Anyone try Kamui Black yet?

Absolutely Amazing!!

the only drawback I have seen is it takes a little bit of work to get them really hold chalk well, them seem a little harder overall and I shoot with a hard tip. They take some playing time to get used to as all your english shoots can be shot closer to center ball. The SS feel funny when you put them on. And if you don't have a dark colored felt you will find yourself cleaning little black spots off your table.

I do believe thou that these tips have far surpassed what moori did with there original tips. I have had people ask me to take them off because they get to much action and a lot of people who would normally use a MS or M tip are moving up a hardness cause they get a better feel they say.

But be forewarned these things take some real getting used to.

Best tip I ever played with. I replaced an older Kamui II hard with a Black hard on my Mason cue and I cannot tell you how good the tip feels. I haven't experienced any chalk holding issues and the tip feels great. I sent Rick Howard two of them and he installed them on the new cue I just got (in the cue gallery). Can't wait to try that out.

Don't know about the longevity, but all the Kamuis I have used compress but never lose their shape, last a long time and hit great. i don't expect the Blacks to be any different.

Are they quiet or do they make a loud tick sound?
 
I had kamui black medium put on a new ob-2. The feed back is tremendous over the sniper tip. I experienced a mushy/soft hit with the sniper/ i2 combo as well as other shafts that i have snipers on. I originally thought i ordered a break tip when i got it, but its been great. They feel hard, shape like a hard tip, but grip like a soft. I think they should be rated a little differently tho, medium feels like it should be a hard in other brands. You definitely have to adjust to the additional english you can put on the CB. They hold chalk great, sometimes a little to good (usually after i ***** it). I haven't had any issues of it mushrooming, but i don't break with mine. I really would like to try a soft on another shaft to compare. It almost feels like its made of tar and leather when you ***** it.
 
hmmm seems like the language blocker doesnt like when you p.r.i.c.k your tip.

they have their own sound, its not a tick and its not a thud if that helps. how about a thwack!?
 
It's a harder tip than the Kamui (Original). The sound it produces is not a tick, but somewhat hollower sound. As a person who likes hard tips, this is better for me than the Original Kamui Hard. You gotta try it.

Kamui Black

Joey, got a black M tip in but have not tried it yet. Just put a M II tip on a 6-pie purpleheart cue I finished and the sound the thing makes is not impressive. What is impressive is the amount of english. I have not had the noise problem with any of the other Kamui's I have installed, which seem to be about all I am putting on these days cause everyone loves them once they get used to them. Thinking of putting a different M tip on or going to a MS for the purpleheart cue as the sound will drive a new customer away. Seems like more than one of the respondents has noticed an odd noise from the tips.
 
Black Kamuis

I have installed about 7 or 8 Kamui blacks already and they cut extremely well on the lathe. They chalk extremely well so I am not sure what gwjackal was referring to, actually I think they chalk better than the white Kamuis... I shape and cut the tips on a lathe with a blade, so that might make a difference gwjackal ;)
Having that said, I really, really like them, I mean... a lot.
One thing... On my second tip installation the tip came off on the lathe about 2 days after being installed...:mad:
I called the Kamui rep and he told me a little secret... that actually applies to all layered tip installations. He told me to after I face off the ferrule, to clean it with a drop of lacquer finish or acetone - some ferrules are actually a bit oily and this way you clean and dried them properly with the solution and so far the tips I have installed are flawless and I even brake with them sometimes.

Having only one playing cue to play and to break with I hope the tips never come loose. The first Kamui tip I put on my cue flattened out in about 4 days and had to be reshaped to play right but since has held it's shape.
Wondering if the noise from the tip is different with a through ferrule as compared to a capped ferrule?
 
My playing cue is a Kikel with a capped ferrule and I installed a Kamui on a non-capped ferrule and did not notice any noise.
Also the Diamondback Tip Venom Anti-Mushroom Formula will avoid mushrooming on your tip, i is amazing what that stuff does, highly recommended, I use it to burnish all my soft and medium soft tips.

I put a Kamui Black SS on a pre-cat 314. Hit a couple dozen balls with it & couldn't wait to replace it. MUCH harder than a Moori Med, Wizard Med, Everest... Didn't think the action with it was anything to brag about either. I don't think they do anything to "grab" the cue ball. Tried Kamui Med Soft w/ the same general impression. I won't require any more Kamui tips of any variety.
