So last night my APA team recieved our check for taking first place in the summer session. We were shocked to see that the check was for $225.00. Now keep in mind, we pay six dollars a night. It was a fourteen week session with ten teams. Also this is a bar league so the LO does not pay green fees. This means that the LO took in $4900 dollars for the summer session and for winning first place the LO payed out $225. The numbers are literally laughable. I havent called the LO yet but he will be getting a phone call soon. To me this is basically just stealing everyones money who pays to play in that joke of a league. Has anyone every heard of a payout this bad. And can anyone honestly deffend he APA or the LO? Thank god this is our last session in the APA. We will be moving on to the BCA in January. I have never contributed to an APA bashing thread but i have just had enough.

Um, you get a check for winning a session? This is news to me. Is this standard with other APA teams here in the US? Our money goes toward the Vegas fund along with other things. If you have 8 people on your team that is about $28.12 a person so you get your money back for 4 of the weeks you played. I would be happy to get any money back lol.

Edit, we pay I believe $6.25 and get a free drink and no money back even with winning a session. No complaints on my end for some cheap entertainment to try to go to Vegas and compete at the same time.

WOW, that does seem low. However I don't know how much of that $$ they took in had to go directly to the APA. I also don't mind people making money for the time and effort it takes to do something like this. Still I agree that does seem like a wierd number. I hope your LO takes another look at it and has made a mistake. Most LO's I have ever dealt with are usually fair and want to do the right thing.

Welcome to league pool...i play in a BCA league and our payouts are nothing to brag about either, however one night a week to spend with my friends playing pool having a few beers and a lot of fun and laughs is well worth 6 bucks and the cost of beer to me...i take it for what it is and like many league players its not the most important 3 hours of my week...

OHHH, See I should keep my mouth shut when I don't know what I am talking about. I was not aware that this was something that is usually not a payout. If the LO has decided to throw a little $$ to the players that is a bonus thats a good thing and a nice gesture. I thought the way it was originally put that this was a customary happening.

It is a pool league. It is not a tourney. Nowhere does it state that there is a 100% payout of even 50% payout. The league operator is using that money to run their business, advertize, web site fees, and it is their living. Plus they have to put money aside to send teams to Las Vegas in August. Your payouts are going to be very low. Just think for your 6$ you play pool all night and hang out with freinds in an organized competitive environment. That is most pool leagues, not just APA.

Mark, I am not sure what the norm here is in the US for APA so maybe getting money back for winning a session is common...just not for us. Like I said I don't mind though, as the money goes toward the Vegas trip where we get our flight covered, free registration, 1/2 price room if we go on our own, all the room paid if we go with another qualifier, and usually a little bit of spending money as well. Not too shabby for $6-7 a week if I play.

As far as the pay-outs go, it's a league, not a tournament. If you're not having $6 worth of fun every week then don't do it or join a different league and ask about the pay-outs in advance. Pretty simple really.

Our BCAPL session lasted 20 + weeks. We finished 1st and received $2400
and 4th got 200$ even last place team got money. This was an in house league
Been there and done that with APA

Also keep in mind that this region holds close to 100 teams and they only send two teams to vegas a year. So thats not that much money to put aside. Also i understand this is a league to go out and have a good time. And i understand that there people are putting in work running the league. To me its still a joke.

Seriously, you got a check for winning a session in APA? Where do you play? The only money paid out here is to Vegas trip winners. We pay $7/wk.

A mentally challenged monkey could run this league better than they could. The LO that the OP is talking about is pretty much the most incompetant person I have ever met when it comes to running a business. There should be a payout for the top finishing teams, not some ridiculous looking plaques that cost probably $25 to make 8 of them. I'm sure most LO's are different but this guy (trust me) is an idiot!!:bash:

Not every APA LO operates that way. I've been fortunate enough to be on a team that won our division 2 out of three times this past year. Our 8-person team split just over $800, giving us a little over $100 a piece. So that has happened to me twice, in my first year of playing... I guess I'm a little spoiled. :p

(The second time we won was really a matter of good fortune meeting good timing. We only got into the playoff via the wildcard drawing, and then proceeded to have two good weeks in a row. At least good enough to win 3 out of 5 each week, just enough. phew. Then lost to that same team in our Tri-Cup to keep us from going to states, sigh. We got the money, they get a chance to go to Vegas. I guess it worked out.)

We're fortunate that our LO gives a decent payout. (BTW, the second place team gets just over $400 to split, each session, as well.) But the argument remains, if you got into playing league for the money, you got into it for the wrong reasons. Even if your LO payed out like ours does, too much has to go right to ever "expect" to get any money back. I certainly get my $8 worth of entertainment value from my night of league play. god knows we won;t be getting any of that first or second place money this session, the way we're playing lately!:rolleyes::D

Pretty simple really. I beleive it was said in the original post that he's not playing APA anymore so that if I'm not mistaken would constitute as not doing it.

The cost for (flight, hotel, registration, rooms, little payback or "trip money" for us at least) for all the people who go adds up more than people may think, especially when staying about 5-6 nights if I remember right is what it is for teams. If you are playing for money back for winning sessions, APA is not the league you should be playing. You are playing in a cheap league to compete, hang with friends, and try to win a trip to Vegas. How can someone really complain for spending $6-7 to play a pool match (if you end up playing that night), and hang out for 4-5 hours. I know that doesn't include your spending for booze or whatever, but seriously that is really cheap if you think about it. If you want a bigger payout play in another league. Be happy you get any payout, we don't and I am fine with that. Also the LO isn't doing this all for free as there is a lot of time put in to enter scores on the website, advertising, singles boards, tournaments, etc...

What I don't understand about this scenario is the fact that the payouts seem to have been a mystery until they were actually delivered. In my BCA league, each session begins with a players' meeting at which we agree on rules, fees, and payouts. No surprises. This a room league, not bar, so we pay greens fees. We pay $15 per week. $5 of that is greens fees, $1 goes to the LO, and $9 goes into the prize pool. We play 4 person teams. Last session the first place team split about $1100; there were 12 teams that session. All teams receive payouts, though they are small for the lower placing teams. This is a handicapped league, so teams of all skill levels have a real chance to place high in the money. If you can find someone willing to run a BCA style league, I think it's a good way to go.

We pay $8.00 on 9 ball night, and $7.00 on 8 ball night. I've never received a payout check and we've won first place of a session several times.
We have to win the "cities" tournament to get to Vegas. I just hope to get to there someday.

If you want to play in a major tournament, why not just go play at derby city, it's open to anyone. Or you can play at Valley Forge.

You don't need to go through any hoops to play at those.
