how is this case still here? of course it would be sold if it didnt have owners name on it....but this is still a piece of history......bump for a awesome case mickey

This is a nice J.EF Q Case case. That is the BRAND. These cases were made by Nora Van Horn - the NVH stamp under the J. EF logo.

www.jbcases.com/jflowers.html or www.thepalmercollector.com for more information.

I feel like I did now make a mistake naming our tribute line "J.Flowers". I don't get why people who have been around this business for a long time will use my brand "J.Flowers" instead of just "Flowers" or "Jay Flowers" or correctly "J.EF Q Case".

My intention was to preserve the legacy of a case pioneer who had been largely forgotten over those that came after him. It was not to have my brand supplant the original. Why is that people can't go to my website and read the history of and see how I came to pick J.Flowers as a brand?

Well anyway what's done is done on that score.

Yes, this is a very nice case and artfully done with the large basketweave carving. I have this one on my list as something to try someday.

If anyone cares the name can be covered over fairly easily by means of getting another piece of leather done to glue over it. Once properly glued it's not coming off.

It's a Balabushka case..not an Adams Balabushka case

Oh please...your intentions were to make money by using the name Flowers in your brand. Please don't insult our intelligence.

Don't get me wrong, I think some of your cases are very well made and the interiors are second to none...but to think most people would or should think of you(JB cases) when reading the words J. Flowers is absurd imo....

Btw, did Mr. Flowers pass away in 2003 or 2005? There seems to be some conflicting info...

Really?

Want to bet TEN THOUSAND that hardly anyone knows about Jay Flowers?

Lets go to ten pool rooms and see what brands people know about.

We could sell as many or more of these case with ANY BRAND on them. I chose "J.Flowers" for a specific reason and that reason was to honor and protect the name of a case pioneer before it was taken by someone else.

Michael Huang is my friend. He is also my competitor. I have not seen one of you get on his ass about using "Omega" for his cues. Omega was/is a brand of cues made by David Paul Kersonbrock/DPK.

I, on the contrary, deliberately choose a brand name that honors a forgotten case maker and I use that to shine a light on that case maker's legacy and the fact that his products inspired many who came after him. And this is somehow a crime?

Boy I bet you'd be really pissed if I named my pool exhibition company Livingston Productions. Or maybe if I named my tips Mingnaud Tips?

I already said that I think I made a mistake using the brand J.Flowers for the very reason that has happened in this thread and a few others. I never intended for the J.Flowers branded cases to be mistaken for J.EF cases or vice versa.

However I had Jay's blessing to do something along these lines so I don't feel bad about it. I just need to do more to educate people on what is what.

The intention was and is to bring more recognition to Jay Flowers and the line he sold. In fact it's through Chris Tate's efforts and partly through my own that we have learned from Nora Van Horn's son and grandson that SHE was the maker of the cases. This fact would probably have never come to light without the extra attention paid to Jay Flowers.

Jay died in 2005. I have corrected the typo on my website, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Vinnie, Good Luck with the sale. I would like to own this case but my wife has put the hammer down on buying/trading for more cases. She says "build don't buy". :-)

Now come on John...to think nobody has heard of Jay Flowers cases is crazy..now if you said Nora Van Horn...I would agree. You chose the word "Flowers" cause lots of case buyers know a "Flowers" case was a fine custom handmade case...and I know quality and protection is what you feel your cases represent, as it should be.

Anyways....we both agree this is a fantastic Jay Flowers case and that's what this threads about.

