APA first place payout=JOKE

I know one bar league that gives back 100% of the $$$. A league i started playing in cost $10 a night and you get a free basket of wings and pays out around $1000 -$700 depending on how many teams are in the league for first and the you get a free pass if you finish top 3 in the league to the regionals where first place is $3000. There are also individual awards of $50 and a trophy for highest avg, ero, total points,10-0.

APA League Operators shall we say do OK, as League Operators. I once asked one of the BCA League Pperators in the Valley of the Sun how come the APA Operators could afford such large ads in the local pool newspapers. He said National APA support the Local Operator with part of their fees back for advertising. Think locally the APA Operator pays back at end of season like 40% is the number I have heard.

I play BCA, pay $7 a night, $.25 for every scratch, 14 teams. No Vegas sponsored teams, but we do get an end of season party after every season. our payouts used to be around this level until it was discovered the league operator was pocketing about half of all money collected. "Sweet" little old lady, who'd have thunk it? After she was booted (and fired from the bar), the payouts doubled. Payouts are based on both individual results as well as team standing.

Now we have a BCAPL Operatort who run the Cue, and cushion League in the Valley that PAYS BACK 100% of the Weekly Dues at Seasons END!

I run a BCA League here in Phoenix and we pay out 100% of the money back to the players. $7/person/week in dues.

Last season just finished up with 8 teams for 16 weeks. Every Team received money

We paid out Individual awards for Win Percentages, Most Wins, Most Tables Runs and then all the teams got some money back to use as they wish.

1st 1110
2nd 900
3rd 700
4th 510
5th 270 (split)
6th 270 (split)
7th 120
8th 80

Plus the Team that finishes in 1st gets their Team Entry paid for to Vegas. ($250)

(Bare in mind that a trip to vegas for us is about a $20 tank of gas.)

We're starting up again on December 8th and still looking for a few more players and teams!

The Bar pays for Shirts for all teams going to State or Nationals, a Free Team Drink every week, matches the pot on mid and year end tournaments and hosts a big banquet at the end of the season. with free food.

Another thing people need to understand is that Pittsburgh is pretty much not on the map as far as having a pool scene. There is one tournament per week and even the payout for that is beat. I think last week the payout was $125 for first. I am all for hanging out and drinking beers with my pool team considering we are all pretty much brothers but the fact of the matter is, we want some freakin cheddar and that's the reason we aren't playing in the APA any longer.

If you want to play in a major tournament, why not just go play at derby city, it's open to anyone. Or you can play at Valley Forge.

You don't need to go through any hoops to play at those.

I'd love to.....just don't have the money to travel on my own. Any little bit the APA can put in towards my expenses helps out greatly. I do see your point though......it would be nice to hop a flight for a weekend and be in a big tourney.

I think if you're playing in a pool league to "make money" you're an idiot. Try to pick up gambling, pimping or better yet--- try a job.

Pool leagues are for ENTERTAINMENT ONLY.... just like that poker machine in the corner of the bar (that accepts $20s for "fun").

That's it! I'm moving to AZ!

This sound like a BETTER DEAL than the APS's DEAL!

In your opinion, pool leagues are for (all caps) ENTERTAINMENT ONLY. However, people start playing in pool leagues because they enjoy the game and they want to improve. I've never heard a person say, "man, I'm gonna go out and see how bad I can get my ass beat tonight." By the way I have an extremely well paying job and so does the OP but who can ever have enough money?

If you want to improve try tournaments, gambling, lessons, and most importantly practicing/training at home or a friends house. Trying to improving playing in APA while it happens of course is not the best route to try to up your game.

Hmmmm

So last night my APA team recieved our check for taking first place in the summer session. We were shocked to see that the check was for $225.00. QUOTE]

Hey, that's what the team in our league got paid too...for finishing in 8th place !! LMAO.

The in-house league is set up so most of the money goes back to the players....it is "our" league afterall, and we don't need to pay some LO tens of thousands of dollars to run it for us.... 18 teams playing in one nice pool room on GC with Simonis !! Plus we are "sanctioned" by ACS which means each player has to pay $20 per year, but that allows them to play in the state tourney for singles, and team tourneys.

