Well, I was watching the TAR match last night and my wife strolled by and caught a glimpse of those ear muffs and she stopped and said "Hey, that's that crazy man, Earl Strickland, right?". Bear in mind that my wife doesn't care one whit about pool or anything pool related and knows nothing about any pool players, except apparently Earl Strickland due to his memorable showing at the prior TAR match vs. SVB on the 5 X 10.

She then proceeded to sit down and watch the match with me. She was rooting for Shane. She did have an interesting insight that is probably true as well. She observed that is must be difficult "playing a crazy man" and that it is just another mental challenge for Shane to overcome.

Now she at least knows two pool players, ha ha ha

note: she does know the voices of Billy I. and Grady because I watched so much of their commentary whilst studying onepocket...they put her to sleep he he he.

But at least she lets me have my pool fun...

Jason Bryan Well I can tell everyone here that sitting in the studio watching Shane and Earl play the first day was a treat, even with Earl's antics, but as day 2 was winding down I started to get real tired of hearing Earl ***** and complain about everything. I was at the studio 2 hrs before the match started and Earl was already there hitting balls so he started talking and kept insisting that nobody here wants to see him win, and i told him he was dead wrong, that most of here would like to see him win, there are couple people here from canada and London who came just to see Earl play. But one can only listen to him so much before it gets old and it's old now. I think I'll pull an Earl move myself and bring my own earmuffs /headphones so I don't have to listen to him cry and wine all day.

I didn't tell the missus, but I'm secretly pulling for the Pearl....

Lol, My wife is the same way. She doesn't know anything about pool but she
knows who Earl Strickland is!

That would some funny shit. Everyone put on ear muffs right before the match starts.

I would love to see Earl's reaction to that one!!!!

:D

Yeah.....Kooks too.

D<~~ getting hungry for some reason.:)

I'm really glad you cleared that up for me... retarded or not, I didn't bridge the gap and realize he meant Kooks. I was baffled as to why Cooks get aroused by earmuffs.

thanks again! (in re-reading what I wrote, it could be taken as being sarcastic. I assure you, I WAS baffled and very glad for the clarification)

So, what I'm hearing is, someone who doesn't even care about or play pool, sat down and watched the match?

No matter how you view it, that's star power!
"THIS GUY IS GOOD FOR THIS SPORT!!!"

Now, if a pool hero with that kind of natural appeal would just appear on the pool scene, this sports marketing dept (LOL), would finally have something to work with!

Yeah, you heard right. She even gave me a play by play that I missed when I had to take an important phone call that lasted for half an hour or so. Apparantly SVB just gave Earl ball in hand on purpose at one point in the match...

Thanks a lot!

Believe me, at some point I'll mention this story on the air in the ACCU-STATS booth. "You've made an indelible impression on me with this one!"

Thanks so much for sharing that! This story actually gives me hope for our sports possible future.
;)
