APA rant

We had to drop 2 players to play in states and we won anyway lol... everybody had to win every match. But that was a fluke and I don't think it's fair that teams are penalized for improving and are forced to break up. It can create a really negative experience for the 3's and 4's who end up getting booted.

I'd rather have something like the vnea system where you can have any team you want, as long as you're prepared to suck it up when you give the other team a huge 'spot', point-wise.

One of the things a team has to do is to mark all defensive shoots, both on themselves and their oppenents. Especially the ones who are sandbagging. I marked 35 defensive shots on a 3 who was sandbagging so badly you could see him plan where to miss the shot at. That way the sandbaggers get what they deserve. If everyone did that all the time, the system would be a lot better, not flawless, but better.

Also, between the city championships and the nationals, 2 of our 5's went to 6's, it made life tough, but they had played hard, and worked to improve themselves and they deserved the better rank. It made it tough at the nationals, but we dealt with it. It is part of trying to improve yourself and your team mates.

I think one of the problems with teams from larger cities/pool halls going to Vegas is that many play on 8 footers, but smaller city/pool hall teams play strictly on bar tables. I think practice on a larger table hones your skills. When those teams show up to play on a bar table with big pockets, they play better than their handicap on a larger table, duhhh. Then their handicaps get raised. A 6 on a bar table does not necessarily make a 6 on an 8 or9 footer, IMO.

Good point

I was a SL something I dont remember and I felt like I would beat anyone but a 2 in nineball.

Why? No pushout after the break. I would break and be hooked and then the 2 would make 2-3 balls and miss, Id run out and break and get hooked.

That was my only problem with the rules in APA 9-ball.

To actually miss a shot on purpose [unless I was trying to get laid],would ruin the game for me. Although I've had plenty of reasons to sandbag I just can't do it. It really is all about respect.

ok guys I got a different rant. I just played through a 9-ball session as a SL-9 winning every match easily, won through to the session final and then we had to play in this place called the frontier. I was told by a local that the table had not been covered in at least 15 years, the cloth was white. Every shot that I can play that separates me from lower rated players was wiped out by the table, it was pretty much unplayable. I suggested that I should not play as their highest rated guy was a 5 and it would be tough to catch anybody up when I cant play position but I was played, lost and we lost the match. I know this sounds like sour grapes but the other team freely admitted that the table kept their handicaps down and gave them a huge home field advantage. I was pissed that I had practised for this match was playing very well and then I could not play my game. There should be some standard for this. Sorry for the long post. But it was a bad way to lose

Ray

I have had the same exact experience
The APA league operators don't have to play on tables like that, but it's OK for other teams.

Your post brought up some bad APA memories

bye bye APA

That is about the most ridiculous statement I've seen in a long time.

No one forces any given team to play in any given venue. They CHOOSE to play out of those venues.

You turned "some team uses a crappy table to keep their handicaps down" to "APA league operators are THE DEVIL".

I can see the insinuation, not my intent, but I didn't ask to play in those bars, and I asked the APA operator if he had to play on tables like that and he said "no", it certainly wasn't my choice. Nobody said that the league operators are doing anything wrong, but I haven't played in places like that since I started playing VNEA, and BCA.

I sure hope someone told him about that table and what that team told you. They would be kicked out of our league if something like that happened.

Also, the APA, nationally or locally has nothing to do with the bar re-felting their tables or leveling it. That is up to the bar only. However the APA LO can tell that bar to refelt their table or they will not allow teams to play out of there until they do so. If the LO truly cares about his league than he will place that ultimatum against the bar.

I know it is up to the bar, but if you saw this place, there could be 3 pockets and the table could be up against the wall for all they care. The point I am trying to make is that this is not a pool players bar and it is the team who are out of line by choosing this place to play, not the bar's fault. There is a bar 5 mins away with 3 tables that play perfect. I know because I ran a 4 pack on one of them 45 mins after not being able to run 5 balls in my match. Teams like this kinda make me sick.
