Are you worthless without your playing cue ?

You know the one you play with and really like.

Say you had to play with another cue, are you close to being worthless ?
Unless, of course you spend a lot more time with that cue ?
 
I am.

I tried using my fancy Tad, the hit feels awesome, but I just can't pocket the balls like my trusty ole Schon. Not sure if I should sell it or not...

Hah!
The old Schon has a more playable taper and makes it easier to pocket and stroke ?
Has old micarta ferrule ?

Not worthless, but I have called my wife to bring my cue when I stopped in the pool room and got into a game I didn't expect to be playing. I am not embarrassed to admit it I am much more comfortable with my own cue.
 
I'm close to the same with most cues. For the money, I prefer the familiarity of my own, but I'll use anything playing cheap.
 
If you're in stroke and playing a lot, should be able to play pretty close with anything. When I played every day ( long long time ago ) , I played a lot with a off the wall house cue. When you're hustlin , on the road, or playing in bars, you usually couldn't play with your own cue. My playing cue during thoses years was a 1973 ivory joint JOSS. Big difference between that and a house cue. The more you do it, the better you get playing with a ifferent cue.

When I am in stroke I want my cue even more. When I am playing good I play at a pretty fast pace, I don't even feel the cue. To play like this I need a cue that feels like it is part of me. Playing in bars and when I used to travel on the other hand, I often played with anything. It didn't matter, if just having my own cue was a knock, I was probably stealing anyway.
 
My SHOOTING isn't much different with any other cue really, but I'm only good at playing position with my cue, it makes the Cueball do what I want after the contact, other cues can't make the Cueball do what I expect it
 
I play much better with with one cue. I have many, but there is only one I am truly comfortable with. It's no different than my car. I am far more comfortable driving my car, than my wife's. I think it is normal to have a higher comfort level with something you are totally familiar with.
 
Not at all, I play with just a Players cue & a milk dud. In fact I find that often times I bear down a bit more & play smarter because I don't trust the house cue so much. Because of that lack of trust I tend to spin the ball less & stay pretty much center, draw & follow.

Hmmmmmmmmm, maybe I'm on to something. :scratchhead:
 
I can adapt to different cues pretty quickly. I do prefer one of my own cues overall but do not mind playing with whatever cue is around.

I'm with you. If travelling for work, I just pack a piece of 1500 grit sandpaper, a tip tapper, and a good piece of chalk and then go to work on the local house cue :)

For me it's not so much a different cue per-say, but the fact that most house cues have much more a conical taper and I don't like that at all.

A strange cue with a long pro taper would be easy to quickly adjust to, conical ... forget it. I don't like the feeling of the shaft taper in a closed bridge one bit.
 
Not worthless, but I think having confidence in one's cue is pretty important.
If I'm at a bar or just playing with friends, I don't mind using a house cue, but if I'm playing for the cheese, I gotsta have to my player.
 
Playing a barbox, doesn't matter much. Playing a 9' Diamond, some difference. My normal playing cue has an LD shaft. If I play with a bar cue, I try to stay more to center CB.

Actually, back when there was actual 'hustlin', you would lose all the easy action walking into a strange bar or pool room with a good cue or even a good case! I made that mistake a few times. I walked into the mis-cue lounge in fort lauderdale in 1976 with my cue in its fellini case. After 2 days of no action, the house man said, 'no one here is going to play a guy with a fellini case'! The only action I got was bank pool for $50 a game with Hawaiian Brian, which I didnt like!

I can adjust. Sometimes I will play off the wall just to remind myself it isn't the cue.