Yes, we know we do this for fun, but it's competitive and why should the money go to someone else rather than us !! We earned it..... only person who gets paid is the gal who does the schedules and stats everyweek !!
And the house gets a few bucks for the tables every week.... the rest is paid back in money and trophies !!

I can go to Vegas anytime I want... I don't need a welfare pool system to send some team of sandbaggers to Vegas on my dime !!

I never once said i should make a ton of money playing in the league. I also stated that i understand this league is just for fun. But my point is. The LO took in almost 5000 dollars and only paid 225 of it to first. That seems a little shady to me. And further more theres no need for you to throw jabs like get a job. Everyone on my team has a job full time and most of us go to school to. So before you go talking a bunch of trash read all the posts and make an informed comment. This thread is not about me or anyone on my team. Its just the fact that these LO make A LOT of money for not doing much work.

I'm not talking about my game, I've played in big tourneys. My game is fine. I started playing in APA about 4 years ago and I am a B+ player now. The league that we play in is very competitive and there are a lot of good players in it to learn from. So, in a sense it does help you develop, but it's almost as if you hit a plateau at a certain point. I'm not a gambler, never have been, and never will be. Not saying that there is anything bad about gambling, it's just not for me.

I know you weren't necessarily referring to you, I was just commenting on your joining the league to improve part. I think the APA is great for beginners looking to improve, but once you hit a certain point it is not even close to the best league or route to go to try to improve your game. I tell my friends the handicaps are only a # and nothing more. Just because a person is a 6 or a 7 doesn't mean squat on how well a person plays and when I hear the # being thrown out there like it means something I laugh. It is great to move up and improve and get to the top handicap (APA handicap that is), but that is about all it means. I'm a 7 in 8 ball and would get torched by many people who don't play in APA. As for the gambling part, I agree it is not for some and I absolutely respect that. It is just one pressure situation scenario that can help/hinder ones game similar to tournaments. Sorry for getting off task from the OP's thread.

P.S. Plateaus suck don't they?!

So last night my APA team recieved our check for taking first place in the summer session. We were shocked to see that the check was for $225.00. Now keep in mind, we pay six dollars a night. It was a fourteen week session with ten teams. Also this is a bar league so the LO does not pay green fees. This means that the LO took in $4900 dollars for the summer session and for winning first place the LO payed out $225. The numbers are literally laughable. I havent called the LO yet but he will be getting a phone call soon. To me this is basically just stealing everyones money who pays to play in that joke of a league. Has anyone every heard of a payout this bad. And can anyone honestly deffend he APA or the LO? Thank god this is our last session in the APA. We will be moving on to the BCA in January. I have never contributed to an APA bashing thread but i have just had enough.

The guys in St. Louis need their bonuses, just like the Wall Street Bankers!

Why were you "shocked"? Any league I ever played in I always knew from the first night how much was paid back. If it was x amount per ball or x amount per win or point. I always asked if it wasn't clear.

Its just the fact that these LO make A LOT of money for not doing much work.

I think you understate what the LO does, just a bit. First and foremost, they have to put up their own money to purchase the territory rights. Secondly, there is a lot of stuff that has to happen behind the scenes to make it all come together. They don't just throw a few scoresheets out and say "go get'em, boys".

Lastly, they get to deal with every whiny crybaby that ever picked up a cue. No one will ever be happy with them, no matter what. It's kind of thankless, in a way.

I do not begrudge the LO's if they are successful at running their business. if it's that easy, why don't you set up and run your own league, and put ALL the money back in the players hands? Problem solved! What, too much work to do that.........?

It sounds like the LO isn't totally successful where the OP lives, because they have dissatisfied "customers", ones that likely won't be back. That shows a disconnect, or that there isn't any competition for them in that area. Either way, if they don't take care of their players, they will eventually lose them to other leagues or just lose them from dissatisfaction.
