Attn; Jeff Sparks !

Well the bottom line is: we don't know. Maybe this will be resolved. Maybe it won't. At least SJD deserves the benefit of the doubt, particularly vs an unknown guy, no?

Lou Figueroa

I can't say one way or the other about the car, but from all the posts at OP.org, plenty of people remember Tall Jeff / Jeff Sparks. So far, present debate aside, all have good things to say.

Lou Figueroa

No, it does not. He never gave anyone the benefit of the doubt here or at 1P.org, did he ? Not in life or in death. I know SJD as well as Mr. Sparks. And Mr. Sparks gives SJD the 5 and the breaks in being a fabulous addition to 1P.org, tells good stories, colorful past, writes well, and is a nice as can be. Must be why one is still there and the other is not.

He even apologized to SJD, and he clearly was not poking fun, just told a story, like lots of stories he has told. Heck, Mr. Sparks recalls when he got taken down hard and lost his cash, cue and alligator shoes. So, he said he didn't mean to upset SJD, and was sorry if he took it that way.

So, far, it appears this guy traveled in the thick of things in the gambling world. The names, the places, etc. I have no reason to doubt him. NONE.

I'm talking about on the forums. As you know, people are sometimes different here than in real life :-)

Well, obviously you're not being fair. Just as obviously a 50-year old recollection is suspect, particularly when one of the two primary protagonist in the story remembers it differently. Like I said, bottom line: we don't know.

You've often said how close you were to Freddy and I think that is clouding your judgement. So go ahead and jump up and down and crow (something you apparently like to do with little to no reason) about how SJD air-barreled a car, when actually you have no clue about what really happened.

I'm sure Jeff will be a great addition. Hope he stops in here.

Lou Figueroa

SJD, amazing how some folks are so ready to believe a guy that drops out of the woodwork with a 50 year old recollection. Most certainly the guy beat someone out of a car. That you don't recall losing a car means to me that the guy was or is confused about who he beat all those years ago.

But of course drawing THAT kind of logical conclusion would take a bit of critical thinking. I guess some here prefer to go off half-cocked, but hey, what else is new.

Lou Figueroa

How many guys have you beaten out of a car...then forgot about?

Think about it, genius.

Quick true story:

Maybe like 10 years ago a guy came through town looking to play some 1pocket. He ended up at Harold's, a black room on the east side of St. Louis. He tried to match up with one guy in particular who told him his name was Hook. (Hook is a fine local level player.) They talked about how they played different players they knew and finally, the out-of-town guy, in an attempt to do his due diligence, calls some buddies and he describes Hook -- short, skinny black guy wearing a baseball cap and playing with a SP. They decided to play with Hook getting 9-7.

Hook busts the guy and 40 years from now that guy will be telling stories about he lost to a St. Louis guy named Hook.

Only problem is: they snuck Ike Runnels in on him that night.

This has nothing to with other folks, it has to do with SJD and his attitude. I know u may not have liked some folks that I did, but I treated you fairly based on how u treated me.

Well, if he wants to call us all inbreds from chicago, like he did recently, then I will just go to his new moniker Salavage Junkyard Dick, cause is where that car wound up eventually ;)

There is no common ground for him, and his banning from the site that elected him to the HOF can been seen as proof is in the pudding. Cmon, that should have been awake up call for him, don't u think ?

I still don't dislike the guy, but I'm not going to take crap from him for the next ten years and say thank you.

I know both, have played and gambled with both.
Good guys to play with, no BS.
Have won and lost Playing Dick, extended credit, was always paid. He did the same for me.
I met Jeff when he got out of the navy, known him since.
I really believe it's a case of mistaken Identity
I believe they were around Houston at different times. It's hard to recall after 45/50 years.
Rodney Stephens.
P.S. I'm doubtful any of the posters knew or played or saw either.playing.

lol, you guys up in Chicago aren't all inbred?!

(I kid, I kid.)

BTW, SJD was elected to the HOF by the *members* of the site and many of us still feel he should not have been banned. Some of us have even dared to publicly voice that opinion. Banning him is, ultimately, the decision of *one* guy, so it is proof of nothing except that.

I also think a case of mistaken identity is the most logical explanation. Won't stop the haters though.

