At the highest level of play, what game is the easiest?

I've seen many people argue that 8 ball seems like a joke at the highest level of play and that 9 ball is a kids game at that level. I've also heard mentions of Bank Pool and 7 ball.

Would audience knowledge of the game have an impact on their perception?

Straight pool for sure. Ironically enough... Its one of the hardest games for the lower level players to be really good at.

define "easiest" ?

run one rack?
(running one rack is meaningless in 14.1)

run out the match with your opponent never leaving his seat?

9-ball on a 10' table.

With all the real estate, there's almost never any significant clustering. Adding a few extra feet doesn't make it much harder for a competent shotmaker to run out completely open tables.

Lol. You've never played on a 10'er have you. Thats not a question btw

The only relevant factor at any of these games is "How tough is your opponent?"

I have. The extra foot makes it harder for me, but I don't think Shaw or Niels or SVB would have much of a problem.

I mean, just watch the Reyes/Strickland 10' match at Steinway. They burn through the open tables because there is so much room to maneuver.

It does get a little tuff, right after when you are running oit ueall.dood like, play shape in the middle of the table.
.

And realizr yoi couldnt reach that ball with 1.4 bridges
..

8ball is by far the easiest to play. I am a rotation player thoughl. Cant stand 8ball, but my winning % in 8ball is much higher than 9ball and 10ball. Just an easy game once you figure out the strategy

A lot of people say straight pool but when you ask them to post a video of themselves running 100 in 14.1 their camera is broken.

Easiest

New guy around here, but I'd have to say nine-ball. It's the easiest to break and the table tells you what you have to do. We could debate pattern and path, but the table tells you where you need to be. There are a lot fewer options in 9-ball, either duck or stay in line.

Just one man's opinion.

I think that at the 'highest level' all games are easy. Pocketing balls is still the same and you still play position for the next shot; the constraints for doing it a certain way is all that changes. Even one pocket is just as easy as eight ball if you have played it enough at the 'highest level'.

I find the "3-ball ghost" on large pockets, to be the easiest game, but thats just me :grin-square:

What's up Bigkat :-)?

From a runlengths metric, I'd say 14.1 is the easiest of the common games, with one pocket as the hardest. For no pockets, 3C runlengthts are pretty short.

Don't confuse that with "can you run a hundred balls," but it's probably too late.
