Is this kid the Tiger Woods of pool or what!!

Go to the brackets of the Billiard Factory World Summit of Pool and look at what he has been able to do. I see notice the other kid Landon Shuffet (sp) he seems to get all the attention, but this young man seems to have quite a bit more game, it also seems that he is in just about every pro tournament that comes down the pipe.
How fun would it be to have this little guy not only beat you, but do it handily? You got to love it.
Way to go sir, keep stroking player!

Austin is a nice young man. Only 13 and he also has a nice record of wins in some pretty good tournaments that are smaller. I believe he has beat Landon almost every time they have played, although at the rate Landon is improving I don't know how long that will last.

Deadon cant agree with you more landon is improving at a very fast rate, but either way its looking good for pool in the usa in years to come with these kids stepping up. keep it up guys

I watched him in Reno too. He plays great, but I'm not a big fan of his sportsmanship. Before you argue that he is only 13 and it is okay for him to behave the way he does, take a look at Landon and the way he conducts himself, even after losing. I think that is why Landon gets (and deserves) more attention.

Wouldn't argue for a second. I know Austin well. He needs some sportsmanship/behavior lessons for sure, big time, while its understandable because of his age, its no excuse and he has been lectured on it more than once. Landon, on the other hand, is quite the young gentleman, agreed.

Austin is improving just as fast.

Landon and I tip our caps to Austin. 3 straight wins in that field. That's a tremendous feat. Good job, Austin!

Landon and Austin have not played in almost 2 years. Austin won 2 sets to Landon's one at the 2005 Nationals. They won 17 games each.

Hey, I'm not going to make any judgement about whether it's right or wrong for Austin to act that way, but I'll just throw out a Vince Lombardi quote:

"Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."

That's one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Sportsmanship is very important, win or lose.

Landon vs Austin

The only time I see these great kids is down at Louisville. I like Landon's game better. He seems more methodical and deliberate in his approach to a shot and his strategy to a game. Austin has great shooting skills, maybe a bit rushed sometimes because it looks so natural to him. In the long run I think Landon might end up being a better overall player than a lot of kids his age. But here in St. Louis we have Justin Bergmann, he plays fast and loose and is beating everyone. So Austin can have the same potential in the long run. Its nice to see this next generation progressing. Maybe before Landon hits retirement age there will be a profitable Pro tour. ???

Justin doesn't play fast. Not slow. But not fast. And he is deliberate, not loose.

So do you think we should teach these "kids" to be bad losers?

Noooooooo.. I am saying don't teach these kids "Hey, don't worry, it's just a game. Better luck next time!"

IMHO, there's too much namby-pamby talk about how all the kids are winners, as long as they compete. Guess what? They're NOT all winners. Some are losers. Nutchin' wrong with the kids realizing this. Then, they can decide on their own whether they want to be a winner or not.. :D :D :D :D

There is definitely hope for American Pool. All three of these young men can play. Justin has already arrived as a top player. He can compete with anyone right now. Austin has some great natural talent. He needs to work on his composure though. And Landon is doing all the right things to become a top player. And he plays with maturity beyond his years.

No telling how good these three will become. Shane is a good role model that I hope they all emulate.

Agreed, as well. I was in Reno last December and watched part of his match against Mike Banks. His behavior was very unsportsmanlike, especially when Mike was getting some lucky rolls.

I'm sure much of this can be attributed to his age, but it's still no excuse for what he was doing (i.e. clapping very sarcastically when Mike would luck in a ball).

That being said, Austin is extremely talented and for his age is eons ahead of most of us. But when you look historically at the younger so-called proteges (in pool and other avenues), there tends to be this behavioral pattern, not always though, just some. Often because having this kind of talent/skill at such an early age is difficult for them to process with maturity and can lead to a skewed vision of things.

I hope that he can overcome this obstacle in his demeanor as he could be a great asset for the sport.
