That's pretty much what most reviews are saying. They seem to close up whenever its slow and the mgr on duty wants to. I've heard some reports that JA was seen to be pretty well hammered on his not so frequent appearances. Another case of someone putting their name on a place and then being an absentee owner relying on others to run it. Rarely works.

great pool player and good business person doesn't seem to correlate often. too bad for poolrooms.
any employee that takes any sip of a drink should be fired in any place of business.

.Not completely unexpected, considering he took over what once was one of the very nicest poolrooms in the country, The Pool Room in Marietta, and over a period of time neglected it until he lost it. Doesn’t Rodney Morris also have some investment in this place?

It was in pristine condition several months ago when I last visited. I do go by it coming home on week nights some and see it closed before 11 and I have seen the parking lot packed near 12. I noticed a recent picture showing the cloth about worn out. That is the bad thing about using vendors for tables. Some replace felt every several months and some wait for years. That room if managed right should make Johnny and Rodney a lot of money. They have good food and fair prices on food and pool. Their parking lot says they have a good business going. I once took over a Curtis Mathes franchise television business from my dad that was struggling. I turned it around into a very profitable store. I had a good manager and good employees and after a few really good years I opened a pool room closer to my home and started only coming in a time or two a week at the television store. In two short years it was only breaking even and could no longer give me a salary. That forced me into full time Cue and Cue Lathe Making and pool room owner. I ran the televison store at a slight loss for a couple of years and sold it and the pool room and moved to Missouri to focus full time on the Cues and Cue Lathes. My advice to Johnny and Rodney is manage that place just like you did when you opened it and you guys should do well. Or you might do what I did and allow things to go south while trusting others to keep everything on track without you being there pretty often.

KD and JA had a good run there, over 10yrs. They did become absentee owners and it cost them. Kim also had his eye issues to deal with.
I played regularly at MBC from like 2009 until they closed. Hated to see it go, but clearly it was mismanaged in the later years.
As far as Archers - I went one time months ago - maybe 3-4 months after they opened - and that was all I needed. It is a sports bar with just two 9’ tables and then maybe 4-6 bar boxes. I grab a nine foot table to play on waiting on a friend.
First notice that the table is filthy - the amount of crap under the rail nose was pretty bad — I mean run a damn vacuum once in a while. These were brand new GC”s that should have been kept up.
Second, the ball return was not working properly. I literally laid on the floor to find where they were stuck and had to move them along. Could of fixed it with a zip tie. Here’s the kicker - Rodney was practicing on the other table net to this and JA was standing there. You would think that OWNERS of an establishment watching a CUSTOMER laying on the floor fiddling with the ball return would warrant a response or something. But nope… not a word. And I had to reach under and do this multiple times. But nope - not a care in the world.
So, I vote with my wallet — never will go back there. Frankly I will be surprised if it makes it. But they are in Cartersville, and there are not a lot of options for people who live there that are close. So, ya never know. But clearly they could give a shit about their customers…….

i am basing it on an average size pool room with say 12 tables. in 5000 square feet. with daily pool only income about 300 to 500 a day. other rooms certainly have different metrics.
and not owing a pool room where you have invested your life savings and earn a living of say 100,000 a year working your butt off long hours.
you need to make your most gross off drinks, gaming, product sales, and food.

just curious, how many have you owned/run?
20% is a pretty good guess, most likely less considering food and alcohol sales. In our pool room without alcohol, our pool time $ revenue amounts to less than 10%.

If you’re not willing to put in the hours as the owner or owners, the key is finding a really good manager, who has a passion for, is ambitious and really cares about the place, and rewarding him/her well enough to stay, including $ incentives for meeting certain total sales numbers. Sadly, it’s rather obvious that is not the case here.

I don't know all the particulars why the MBC closed so i'm not going to speculate. They had 10yrs and a guy about went blind so i'm not passing judgement. On JA's new venture its clearly not working.
