APA Rankings

One other thing, my buddy and I were raised to 4's during the first session we played in. The week after that happened we both lost our matches, so our team captain called the LO and had them drop us back down to 3's.

Do men start as 2's in APA 9 ball?

The APA has a simple introductory rule for players of unknown ability. Men start off as s/l 4's and women as s/l 3's. Both receive 2 coaches until a handicap is issued by the League Director. Although it is rare, there are some regions that allow male s/l 2's but in most regions, that s/l is exclusive to women.

In the event that the player's ability is known, the Captain is supposed to play that person at the appropriate rating though this is rarely practiced.

I knew about the generic rule as it applied to 8 ball, but I knew the 9 ball ratings were a little different. It is strange to me that a player could be allowed to play as a 2 when it is clear that they are above that level. You would think that someone would have raised a big stink about it earlier. Oh well, such is life in the APA! I am glad that I now play ACS/BCA. No handicaps to worry about. :D

Very accurately stated.

And it points out some discrepancies with EggMcDoggit's statements.

But, before just jumping to conclusion, and making accusations, we can give him a chance to present all of the information.

That's why it'd be interesting to get the player's name, area, and length of play, if possible. Then simply do the research, and we can all know for sure.

Boy, you guys can sure prevert a thread... I'm kind of new to this forum. So I'll be a little more careful, the next time I ask a question. :)

But wouldn't that be a bit invasive? I mean, this guy has no knowledge whatsoever that a set he played is being discussed here. Research? What possible data would be made available to YOU? Evenso, even if you got a copy of every scoresheet he's ever been on, that still tells you nothing!

I propose that you go there yourself and that the APA pick up the costs of flying you down there and you watch him play for no less than 20 matches. After you've watched 20 matches, take the best ten and then pass judgement. I'll send my proposal to Renee to see if we can get the ball rolling (no pun intended) on this!

Me highstrung? I'm not the one proposing to do a project on an s/l 2! I can't believe you're actually going to give a thought to a person who is ranked as absolutely horrible and who might only be really horrible.

Yeah that was a strong 2. Actually from what my friend told me, several people have complained about his handicap to the td's and think that he should be a 5...don't know why he's still playing as a 2 if people think he's a 5? He plays in the DC area. I just played in the tournament a few weeks ago, so I'd think he's still playing. You're welcome to do your research, but I don't want to get involved in his/apa business...so I'm not going to name names.

Cool! At least this is a much more honest and descriptive post.

A strong 2. Sounds like you're really gonna back that up.

OK... what's the name of the 2, what area does he play in, and do you know for sure whether or not he's still playing?
I'd like to follow up with some research on this 2....

lol in fact, how about everyone in this forum post the names of everyone they know is sandbagging? Don't be afraid to snitch on family members, as this is an anonymous forum. Surely this initiative will lead to the resolution of the sandbagging issue altogether - and a golden age for the apa - in which nobody seeks a competitive advantage.

Seriously, when are you going to put the badge down and play pool?

Forget that... I'm starting a new group, Sandbaggers Anonymous. Hi, my name is Michael and I'm a sandbagger. I've been sandbagging since I started playing pool one and a half years ago. Wow! That felt good to get off my chest. Group hug everyone! Punch and pie will be served after the meeting. :D

Hmmm.... but like was said, there aren't male 2's in the league.

Well, if he's that good, then I should see him in that National Singles Tournament where he can try to snap off $15,000, while playing against skill level 2's and 3's only.

If he's playing like you say, he should be a lock for it.

That won't be difficult to discover at all...

FLICKit, you do realize that won't happen until late April/early May 2006? OH, and remember, don't bother looking for an s/l 2. Male s/l 2's aren't allowed in higher-level play. Renee should get back to us shortly with a budget. I'm right behind you, pal!

Maybe I don't remember correctly and he was a 3?? I'm 99% sure he was a 2, but given that I have a bad memory, I'll call my friend and confirm with him, just to make sure I'm not misrepresenting the facts. I can tell you with 100% certainty that he was a 2 or 3 though, I know for a fact he wasn't a 4 or higher.
