I respect Jason's game on the big tables. In my best game, barbox 8-ball, I think I won 7 - 2. It was over pretty much from the start.
I know we started this entire Round Robin idea as 8 players, everyone plays everyone, top 2 play for finals. But I know we have more 8's that would probably like to play. You guys pick the tables and location. If you want big tables, I'd say Bullshooters is your best bet. Race to 8 or 9, 9-ball.
Justin, to answer your ratings questions. The 3 games that are discussed for Rating Persons are 8-ball, 9-ball or 10-ball. Whichever game you play best on the best table for you is what you are rated at. Ratings are used for weekly/monthly tournaments around the state. You can't have different ratings for different games. The number of man hours to control this for the 1000's of players is too much to ask.
As far as the ABC verse the AZ Ratings, the more separation the better. Putting everyone in 3 categories instead of 9 seems to be stepping backwards. It would even be better if we were able to track stats for every match people play. Like John Casey does for his league at Bullshooters. If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it. They score things like you mentioned Lenny. Safes played, misses, balls made, etc. And it gives you a score. The problem in doing stat's like this is the same with every rating situation. People will stop playing at places that might move their rating up so they can keep making some money at other places that don't track everything.
And if you guys are playing on Big Tables, can I get in? I played Jason 7 ahead 10-ball on big tables and even though I was ahead the entire match, I never was able to close it on those stupid Metro Big Tables. I think I got to the hill 4 times and would dry break and watch Jason run 2 or 3 racks on me. The tables were breaking horrible with neither of us able to make a ball for the entire 5 1/2 hours. I'm a good 8 in 9ball on big tables. Let me know. Lenny can play too as his 9-ball game is 8 speed.
If it is big tables, then Sweet Tooth is most likely out as they only have 3. If we have more players than 8 then definitely need to do Bullshooters.
And if we are going to do this, let's make it $100 each to be worth it. Not too pricey to scare people off, but enough to make it more fun and worth it for those that feel they are going to win it.
I think that you are right Carlos plus an 8 in Phoenix supposedly translates to a 9 in Tucson, dont understand it.back2good1 said:I think one thing that is over looked is different rooms have different ideas of ratings... An 8 at Kolby's will beat most 9's from Metro.

My second question is, if neither of you were able to make a ball on the break for 5 1/2 hours then how was Jason running 2-3 racks 4 times??
justabanger said:I think there are quite a few 8's in Kolby's that play like 9's. Maybe they are hiding out in there but that Sunday 8's and under tourney is no walk in the park.
bfdlad said:Kolby's Sunday 8's is tough action. I can't se why an 8 can't run 3 racks. I thought thats what an 8 was supposed to be capable of.
I can not remember the last time I ran 1 rack, let alone 3 racks. I must be a 7 or a 6 then.
that play like 9s in metro. they just dont usually play in tournys. play ken, aaron, kalen, or mackay some. all really sporty 8s.back2good1 said:I think one thing that is over looked is different rooms have different ideas of ratings... An 8 at Kolby's will beat most 9's from Metro.
like he said jerry would dry break, the very few times i made balls on the break came at the best timing as i would then break and run then break dry not leave a shot for stuckart and would run out again when i got to table i did this a few times. and we were playin 10 ball. in 9 ball i will not break dry and put a few small packages for you guys hahajustabanger said:My first question is, if Jason was running 2-3 racks on you 4 different times then why is he still and 8???

i can leave in less time. i had a guy at metro ,that is an 8, break and run 3 racks of bar table 8 ball on me. i will omit his name since i haven't spoke to him, but that's the kind of 8's i play around. if you think metro's talent is weak stop in sometime around 5 in the afternoon. i will go as far as backing a few of em. see you guys aroundbfdlad said:Kolby's Sunday 8's is tough action. Please tell me where there is a room where the 8 rated players are not able to do that as I need a little $$ right now and I can leave in an hour.

Moving from a system with 9 different ratings to a system with only 3 (ABC) would be worse than all the stupid people that recommend getting rid of ratings all together. I have no understanding of people that keep bagging on the rating system......
BigCat said:Jerry,
I don't even know where to begin on this. I have a million and one things to say about this post, but I'll only share a few.
It is obvious that you are a very opinionated person (from reading your posts and from what other people have told me), and that, in and of itself, is fine. Where I have a problem is you shooting off your mouth and making the above comment. I have been an open opponent of the rating system here in Arizona for some time so I can only assume that I am one of the "stupid people that recommend getting rid of the ratings all together".
If you think that I am that "stupid", then let me ask you these questions. How did I get to where I am today? Do you know me on a personal level? Do you know how hard I've worked in my life to get to where I am (personally or professionally)? Do you know what I do for a living? Do you know anything about me other that what you've seen online? If not, then how do you know me to be a person that is "stupid" or "not stupid" What evidence have I given you?
In the past 4 or 5 years, I have probably played in a total of 10 handicapped tournaments. I don't enjoy them. And I do think the rating system hurts Arizona. I look at other states and cities that hold frequent tournaments with open fields (New York, Florida, Texas, California, etc...) and their talent pool is just as strong as anyone elses, if not stronger.
But this is somewhat besides the point of my post. My point is that I can tell you what my opinion is and not insult you or put you down for having a different opinion than mine. If you've noticed I've completely stopped posting on AZPoolScene.com's forum for this very reason. In your online persona, you treat people poorly and often come across harsh, tactless, and extremely opinionated. It's too bad because when Ron ran that website, I enjoyed going there to read the news.
I apologize to the original poster of this thread and to all those who are a part of this thread. I usually don't hijack threads, but felt compelled to defend myself from Stuckart's comments.
