APA on the Corona Virus

But here's the point of the thread:

1) Let's make responsible decisions and take reasonable precautions to protect us all.

2) Financial considerations need to become secondary. No matter what the financial consequences, life is more important than money.

3) We are Americans, dammit. We've been through worse than this, we will be through more than this. Our forefathers had the fortitude to build this country and we will beat it.

In Italy, the folks in their homes are making video tapes at the behest of a film maker. And what they are saying is they wished they would have taken the warnings more seriously. Most folks thought it was hype, and it was no big deal, it was just the flu, blah, blah, blah. And they didn't change a thing. They went to bars and restaurants like it was just the "flu".

In other words, most Italians are saying they wish they could have those crucial 10 days back so they would have taken it seriously helped stopped this transmission that basically closed their country. Their hospitals are so overwhelmed right now, they are choosing who lives and who dies. That's right, they have to make those decisions based on lack of beds and supplies. And if it's worth it to treat some of the elderly who are that sick.

And I bet you believe that Pres Trump told the governors that they were on there own in acquiring respirators. That's what the New York times said. But they conveniently left out most of the conversation. And he never said they are on their own. And bet you believe them. Journalists are the most unethical group on the planet.

Not funny at all. I see it as cause and effect. Those who overreacted are the ones responsible for the shortages now. I'm not in either group. I have what I need for now and trust that suppliers will have some when I need more. In the mean time I shut down league when the officials recommended it and will start again when they say it's ok.

My LO isn't getting paid when we aren't playing. We're down for at least the next two weeks, likely more. This is his business, and he won't be getting any bailout.

I also didn't pay him in advance, so I'm not due and refund, I've only paid for the nights I played.

All pool halls in Utica, Syracuse, Binghamton and at least 1 I know of in Rochester NY have closed VOLUNTARILY. We all did this on our own after the order to stop inside food and alcohol sales. I could be open now with a 50 player cap. Nobody in their right mind would subject the people they love to this outbreak.

Yesterday at 7 pm after closing the door.,I went to a restaurant to pick up food. The mandated closing was 8pm for indoor food and alcohol...the place was mobbed. I was shocked. People with little kids, older adults.

As I drove around today, after doing necessary bank and run to my accountant, I still see all number of businesses still open.... Furniture shopping, buying a car? You could take your kid to the mall to the indoor playground. Jesus Christ people wake up. Stay home, stay safe.

And to top it off, I see adults and their kids running around in shorts and tshirts..... in 35 degree weather. Stupid.

Christ, I haven't stopped wearing long johns yet! Lol

Anyways, sounds like your good.

Having said that, IMO, waiting till someone else says "use commonsense" is more or less a recipe for failure.

It reminds me of people that waits till their check engine light comes on before they do maintenance on their car.

Well, IMO, waiting for someone else to say, "hey, don't have your league to keep disease down"....is no different than waiting on the light to come on.

I'm not saying you don't care. I'm sure you do.

We still need to be calm.

People make more mistakes when upset compared to when they are calm.

My wife is a retired respiratory therapist, she understands and agrees with you 100%.

In the end, the average person has to be "made" to use commonsense. It's not that they don't have it, they just don't use it.

I see it slightly differently.

I think that, in a week or three, it is possible that you're not going to want to go out so much, even for groceries. Those buying now and stocking up have seen what's going on in Europe. And when everyone else tunes in, it's going to be tougher all the way around to get what you need.

Honest question: Why does it matter there is currently not enough testing?

1) If you don't have symptoms -> The hospital doesn't want to test you anyway

2) If you have fever but your symptoms are not bad -> Go to doc, get TamiFlu, stay home, and don't go near anyone (just like the regular flu)

3) If you have fever and can't breath well -> Go to the hospital. You might have Coronavirus. They will test you

Based upon what is happening all over the world, it matters because people are infected and don’t know it and if we don’t flatten out the infection curve our hospitals will be overwhelmed and a lot of people will die unnecessarily.

And, from what I’ve read, Tamilflu will not work on this bad boy.

I agree, Tamiflu does not work against Covid-19.

If some is walking around with fever, that person would not go get a Covid-19 test anyway. So it seems "massive testing" is only needed if you plan to do mandatory testing of a whole city that has had cases.

Well because I know someone who's work partner tested positive because his wife has it. My friend can't get tested because he doesn't have symptoms yet and there is a shortage. So him, his two small kids and wife are quarantined for 14 days. His family, parents and others are afraid because they've been in contact and many of us have been in contact with them. They're concerned they may have spread it to others.

It would be kind of nice for that father to be able to get a test, right?
