I have no idea what has happened to my pool game.... I play like crap now 'n days. It's horrible. I have tried everything. Take time off, play everyday, get pissed, don't care, drink, not drink, bla bla bla.

Just a year or two ago i was a very strong A player in BCA and an APA 7/9. Today i'd say B player at best and my APA rating has dropped to 7/8.... I can't draw, chock on critical shots, miss ball in hand... WTF is gonig on here....?

I have slowly been putting on weight over the years and now i'm sitting at a FAT ASS 253 lbs. On a 5'9" frame that is too much. I wonder if the weight is or has changed my stance or arm swing or what. If it's not my weight is must be in my head. OMG, cut it off now.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and if you happen to find a strong A game running around looking for it's owner, please return. I'll give beer for reward.

253 on a 5'9'' is quite out of whack. Start there and good luck....it aint easy. Best of luck, Mitch

Try throwing out a bunch of balls on the table and shoot them all in. Don't worry about missing or if you don't get perfect shape. Although, if you play your shot exactly how it was in your head, take pleasure in it.

Here is the catch. Shoot every shot with your eyes closed right as you stroke. Get aligned, find your aim point, do whatever PSR and eye pattern you have, but close your eyes before delivery of the stroke. It seems to help me slow everything down, and take a more deliberate approach to each shot. Maybe it will help you too. You may notice that you can also feel what you're doing with your bridge, stance, stroke, etc much more clearly...

Try it and get back to us.

Any type of severe change to your physique can bring a change to your game.

Several years ago Mike Davis told me he thought his game had dropped from muscling up at the gym. Cut out the power lifting & his game returned. As a previous poster stated you might want to start looking at adjusting that 253 back to what you were when your game was better & see how it goes. Good luck

Lost mine years ago.

There is a stolen cue section. Maybe there should be a lost game section?

Problem is it has been so long since I saw it I can't remember what it looks like to describe it.

Getting in shape definitely wouldn't hurt.

I always suggest loosening your grip. I think a lot of shots are missed because of this.

I wonder if the weight is or has changed my stance or arm swing or what.

As seen through beginner eyes....

You need to verify your stroke is dead-on. Set-up an OB 2-3 diamonds from a corner pocket and a CB another 2-3 diamonds from the OB. This should be a dead-straight shot. Hit it with slight follow; if the OB and CB don't go in the pocket your stroke or aim is off.

Know the feeling. Doubt is my undoing. Trusting my stroke gets me back.

Want to play some? :D Like someone else said, get your confidence back by making a bunch of easy shots. Straight pool by yourself maybe? Also, if I find myself in this spot, it's almost always my mechanics. Concentrate on your fundamentals and see if that helps. If you decide to try to diet, I highly recommend low-carb. Cut your carbs to 30 grams/day and you WILL lose weight. For me it was about 3 lbs/week. I lost 46 pounds. This was without exercise. Good luck!

May want to have your eyes checked. I know when my prescription changed I had a hard time seeing my contact point quite as clearly as to my younger days. with the gain in weight comes with knee pain and lower back pain which instinctively makes you change your stance and that also throws off things. just my two cents worth... maybe its worth a penny

Well it is safe to say you are a guy I think.

Have you gotten in a relationship lately? They tend to ruin your pool game!!

Also you might want to try the aiming thread.....

:p

I find it helps to use a loud voice. Go outside and call out *^&^, *()%#$, ^%$^!!!!

If your game happens to respond the same as mine it shall be home soon.(must be French)

All the best

I can tell you my .02... I put on 30lbs, and I totally lost my golf game. I went from a 5 handicap to not being able to break 100. I would guess it might be the same with your pool game.

The weight has a lot to do with it... you're not moving your body like you're used to.

One of my One Pocket buddies started putting on weight (good home cookin'!)..
and his game went to sh*t... his back arm alignment, ability to get down on a shot, etc...
he started biking and light workouts, dropped some weight and his game started improving. He said diet was the biggie... ain't it always?:(

I certainly don't intend to be mean to anyone however the replies on this sound like "Excuses 101"

I get that adding weight will affect you but in a gradual add of weight, I suspect you're mind and body adjust with the slower pace of change.

I think the answer lies in what wasn't said in "the golf swing" analogy - if you don't pick up your clubs all winter AND you added weight, sure, you're gonna suck.

My idea, go FIND your game, it will show up now and again, it will be waiting for you at the pool hall. You may not see it there immediately, but it will show up - it's the only place it will show up. Stake it out, go there every day and find it. It's bound to be there if you're "looking" hard enough.

...and my 2 cents about the golf game, same advice but skip the cart rental, walk and that may not bring you to where you stated you'd been, but it will put you back on the right track.

Excellent

This is excellent advice.I do the same thing it is amazing how we can gradually get out of sync with our stroke . Eventually nothing goes in and we think our game is gone forever, by doing the shot explained here you will get your body back in line no matter what your weight is and the balls will start dropping.

Tco, I agree with your statement, but never rented a cart, always walked. As a follow-up though, I just never could get back to where I was, and gave up the game, gave away all of my clubs, and didn't look back. The only thing I have left is a McDermott putter I won in a closest to the hole at a local tournament.
