I need a gear for my gearbox and wanted to check here before ordering one. I broke the 1st gear in my Clausing 5911 and I think the 5914 uses the same parts. It is a 12x36 and I need just that one gear. Please don't ask what happened, I'm sure it is obvious.

If anyone has ever replaced gears in this type of lathe and wouldn't mind sharing a tip or two, I am willing to listen.

Thanks guys.....

In the power feed or one of the gears on the back of the lathe. Picture might help.

In the gearbox which engages the lead screw. Internet is down for the moment, sending a pic via email would be easier for me right now if you think you might have one, I would be very grateful.

Sorry still using the gearbox. If it was one from the head to the gearbox. I have one of those for clausing.

Good luck!

How badly is it broken? I've had broken teeth repaired by re-welding and grinding.

Clausen still has the gears in stock. Google search and find the repair center and give them a call. They are usually pretty reasonable on parts as I have had to order belts, bearings and a shaft for mine. Was going to get local machine shop to make shaft but it was cheaper thru Clausen.

Ya, i already had to replace THE BELT. Learned a bunch doing it too. Thanks guys. I think this one's gonna be the most fun I've had yet in the cue shop.

SK, at least you're ok.
I can only imagine how it happened.
Lemme guess, power feed?

I'm re-tooling a 5914 myself.
I know which gear you are referring to.
I've taken down the whole saddle in my new project.

Looking for another one as 5914 is a little more robust than my other Clausing.
5900's are really cool machine for wood hacks.

Ya, I got a little too carried away trying different setups using the technique you shared with me. Fortunately nothing happened to me. I was real depressed at the time as I thought I totally fkd up my lathe for good.

I had to haul my good buddy Ken Ken over to the shop to coach me on dismantling the carriage. I got half way through it and was able to release the half nut and when I did, the gearbox dropped its nuts on the ground.

That just goes to show you how much torque there is. Now that you mention it, Joey, I realize that I am real lucky to have all ten digits.

I don't think I could own any other lathe than an old 5900 series Clausing. I am amazed at how brilliant the design is for a 50+ year old piece of bad ass machinery.

Thanks everyone for your input, i sincerely appreciate it.
