think it's "pretty" clear that I've been looking to buy a SW cue on the lighter side. Which falls under the "Wanted" category.
Any more f*%$#in' question??
Hey Jimmy..... I was wondering the same thing about Southwest and them making anything under 19oz. I got on the list, but not gonna get a call for 8 years and who knows the quality of the cues by then. I'm glad to know they made some light cues, at least my curiosity is settled now.

It is fairly rare for a cue by SW to be under 19oz, but their are some. I am hoping to get at least one when my orders start to hit in a year or two. Why aren't they lighter? Several reasons. Jerry felt that certain weighted cues, properly balanced, outperformed lighter cues. Also, earlier on, before Simonis et al came out with "fast, slick" cloth, it took a pretty good stroke to move the rock, and cues tended to be somewhat heavier. Also, SW does not core their wood, so the wood combinations that a person picks has a lot to do with the weight. Want 19oz or less? Choose a lighter, less dense wood. Want ebony on ebony at 18.5oz, fat chance...
Who knows what the quality the cues will be 8 years from now? Fair question, but as long as SW Cues consists of the same 3 people who have been there since the early 80s, chances are that their won't be a lot of compromise in quality.
BTW, my SW weighs 19.7oz, but I swear to you that it feels like 19oz or less.

How very interesting. I wonder why they don't core the wood. But I suppose that has something to do with the way to cue will perform (consistency of hit), hit WAY more solid, and probably outlast some other makers. I prefer a light cue just cause I like to play for long periods of time (hardly have time to play when I'm on a job, so I take advantage of the free time I have for pool and stay all day if I can). I also have shoulder problems (bursitis), and the light weight helps a lot with that.
I guess not coring the wood is why I tend to see the same woods being used over and over again and why there are no burls or comparable woods being used.
I think I'm gonna come off the list, just cause 8 years is too long to wait, and my choices of woods will be VERY limited cause I'm used to an 18.75oz cue.

how about this one:
This is a beautiful classic Southwest custom cue that is made in 1999 in excellent condition and comes with original 2 shafts. The pin on the cue is 99 443. The only blemish to this cue is the finish flake near the start of the wrap (check pics) which can be easily refinish or touch up.
The cue butt weight in about 15.38 oz and each the two shafts are 12.45mm (3.5oz) and 12.52mm (3.625 oz). This cue is dead straight with only 1 of the shaft displaying a very..very..very slight taper roll that most collector would consider straight. Straightest SW that I've found to date...also have a predate that straight as arrow. Any questions, please PM...ASking $2250 firm..

I have one, too. It's the old mid 80's cue that was owned by Billy Steele that many felt was a Kirsh, but it has a letter from Laurie. Billy tweeked the shaft so it is the lowest deflection southwest shaft I have ever seen - the shaft includes a cut down version of the old original yellowed micarta ferrule & sanded thinner at the tip.
It plays great! Not much finish left on it and no frills 6 pointer, looks like it is or was an oil based finish. Good luck in your search.
