I agree.
That is not Brazilian rosewood. That's much redder.
Doesn't look like bubinga either. More like padauk or mahogany.

My argument against mahogany is that it is so light weight.

As for color, is this cue sanded and un-finished?

Looks freshly sanded to me.
I've seen house cues out of Philippine mahogany bottom. They turn brown when they get old. Same with padauk and bubinga.
If it's Brazilian rosewood, you'd know it by sanding. Very very oily like Indian rosewood.

Looks like Rosewood to me. There are so many types of Rosewood, maybe Madagascar Rosewood. I have a piece of Madagascar Rosewood that is about that color.

type of wood...

The first pics are rather small and difficult to exactly tell what kind of wood it is, but the very last picture says it all;

It's defenately Jatoba, also known as Brazilian Cherry. It will darken a little more towards red/brown when sealed and finished.

It is a rather stable wood when properly dried and takes a very good finish, without shrinking or expanding too much.

wood

Soo you do agree it is Jatoba...?

You know that not all the Jatoba is exactly uniform qua color and grain... And your piece was polished, wich makes it look more red/brown.

To me, the main grain of the pictured wood in the last pic, tells me it is jatoba... It's a very nice piece B.T.W.

It's a rough blank I got in dowel form, and the grain does stick up on the stuff, so I hit it real quick with some paper, and slighty buffed with a paper towel to try to show the grain better. It picked up a little shine when I did that.

You are correct about the color of It, If I wet it, then it will turn more of a redish color, so I imagine finish will bring more out. They do vary from piece to piece also.

The grain is very simular to the poster of the threads piece, even though the color looks different. In one picture his shows a straight grain running down the lenth of the piece like maple does. This one has the same thing but does'nt show It in My picture.
