Oh, fer cryin out MF'g loud. Is Barry slithering again or what? Does anyone have any insight to this? I already booked my hotel there, and hope for a star studded field.

I'd speculate Johnny/ABP is standing up for nothing less than guaranteed, timely payouts and is going public as leverage. Hope he gets it!
 
Sounds like the old say you have a deal then go back and negotiate the deal kind of deal.

Anyone who has dealt with Barry will be familiar with this tactic.

The whole situation reminds me of the parable about the scorpion and the frog. Or Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown.

Well I imagine its the same old story. The APB wants to make sure the $$ is there an that Barry can' touch it without another signer. From the first press release that was all agreed upon I doubt the players would back out of a deal that guaranteed the fund. That only leaved m with the impression that Barry changed his mind for some reason. That's just my thoughts. I will prob talkto JA later and if I get any more info I will pass it on unless someone else has the info already.
 
What kind of assets does the ABP have? I believe in order to do escrow services, you must prove you have assets to back that money up in case anything goes wrong.

I think the term "Escrow" is jut a good description. There are number of details to a normal "Escrow" In this case they are basially just holding the money so it can't be touched without at least another signer. That way all the money from added and entry are there at the end.

Johnny and Charlie stay home.
All the pinoys and SVB will be there again, I'm sure, they are the ones that have to worry about it anyhow, they are the ones collecting the big check. And didn't SVB say on TAR, he will be there he don't care, hes always got paid, lates better then never.

Last year they took the entries then gave them to Barry before the tournament started. Wasn't much of an escrow and lo and behold Shane walked out with the same old story. Doesn't seem to bother him but it sure makes pool look like shit IMO. No clue why they are not involved this year. I have my suspicions that they just do not want the headache but that is speculation. Maybe they will come back and try again.

The ABP deal this year that I have some knowledge of made sense if someone had faith in the ABP. That would be up to each individual to determine on their own. Seems for whatever reason thats off the table now though.

Word I got was that if Barry did sanction with the ABP it was an automatic no go on a WPA sanction. No idea if that played a part in the latest ABP attempt at a deal to fall apart.

Only thing I do know is that if there is not some sort of transparent structure put in place to guarantee the money is all there I will laugh heartily at anyone who complains about getting put on the payment plan. Shane doesnt seem to give a shit, knows how the game works and is willing to take the chance. I don't agree with it but he and all the rest who choose to play are adults and know what they are getting in to.

Eventually I think there will be a year where Barry reaches in the hat for a rabbit and it isnt there.

How much total money was payed out to all the players that played in the OPEN last year? And how much money does it take to run the entire Open? Day to day ? So total money needed for the Open is...........?
