i have used it a few times and you will always see the weave of the canvas, but in some cases it doesn't really look that bad.cuebird said:I have seen this material used in cues, didnt notice any difference in play. Didnt like the look after finished at all.

Plug drills on a drill press will work. Also after cutting in desired size squares you can use a centering punch and a hand drill with center drill in it will allow you to chuck it up between two centers for turing round.Tommy-D said:> I actually found a block of this stuff out behind the school where I'm taking machinist classes, while looking for a block of tool steel from what used to be our scrap pile before it was stolen. It's about 2 1/2' x 2 1/2" x 8". At first,I thought it was a block of wood. I agree,it would take some doing to make round parts out of. The easiest way I can think of would be to cut it into 5/8 squares, and turn it round while using a 4 jaw chuck. Tommy D.
I do that and also, I take a dremel with a cutoff wheel, and put 4 'channels' into the end going from corner to corner, so that I can use a 4 prong spur drive and the prongs will set into the phenolic, therefore the piece won't slip if the cutter grabs to much. Outside of that, you only need a good bandsaw, great carbide cutters, and dust collection systemcueman said:Plug drills on a drill press will work. Your welcome Dave, Glad I could help. I haven't done anything with the outer cuttings yet, but will in the next week or so. I may use alot of those for tips and ferrules. need any more, let me know, I have a 3ft 'log' of it.dave sutton said:esp with nice rosewood. thanks again dave for the brown you sent me. i havent cut it up yes but do you notice and change in color as you get closer to the outside?. i may be able to squeeze 2 butts and 2 joints out of that piece but if there is funky color closer to the outside i will only do 2 joints and 1 butt size
