AUGUST 29 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2024TURNING STONE CLASSIC XXXIX 9-BALL OPENTURNING STONE RESORT CASINO

I’ve played and watched a hell of a lot of pool. I’ve played in beer joints, pool rooms, college student union rooms, and so on and so on. there is such a distinction from the road players of the 60’s and 70’s and today’s professional. Road players had charisma and personality as well as catchy nicknames. Todays players that you see in pro tournaments are rather blase and Shaw is a prime example. For whatever reason he is about the most expressionless player I’ve ever watched. You can say what you will about Earl but he brought people to the sport with a solid game along with his fits and antics. Pool needs more Earl’s.
Milk drinkers these days🥛

I'm a heart beat from 70yrs old. I respect the way these guys play now. Killer safeties, killer hits. Tiny pockets. I find it a bit boring. Give me 1990. Gun shooters. Screw the jump cue. Luther Lassiter early, Davenport, Varner, Siegel etc. didn't need a knap sack full of tools and gadgets. That stuff was fun to watch. Run outs from anywhere, 3 rail kicks with paste. Those boys had personality. 1 cue. If I have a choice between watching Albin and another Euro robot and mowing the lawn, I'm mowing. Just me.

Sossei and Fracasso-Verner are not going to Texas. They are playing at Turning Stone right now, alongside about 20 700+ Fargo players.

Dechaine went to Texas.
I doubt that the Main player is welcome at Turning Stone….I recall him hoping Mike Zuglan would die in a grease fire.

wrong thread? jump cues are not allowed, gotta jump with a full cue

You are right about that with Mr. Zuglan's tourneys. No short sticks. Just thinking in general. One to many whiskeys.

There are a bunch of locals that I play with at various events in the area that are (were) playing in this. None are playing any longer. In past years, it has been similar outcomes. Many are people that play in a few or many of the stops on the Joss tour, and this is part of that tour.
I know that I've seen Upstate Al's stream and it had a match or two that looked more like league play than a high level tournament, but these were people that decided to see for themselves what the next level is like. They have my respect for stepping up. One day I'll play too, and I'm already accepting that the easy shots I miss, and the bad decisions I make, will make me look bad, but I'll learn from it.
There are a few regional players that don't regularly participate in the Joss tour that have signed up. YES,they are good league players, and they are dipping their toes into the tour. KUDOS to them for stepping up! I don't know your level of play, but it is always good for the game to support one another despite differences in ability.
Turning Stone for PRO's is about the Ca$h !
Turning Stone for regional amateurs is about self-Improvement as measured against the PRO's.
There are MANY in this tour that are very strong.
That said: I hope Danny Hewitt gets it done.
A Big thumbs up for Mike Zuglan who runs a quality tourney, and upstate Al for the great video! You guys are the BEST!!

EDIT: I just hit the brackets and Danny lost to Mret Vergera (?) 9-7 Mret also beat Sossei so i guess he's pretty strong. Danny got Johnny Archer
9-5

Wow, Mika beat inform Baoanan to set up hot seat match with Moritz
Shaw is out KO by giantkiller Alnar

Never heard of Alnar before- must be a very good player to knock out Shaw so decisively though. Didn't see the match, perhaps Shaw played poorly

player from cyprus, the turkish-speaking part. he has beaten fedor, filler (x2) and now shaw within 4 months.

he has been around a while, in eurotours etc but never done much of note until this year

must be a very strong player to have beaten all of those players

Does anyone know if this in on Youtube? I can't find it there. I did find it on FB, but personally prefer watching on YT due to the rewind button. Thanks.

Al has always had an issue with YouTube. The matches will be posted on the AzBTV channel in the future, but he won't stream to YouTube live.
He likes to control everything. If you disagree with hi he cuts you off of the s#itty stream. Al is an amateur when it comes to production and his commentary stinks. This tournament has a bunch of wannabe no-names. I can go to the Poison Tour in Texas and see better pool.

The north side of Cyprus is occupied by the Turkish for the last 45-50 years. It’s very nice there. Both the north and the south. They are very different from each other. Lots of casino’s on the Turkish half.

There are 3 guys over 800
I gotta beat 3 guys 700 to 711 tomorrow to get cash.
You should come rob it.

This is a big regional tournament...one any corner of the country would love to have. He runs this tournament with military precision....40th event in January.
Missing some regular top talent, but there are 30 plus solid shortstops, 20 plus low level pros and 5 or so killers...

Exactly. I bet a ton of people would love to have as well a ran tournament as Zuglan does on their side of the country.

And maybe it's just me, but I enjoy watching the top shortstops in the area try their hands at a tournament like this, as there aren't many for them to go and play.
