Az Get Together

Great Idea

Is there a date and a site confirmed or is it all just speculation at this point ?

Personally I think it would make more sense to have it in the middle of the US, like Tulsa that has already been suggested. I dont like the idea of having more than one event though. It would be neat to kind of "take over" magoo's or shooters for the weekend and fill it with the 1st annual AZ members only trney.
There are so many of us now that have cameras and laptops that we could stream it and provide photos or updates for everyone that couldnt make it.

Why is it that Jay always comes up with these great ideas? ( Helfert that is)

Is there anyway we could plan it in the same town and time as a larger event? Maybe give a couple of months and lets gin.

I think most people have a pretty full schedule at the larger pool events and making time for an AZB tournament could be difficult. That's why we came up with the 4 regional events, not scheduled to be held at one of the larger events. Then bring the top 4 players together at the DCC AZB Room for a 4 player round robin format championship! It wont take up much time and it's still centrally located in the US.

Again, I'm offering to run a tournament in the St. Louis/Metro East area and would like to see who would be interested based on the format/fees/payout previously mentioned!

Thanks,
Zim

Just a thought

Maybe some qualifier type events could be tied into the regional tours that happen around the country (not volunteering the TDs services for free).

This might be a way to get AZer's locally to compete and then later there can be a tourney for the winners, at DCC or wherever.

I'm in TX and i'm only good enough to donate in the Fast Eddies tour but i'd be more then willing to go out and play in an AZ tourney just to meet some of the others who post here. Maybe have the winners from the different regions represent the local regional tours in a final tournament.

That's basically what I suggested... 4 regional tours during the year and the top player from each plays at the DCC AZB room. We could even take the top 2 and have 8 players at the DCC!

Just thought I'd bring this back to the front page! There seems to be a lot of interest in this. Could we make this a STICKY?

If I hold a tournament in the St. Louis/Metro East area in October (dates TBD), who would be interested in playing?

Format is "89"!
Best of 7 alternating games, 8 ball and 9 ball on winners side and best of 5 on losers side. First game is 8 ball, 2nd game is 9 ball and continue to rotate until someone wins 4 games! However, if it's a 3-3 tie, the 7th game is determined by a coin flip. Winner of coin flip chooses to 1) break and opponent picks game or 2) the game and opponent gets to break. (This format would be reduced from 7w/5l to 5w/3l if more than 32 players, just to keep it to a one day event)
Both 8-Ball & 9-Ball is call pocket (basic BCA rules apply)

Entry Fee
$50.00 Entry Fee with fees coming out of that ($5 greens fees, $5 TD fees & $5 DCC AZB Room added money) If no other tournaments are scheduled and the DCC AZB Room "Top 4" doesn't happen, I'll send all the participants $5 fee and the winners $50 DCC entry fee back)

Payout
Tournament payout to top 25% of field
Calcutta (player auction) payout 1 of every 16 entrants

Example Payout:
32 players x $35 entry= $1,120
32 players x $15 average calcutta= $480

1st- $450 (plus 60% of calcutta, $290)= $740- $50 DCC Entry Fee= $690
2nd-$275 (plus 40% of calcutta, $190)= $465
3rd- $150
4th- $75
5/6th-$50 each ($100)
7/8th-$35 each ($70)

Any takers?

Absolutely!!! Once the players have registered, they will be allowed to stay at the Cement Inn! It's located in the parking lot of the pool room TBA. You can stay in the comforts of your own vehicle during the tournament weekend. The pool room will provide free use of their restrooms, lounge area and cable tv at no charge; food and drinks at the lounge bar are additional fees.

I think it's a great idea. A Jay Helfert/ John S. match up in round one would be cool:grin: . Johnnyt
