AZB Cue of the Year - Should We Do it Again?

I have had very few submissions for the AZB Cue of the Year... should we continue for this year or just forget about it?

There is a sticky at the top of the page with the rules and for pictures of the cues.

Hi,

Yes we should. The main reason (I think) for the lack of submissions is the extra
rules for this year. AZB cuemaker has to email pics of 1 cue to you vs. AZ member just posting pics
in a thread of the cue they feel is the one.
Cuemakers like Haley, Tonkin and Scianella are not (active) members on AZ yet are very likely candidates.
Also last year the thread was started 1 month earlier.

With that, I will also say I can't remember a new cue this year that REALLY knocked my socks of.
My favorite is most likely this Haley.

Just a sugestion. Make 3 catergories. 1. Under $2000. 2.$2,001-$6,000. 3.$6,001 and up. I think this will make things easier.

This will be challenging...the value is based on bought new from cue maker? Dealer Price? Second or third hand transaction price? Think there'll be arguments..

I would personally go with categories like:
1) Merry Widows/Plain Janes/Sneakies (fancy ringwork allowed)
2) Only Beautiful Wood, no inlays allowed.
3) Full blown fancy!

I like the one category. It is interesting to me to see if traditional design gets more votes than new school design.

Yes......I am sure there will be plenty of entries..... With only 2 pics it is hard to show off a cue..... I think you old system was better where people could post many pic on Az and we could see them before we vote.....It is hard to get a cue nailed from only 2 pics.......just saying.......maybe your new rules are not working......

I'm all for it. Thanks for doing this Jamie.....that's really a cool thing to do, to pull all this together for everyone.

One thing about this year.....it seems like overall there has been less of an amount of big, impressive cues delivered and subsequently posted to AZ this year. Or is it just me? I suspect there's quite a bit more cues that would have been in the mix, but people have just stopped posting them here. Too much bs on here lately. :frown:

Yes, let's keep this going. This cue won't win any awards, but it should be nice to see an old school cue, rather than the most inlays and segmented handles. An old school tribute to Frank Paradise, with white joint collars, Titlist color points, and plain butt sleeve with bumperless plate. It was completed by Jerry Rauenzahn in the Summer of 2012. The design goes back to an era when "Access," "Parent," and "Network" were nouns rather than verbs, and a deal was done on a handshake rather than a team of lawyers. I hope to see some more cues like this.
