All joking aside, all of this pet eating business has been vastly overblown. Has there been a massive influx of Haitian immigrants in Springfield? Absolutely. Has it been challenging to the Springfield community? That's one way to put it. But the pet eating stuff, if it has happened, isn't anything like it's being made out to be in the national media. (Source: I've lived just down the road in Dayton my entire life and know plenty of Springfield residents.)

It makes for a nice distraction from legitimate issues like terrible uninsured drivers causing damage and financial loss, stressing schools that are not prepared to handle a surge in population, particularly one that isn't English speaking, presumably other crime, petty or serious. But let's talk about doing Bob Barkers work, help control the pet population.