Good Luck with your sale Terry:D

John, As you already know it can't be built , You duplicated it but a REAL, TRUE Flowers case was made in Tampa, Florida years ago! It's like Building a Gus Szamboti Cue, that is not going to happen. The closest you will find is a Barry Szamboti. You made a great case the Buffalo Instroke'cowboy" I have 2 -2x4's and a older 2x2 yep you did good. I still own them however I keep my Gus in a Engles 1x2 Tiger Shark only 2 made and my Barry is in a Fully Tooled Ivory footed Engles 2 or 3 of them! The cues are RARE so I felt they should be in a RARE case! I keep my R14 1982 model in a REAL 1x2 J Flowers and S6+S9 1981 Schons in my REAL J Flowers 2x4 the cues are from the same time frame as the cases! I keep my 2 Dale Perry's in one of the Instrokes they are from that time frame! The other 2x4 Instroke holds the other 5 Gus shafts for storage. The 2x2 Instroke has some extra Tascarella shafts for storage as well. Don't take this the wrong way I have a Jack Justis 2x4 that is a Flowers knock off as well.It is used for storage as well, old tube style. I would JUMP on this BEAUTY but I'm saving for my 2nd Barry Szamboti with stitched joint. I will never catch the Mars Man but I'm giving it my best shot! Good Luck on this Classic Rare FLOWERS from Tampa where Pops and Smorg was from! I miss both of them! Ron

Listen,

I have been in this business 20 years. I will bet you $10,000 that we can go to ten pool rooms and pick ten random players who OWN their own cues and case and ask them to tell us who Jay Flowers was and not even 3 of 10 will know.

I know what I am talking about. Outside of AZ Billiards the POOL WORLD barely knows Instroke or Justis much less Jay Flowers.

Jeeze why do people think that they know MORE than a person (me) who has traveled around the USA more times than I can count, been to more events as a vendor than just about anyone, been around the world several times, and been to around 25 or so big Vegas tournaments.

Do you think it's all POSSIBLE that I may have gathered a tiny bit of knowledge about the cue case market during that time?

You people are so quick to jump to conclusions as if you have the whole world figured out. You get this IDEA in your heads and by God you stick to it no matter what with no consideration for the perspective of the person on the other side, no consideration of their experience, no clue about their motivations. But what hell, accusations are free right? No consequences to call someone a thief and a liar on the internet, right?

It's all words on a keyboard so it's not any big deal right?

I DID NOT choose to use the brand J.Flowers in order to make money on the Flowers name. If anyone wants to freeze up $10,000 I will bet that I can bring out another case with exactly the same style and tooling and the same price and sell just as many or more with ZERO mention of Jay Flowers.

BET IT and I will have these cases sold through another company that is completely unrelated to me. We will check the sales after one year and if Sterling Gaming has sold MORE "J.Flowers" branded cases than the other company has sold "x-brand" then you win the money.

Anyone care to make that bet? Since you all know so much more about the cue case market than me let's bet it.

Vinnie, free bump for you! Hope someone puts this case in their collection.

Actually I didn't set out to duplicate the cases made by Nora Van Horn and sold by Jay Flowers. I set out to make a case that has a similar look but with all of my construction methods and that's what I did. The line was designed as a tribute to the style that Nora designed and Jay sold and that is exactly how it is marketed.

To duplicate these cases is easy to do. Unlike cue making case making is very easy in comparison. The only things that stop a person from making exact replicas of any case are the availability if certain stamps and dyes which may not be made any more. In our shop I have a laser engraver so I can duplicate any stamp. As for the dyes I am sure we could get pretty close with enough experimenting.

I can't buy this case. My wife has said NO more cases until we have finished buying equipment. Otherwise I would have already made an offer on it.

I do have one of Jay FLower's personal cases though, Smorg traded me for it before he left us. I miss him too.

I don't get it? Your wife won't let you buy a $650 case but she will let you bet $10,000 on a stupid bet? I bet $10,000 you haven't OK'd it with her yet!LOL Good luck on the nice case Troy! Ron

LOL - she knows that no one will bet against me when it comes to these things. When I offer to bet these things it's rhetorical because it's a LOCK. No one has any chance in the world to beat me on this type of bet.

So in that sense I can bet the whole farm because no one is going to beat me.

:-)

How dare you argue or accuse John of something like that, you had better be careful he will be watching you!!!!!!!:D

Don't sweat it John is always trying to play the high roller, however, when push comes to shove he will find a hundred ways to back out it like he always does!!!:D

Here is a classic example where John offered to play another forum member then backed out!!

http://www.youtube.com/user/hogspeed?feature=mhw4#p/u

My favorite comments that John made are and I quote "I not going to play you because you are acting like an asshole toward me" That is some funny shit!!!!:D
