Anyone else with a 1 of a kind design?

And a little nervous to post a picture of it incase someone out there goes "wow, that is a great looking cue design! Let me print that off and get me one!"?

I designed my own cue and it always gets alot of attention, it was named by alot of people as the nicest cue in Calgary and even got Mike Sigels attention at the BCA where he noticed it from 10 feet away and had to take a look due to its unique and stylish design. I never had a issue with people in Calgary seeing it, noone would ever try to get the same cue made as it would be tacky in the same city and the cue maker that built it would not do it anyhow. Problem I have is if anyone somewhere else in the world took a pic of it I posted and got a exact replica made. If I ever went to Vegas or some tourney and some guy had a copy of my cue I would be pretty choked as I designed it myself to assure it's uniqueness.

It is a tough thing though, I check out this section often and enjoy seeing all the cool looking cues. I feel like I should probably post mine as well as I would not mind showing it as long as it did not all of the sudden start getting copied.

Anyone else on the board have that issue? A cue that is one of a kind and they dont post the pics incase the design gets copied?

I know JimBo has said something to the effect of, "even if I did have cues I wouldn't post pics here for the designs to be stolen." I am having a cue I desigend made right now and I am sure I will post it. However, it's not like my cue has anything that hasn't already been done before, however, it is a somewhat unique composite of windows points and ivory

If you take your cue out of your case and show it to somebody you open up that possibility. Here you increase that possibility. But IMHO if you are hesitant than DONT do it. This way you know, it won't happen here.

I have a cue under construction by Danny Tibbitts right now. It is my design. I'm sure that my design was influenced by cues I've seen in the past, so there may be design elements from other makers in there. Does that mean I copied someone else's design? Absolutely not. When I drew the design, it was coming out of my head...things that I had been thinking about for some time that I would like to have in a cue. I did not and will not research whether someone else has already built a cue similar to mine. That's ridiculous.

First, let me say that I might not be happy if I found someone else years down the road playing with a cue just exactly like mine. Would I go off on them and threaten lawsuits and all other forms of BS? Nope. I wouldn't be successful with that anyway. What it would mean to me is that someone saw a photo of my cue, or the cue itself somewhere and liked it. They wanted one for themselves, but Danny isn't going to build another one for someone else. So I know I have the only Tibbitts like it, and it is the original. I will have paperwork (and photos) to back that up. I would consider it a compliment that someone liked my design that much. Now, if someone built an exact copy, down to the signature (a forgery), and tried to pass it off as the original...that's a whole different story. That's fraud and I would prosecute it to the fullest extent of the law.

I will not be hesitant to post photos.

You Should Post The Cue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Reality Is That It Prolly Aint Good Enough To Copy For The Massis. And If You Real Conserned About It, Why Dont You Get Yo Design Copyrighted Or Patented Or Somethin. That Way You Can Stick It To Someoen Who Steals The Design Unless Theyf Rom China Or Some Asian Place Where They Dont Care.

I had an '89 mitsubishi. It was like all other '89 mitsubishis. I wanted it to "customize" it. So I took my trusty louisville slugger and "adjusted" the body style..........result: 1 of a kind "custom" car.

If you are that worried about having a "1 of a kind" cue. Design one, have a cuemaker build it, never photographing it, even during construction, put it in a safe, and NEVER show it to anyone, and by all means, don't PLAY with it.

Sounds a little rediculous, doesn't it?

Is it the shapes of the inlays, or the colors that you are worried about someone stealing? Could you post it in B&W and feel comfortable that it wont be duplicated? I find it odd to design something and commission its construction, just to hide it away.

UNTIL it is actually made, signed and dated.
I'll probably plot out a CAD drawing of it, sign it and date it.
After that, it can be posted anywhere, and i wouldn't care, because i made it first

I had JUDD build me a cue to my design back in 92. I still love the design of that cue with it's 3 hi 3 lo ivory points. It's a sweet cue that I'm sure the value has gone up over the years, especially since Efren Reyes now has one that is somewhat similar. I am a CAD designer and now have another design that I will search out a maker to build while I attend the Super Billiards Expo.

Have a question? If you truley have a one of kind design, why doesn't the cue maker sign it 1 of 1 and date it. Who cares how many times people copy it then. You have the orginal.

Yup I have issues with people stealing designs, we've been over it time and time again, for that reason more then 1 person here doesn't share photos and it's really too bad. But when we are talking about cues made up of different design elements from cues already made I'm not sure if we are talking about True one of a kinds. I think when people want to see true one of a kind cues you can look at some of TW's work or Edwin Reyes's work, stuff like that takes the hand of a master to create and most hacks couldn't even begin to understand what went into it let alone copy it. I'd love to see the cue in question just to see if I've ever seen another like it, I've seen many cues in my day. But I don't blame you for not posting the pictures, better safe then sorry, too many people here find nothing wrong with stealing to put it up.

I think when people want to see true one of a kind cues you can look at some of TW's work or Edwin Reyes's work, stuff like that takes the hand of a master to create and most hacks couldn't even begin to understand what went into it let alone copy it. I'd love to see the cue in question just to see if I've ever seen another like it, I've seen many cues in my day.

This is a cue I can pretty much assure you is unique and you have never seen anything quite similar before. I was actually going to post the pics but the pics were too large to upload onto this site and I decided it was not worth the trouble to resize them, I tried abit but going from 1.3 megs to the 100kbs required to upload onto this site was messing up the pics too much to bother.

Jim, did't you post an MT cue here before with Brazilian rosewood forearm and olivewood points and windows ( green, yellow and purple veneers IIRC )?
Edwin's a busy bee of late. Working on the dozen AZB cues and more.

I've never done a Brazilian/olivewood before. I did do a coco/olivewood and the owner (not Jimbo) put pictures here. There are also picturs of it on my site.

Didn't post those pics, just helped in the design and had a hand in the creation of that beauty. Murray makes some great cues. (oppps made LOL)