SJD

PS..By the way, I stopped in that old rough, tough cowboy bar, (the action joint) just a few years ago on my way to a funeral in Wichita !..Its still there.. I sit down, and order a drink, and I see about 6 couples on the dance floor...ALL MEN, no women..The old joint is now a 'gay' bar !..(not that theres anything wrong with that :o)

Did you put a quarter in the jukebox while y'all were dancing or did they have house music? :)

And the same logic applies... maybe some folks wanted to forget a bad "incident", and has since passed it out of his memory. Some tend to think if a player beat a guy out of a car, he'd remember that the rest of his life.

Kind of sux when someone you like is on the other side of a negative story, huh ? Your retainer fee on this story is gonna be HUGE, enjoy the extra cash and take your lovely wife out for a nice dinner, enjoy yourselves ;)

LMAO! For those that may not know, Lou was trained and paid to do this for the majority (if not all) of his life.

He was a Public Affairs Officer...that is what they DO!

Have you ever watched TV news (any level, any channel) and seen a government PAO give a briefing of some controversial sort and you come away scratching your head and saying "this person is either the biggest kiss ass, dumb ass, or liar I've ever seen?" And then the other people watching it or mentioning it say the same thing?

Enough said. I'm sure some of the things they say are true, but it may take Snowden to rat them out because they make up stories so well.

Well he's not very good at it. He must have missed the part where Jeff said he played SJD another time(before the car air barrel) at LeCue in Houston:

Sorry about using you in a story there Dick, but I'm sticking with it. The first time we met was at LeCue in Houston and I was pretty green then, you would have won that day had not Craig Stevens come over in the middle of our nine ball match and say something like, " I'm just coming over here to watch San Jose Dick rob this kid." I don't know why Craig did that really unless of course he didn't like you for some reason or wanted to play you himself? Anyway, I quit and you got into an argument with Craig about getting knocked and I remember very distinctly what Craig said, he said, "You gotta be a player to get knocked!"
Now I don't know where the conversation went from there, I left, grateful to have my bankroll.
Does that ring a bell for you, that was 1966. The next time I saw you, we were in Amirillo, and you got broke playing nine ball on a bar table and you lost your car, I believe it was a Pontiac Bonneville, not sure though, which you drove off in as I recall. The year was 1968. And yeah, I'm still gullible, I take a man at his word, it's the way I was brought up here in Texas.
No hard feelings I hope Dick, there's no shame in losing, I've been beat many times, but I never forgot who did it to me!!!

Mr. Eaiye, thank you so much for enlightening us all !.. It must be nice to be so well versed on EVERY subject known to man !..We are so lucky, you choose to spend "the majority (if not all) your life", banging away on a keyboard, on a pool forum, read by about .00000000000000001% of the english speaking world !..By the way, it figures a fellow know-it-all snitch/traitor like Snowden, would be one of your heroes !..His 'oral diarrhea', may yet cause world war III. (I'm almost convinced, that you, Snowden, Bunter, and RJ, were quadruplets, joined at the hips at birth) :p

PS..By the way, I'm sure YOU must have been at least a battle-tested, 'five star general', when you served in the military !

Well of course all Chicagoans are not inbred, just the democrats.

Yes, he was banned by one guy at 1P.org because he could not conduct himself in the manner allowed by the rules, even after numerous warnings.

With the insults and negative stuff he has spewed here, he caught a break he has not been banned from here,,,,,many guys have been booted for a lot less, a lot less.

Don't u ever get tired being his official mouthpiece ?? The pay sucks, and the hours are long ;)

Bunter, thats only about the 12th time you have posted Jeff's comments on here ! (a bit repetitious are we?)..Craig Stevens and I, played each other, almost on sight, for most of our lives, but we were always good friends, and NEVER, ever had one hard word !..Anyone who knew us, can attest to that !..Neither of us would ever dream of knocking the other !
..In fact I still, to this day, have a set of his golf clubs, that I loaned him money on, when he got broke in Ft. Worth many years ago !..

I'm sorry to burst your bubble Bunter, but Jeff's recall, about any confrontation between Steven's and I, only further convinces me, that he is also mistaken about ever playing me, in Amarillo !..I realize, your only function on this forum, seems to be to try and discredit anything I say. (much like RJ, and Mr. Eyiae)

Maybe if you took the time to read some differing opinions, with an open mind..you would give up your hopeless task ?...But, then you would have no reason to post anything at all, would you ?..Or maybe you should try a completely new subject, like maybe saying Jersey Red, or Alfie Taylor and I, were 'bitter enemie's' (two of my best friends in pool)...That would make about as much sense...So carry on !

PS..I'm convinced, You know less about me, than anyone else on this forum !.. So just stay in your little dark place !..You are fast becoming the 'fly' in everyone's soup ! :sorry:
