AZ 8 rated - Round Robin at Sweet Tooth Billiards

Jerry,

I don't even know where to begin on this. I have a million and one things to say about this post, but I'll only share a few.

It is obvious that you are a very opinionated person (from reading your posts and from what other people have told me), and that, in and of itself, is fine. Where I have a problem is you shooting off your mouth and making the above comment. I have been an open opponent of the rating system here in Arizona for some time so I can only assume that I am one of the "stupid people that recommend getting rid of the ratings all together".

If you think that I am that "stupid", then let me ask you these questions. How did I get to where I am today? Do you know me on a personal level? Do you know how hard I've worked in my life to get to where I am (personally or professionally)? Do you know what I do for a living? Do you know anything about me other that what you've seen online? If not, then how do you know me to be a person that is "stupid" or "not stupid" What evidence have I given you?

In the past 4 or 5 years, I have probably played in a total of 10 handicapped tournaments. I don't enjoy them. And I do think the rating system hurts Arizona. I look at other states and cities that hold frequent tournaments with open fields (New York, Florida, Texas, California, etc...) and their talent pool is just as strong as anyone elses, if not stronger.

But this is somewhat besides the point of my post. My point is that I can tell you what my opinion is and not insult you or put you down for having a different opinion than mine. If you've noticed I've completely stopped posting on AZPoolScene.com's forum for this very reason. In your online persona, you treat people poorly and often come across harsh, tactless, and extremely opinionated. It's too bad because when Ron ran that website, I enjoyed going there to read the news.

I apologize to the original poster of this thread and to all those who are a part of this thread. I usually don't hijack threads, but felt compelled to defend myself from Stuckart's comments.

Ray Robles

I apologized for being over the top with the "stupid" comments, but I'll do it again. The comments I made have nothing to do with you as a person. It has nothing to do with your overall intelligence. I made these comments to try and wake some people up about the ratings. All the top players complain that we should get rid of them, they are hurting the game, etc. etc. I hear it 10 - 15 times a week. But if you talk to Ron or any of the rooms that have counted on rated tournaments to keep themselves in business you'd understand. And I know "YOU" personally can understand the need and haven't been as loud and boasterous as the rest.

I'm sorry that you took the comments personally. I wasn't attacking any one persons intelligence. I've answered the same people over and over and over about the reason for the Ratings, and why it is a 1000 times better than not having them. But these people don't get it, they continue to complain and complain and bash and bash all the hard work that all the members volunteer to better the sport. It's like a kick in the nuts for us that do whatever we can to grow the sport we all love. So, I say once again, I'm sorry that I came off rash, as I was hoping that this new method would actually make people think about others first besides themselves, in regards to the ratings. Personally, If something was put in place and has worked for years and years to grow something like attendance in pool tournaments, regardless if I disagreed or not, I would not over and over bash it every chance I can get.

I'm really sorry that you stopped reading all the great news on azpoolscene. I have covered 300% more stories than the site had in the past, mostly because I wasn't running a pool room as Ron was, and that took priority. I've been covering ALL rooms across the state, ALL League systems, etc. as many people that were not Alexander's players stayed away from the site before. Numbers have increased, tournament coverage has been much more. And with the nickels I'm able to scrap together from the site, I've put it back into advertising the site, promoting tournaments, meeting with room owners across the state in making it the 1 stop place for pool news in Arizona.

Sorry to Brady for taking this thread the wrong direction. I know the idea of doing a Round Robin started with a conversation between Jason and I weeks ago. I really wanted to do something fun that wasn't just a tournament where some people would go 2 & out. I also thought it was be great to bring exposure to Sweet Tooth and all the hard work that has gone into that place. I over reacted to the posts bashing ratings in the thread that was about 8 Rated players playing a round robin.

It was hard enough to put things together for something that I couldn't even participate in. So I'm passing the buck to anyone of you that would like to take it over. And if you feel like writing the story of the tournament up and get some pictures I'll gladly post them on azpoolscene.

If anyone wants to put reasons on paper to move to an ABC format instead, please do. I'd like to see some evidence the opposite of what I've seen in numerous other states. I'm not being cocky here, I'm serious.

dude dont quit over something so petty as an argument. if jerry is out i am definately. this was suppose to be a fun event to get everyone together not divide us. how about this i will make the round robin invitational and jerry and lenny will be invited and people who want to argue or be negative in general will be excluded. you know what f the rr we will play our match with mike and chuck and all is better sound good?

i would like to commend

bval and stuckart for trying to do something good for pool. our hearts are in the right place... just the not right time in guess.

I was hoping that Jerry would play and Lenny too. Bar Box is fine with me since I have never played on a Diamond Bar Table. We can even go back to 50 a man or what ever you guys want to do. I was looking forward to playing and meeting everyone. It would be great if Brady and Tim would play also. I would like to do it at Sweet Tooth's if we can. I guess let me know when and where and I will be there.
Thanks:thumbup:

Ok, guys please let me know what you all think of this and if it means anything to you at all. I have spoken about this before but now it is just something we want to do.
Whoever wins playes Archer on Tuesday night, feb 10th race to 11 9 ball. We can get it live streamed etc and try and make a night of it. I will need the pool room or someone to pay Johnny's airfare which it $220.
We will hold a very small pool school the next day. I have an agreement with certain players that I get a free exhibition/challenge match once per year from the pros. I would really like to see this happen and when I told Johnny he thought it is a great idea and sounds like fun to him too. The issue is can we get the local support to have the #1 Player in the USA and player of the decade here for this?? Please tell me if I am wasting my time on this, oh, we can also do a raffle to play a single rack against JA and add some raffle prizes etc.

I love this idea.... but lets make it interesting. I saw Justin Bergman playing someone who looked to be about an 8... Justin gave him the last 5 and the breaks for $500. (race to 9 I think)

A good game for the winner of the round robin would need about the same... say for $200 or $300? Archer would still be the favorite, but it would be more interesting!

Oh yeah, JA would give weight in the deal. The problem is it is already costing to come out here for him. I am not sure on playing for any $4 but the weight just to do it is fine. He wants to do this and thinks it is fun but he is doing me a favor i don't want him to even come close to losing $$ while he is here.

Glad to see there is going to be or is a room there again. Always enjoyed the action since it was just down the road ---- Will be stopping by next time I am in Phoenix for some fishing.
