APA Wheelchair Event

Just checking to see if any other posters will be participating in Vegas in two weeks...particularly the wheelchair event. Evidently attendance has been down the last two years with the economy, but just curious to see if anyone is going to challenge me in the wheelchair event :grin:

Ya know , Shorty , I've always wondered ~ do the rules actually require that you be handicapped and confined to a mobility device , or do they simply require that you PLAY from a wheelchair ?


Maybe we can help ya fill out those fields this year ! Some newbie might WALK AWAY with the trophy . . . .

I think this is actually a great question...and I have no idea at all how to answer it. I would assume Miss Renee and the APA may can answer that. I know when I played in the wheelchair tour of the NWPA that some guys actually could stand and walk some, they had partial paralysis but had to play from the wheelchair to include keeping both butt cheeks in the seat during all shots. For me, I didn't even like that rule cause I can stand up on my short legs a little and get a bit more leverage when breaking, but they seemed to not notice me doing that much.

As far as your question, I truly don't know what the rules are for the APA and wheelchair pool players. I just go bang balls around and like the sound of plunking as they fall.

Good luck Shorty! Just for fun years ago we would play from chairs, not barstools. We actually required that players had to tuck their legs under the chair cause some guys were spreading out with butt barely touching chair. Fun but difficult. Do they allow those fancy wheelchairs that hydraulic up? Players would be at an advantage being higher like that. Hey pal let me use your high chair cause you got put out!! Have fun!

I reffed in a world wheel-chair Olympics once....
...had to warn a player from my hometown about doing wheelies in his
opponent's line of vision.:embarrassed2:

I also lost a finals in a big field to a man with a withered bridge arm....
...he used a bridge with the palm up....
The reason I lost was 'cause I was giving a pretty good head start....
.....well, that and he had the courage of 3 men...and he was smarter.

That's what I was kinda wondering as well...the last time I played in it in 08, he crushed a guy in the finals 5-0 in 6 innings...an 8 on the break and two break and runs...I don't want any part of him if he is hitting them THAT strong.
