The AZB-1P private room is for forum members to meet up in person, talk, learn, and shoot pool. There are quite a few members wanting to pay for their friends that are going with them that aren't on the forums. I can appreciate you wanting your friend to be able to partake but IMO, it's not fair to the other members. For every friend that comes along, that's one more set a forum member will have to sit and wait on. Then when it's the friends turn at the table, a forum member is having to shoot pool with a stranger instead of someone they "know" from the forums.

IMO, next yr should have tougher guidelines...Anyone wanting player privileges should have a join date no later than Oct or Nov of 2007. Anyone else have an opinion on this either way???

We've been discussing this room for a year. As the time drew near, a post was made in the main forum and then a sticky was posted in the DCC forum. These posts contained cost, mailing address, and a deadline of "Mid Dec" (in one thread I even stated Dec 15th) along with other general info about the room. I've gotten anywhere from 15 to 20 emails/Pm's asking me how much money, and where do they send it to. It's Dec 15th and I've gotten 3 of these today.

The room has to be paid for in advance and after dealing with the raffle for approx 7 months, and then collecting the money for the room, I would've liked to have had this done so that I could focus on Christmas. I've been nice and accommodating to everyone about this up until now.... that's it.

In the future, folks please try reading the posts that pertain to what you're interested in, esp if it's the DCC room or a raffle.

Checks mailed for playing privileges need to be postmarked by tomorrow 12/16. Anything after that will be returned.

Timberly,
I hadn't thought of it this way - you make an extremely good point. I agree, and vote to restrict playing privileges to members from this point onwards (I think we can cut some slack for players already paid - who knows, they may become good members in the future). Really this room SHOULD be for members to play with each other.

Tims,

I can't make DCC but wanted to say thanks for your efforts. It's a thankless job (and the pay sux) but worth the effort.

I don't agree. There are plenty of people who read or lurk who should be able to be involved. This isn't a club.

SM,
Certainly lurkers are ALWAYS welcome to be involved. All they need to do is get a screen name.

Also I would point out that this "AZB room" deal IS pretty much like a club. We have told the DCC organizers that the room will be a private room, with the tables to be used only by members and pro's. Sounds a lot like a club to me.

Anyway, I hope to see you again in January; it should be fun.

I don't know if this was directed at me because of my initial post or not. I haven't noticed anyone complaining about playing so I can only assume that this was directed at me.

My post was not intended to be me "crying". It was to let people know the frustration they can cause when they choose not to read the info provided for them.

It was also to suggest that playing priviledges should be reserved for AZB-1P forum members only. In order to participate on the forums you have to be a member... there is no guest posting. IMO, to participate (play pool) in the private room you should also be a member. It could easily get out of hand if we didn't restrict this... people could start bringing 2 & 3 friends and paying $25 ea for the 9 days as opposed to paying table time. It could take away from members being able to interact and shoot against each other and it's something that could also be taken advantage of.

I'm sorry that you feel the way that you do. You are correct in one sense... for the folks that never post, or rarely post, it's not as sociable of an event as it is for the people that participate on here more often. I've met lurkers in the past that are very nice people and because they've read the forum, they feel they know me. The problem lies in the fact that I do not know them. :(

But to put a deadline on getting a username is silly. I think if we have a spouse/significant other, they should be allowed to pay an entry fee if they would like to play.

I heard you give Efren the 8... what do the rest of us mortals get?

A perfect opportunity to make a new friend then :)

Please get paypal going next year. I think you would get alot more timely payments if you added that payment method. thanks and I will see you all in the AZB room.

I'm just absolutely devastated that you're not
going to send your check in ( a week late).
Somehow, someway, we'll carry on without
you. But losing you IS an enormous loss to
the room.

I would have to go back and look for the original thread but it was announced many, many months ago that paypal wouldn't be accepted. Considering we weren't on time constraints as we are now, it shouldn't have been a problem. Even the laziest of people can get a check written out in full with multiple months notice. ;)

Marissa, I have made friends with some of these folks that have come up and introduced themselves but have never posted... we talk everytime we're at the same event. However, in a social setting like the private room they're more apt to feel left out because not many (if any) will know them.

Everyone of course has different opinions on this but because this is a private room for AZB-1P members, I think playing priviledges should be limited to forum members... no guest posting on the forums, no guest playing in the private room. As for setting a deadline for membership.... if we didn't, then people would do as they're doing now.... signing up weeks/days before the event which again leaves this open to be taken advantage of.

I think that Timberly was very polite and to the point in her post. The AZ room seems like a club to me? I did not take it as whining either, just stating the frustrations that she has encountered. Which she has every right to do.. IMHO

The deadline for sending the money in has been up for quite some time, more than ample time to get payment in. And it has even been extended.

Timberly, thanks for taking on the project of organizing the room and raffle. I know that you are not looking for praise but I will throw some reps your way any way.

Hope to meet lot's of new AZ'ers and 1P'ers this year.

Peace, JBK

Excellent ! In that case a good time will be had by all ... all that Tims lets in that is :D

If I were to attend from a long distance away it would be much better to know going in that everyone in the room was an AZ member ... depending on the flight down I might even remember a few screen names and the insults I've hurled at them ... maybe it's a good thing I won't be there

Dave, unfortunately not in this posse either, it must have been an oversight or a missed check box :o

I hear you, Dave. The way I've run my mouth
on the NPF, I better be looking over my shoulder
while I'm there.

You're correct, I was in no way looking for praise. I simply wanted to bring some things to people's attention.

The whole time I was holding the raffle I would get PM's and emails asking me questions that were answered in the thread about the raffle that was linked in my signature. I found it annoying at times but I always obliged and never said anything. Same thing with the player contributions. Here we are, a week away from Christmas and I'm still getting the questions...when the money should already be in the mail. I finally spoke up and said something.

I just want people to read the posts pertaining to these types of things and to please follow the rules set forth by the organizers. I also saw the possibility of a problem where the room could be taken advantage of and I shared that thought and asked what others thought. Everything has pros and cons... we just need to figure out which ideas have more pros and less cons. ;)

I appreciate your support and I'm looking forward to seeing you at Derby.

Timberly,
I think most readers will take it that way.

Remember, it is nice to have input from the members; but in the end, the organizers have to make the final decisions. As OHB said last year, "anyone that doesn't like it can organize the room next year." I think things will go well (unless breakup shows his face....well, or any other part of his anatomy).
