AZB Room Highlights

For those AZB'ers foolish enough to miss the DCC; just a note on some of the highlights of the week in the AZB room.

We had 2 giveaway tournaments; where members had free entry to win cash prizes - free pizza on Friday along with the tournament. The top 3 in each event won enough cash to at least cover their room donation.

Grady Mathews donated a box of Limbsaver's for the room members. He also coached a lucky member in a match of one-pocket, and refereed the grudge match.

Willie Jopling made multiple appearances; demonstrating trick shots, and playing "scratch pool" challenges with the members.

Buddy Hall made multiple appearances. He played a little, hung out a little, and did an interview with a magazine where he thought his way through a rack of 9-ball set up on our table - now THAT was interesting to observe.

Shawn Putnam and Dan Louie made multiple appearances, playing LOTS of challenges with the members.

Scott Lee and Jerry Briesath both offered their expertise to the room members on numerous occasions; and both gave open clinics to the members.

Greg Sullivan offered at least 2 group tours to the Diamond manufacturing facility.

Jeanette Lee did a photo shoot in the room, and played challenges (yes, for free) against all of the room members that were present.

There was round-the-clock pool played on the TWO tables in the room. Equipment was VERY tough, and served as a great warm-up area for all of the members that were competing in the various events.

A BIG, BIG, BIG round of thanks from the organizers to the pro's and instructors donating time to the room.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of events; but all I can say to those members who did not participate this year - YOU REALLY MISSED IT!!!

WBM, I wouldn't say I was foolish for missing the DCC. Definitely ignorant! To be honest, it's now been 6 months since I started playing pool again & been an AZ member for 3 of those. If it wasn't for this site I'd know nothing about the DCC, sometimes I wish I hadn't heard about it at all! I've been reading everyone's posts & watching the videos & all I can say is I wish I'd been able to go.

I think all of you who made the AZ room possible deserve all the praise you get. Fair play to you guys! I really do hope I'll be able to attend next year, although I'm not sure I can handle so much fun for so long!

One question though. What the heck are Limbsavers?

Chilli,
Limbsaver's are shock absorbing rubber bumpers for your cue. I was somewhat skeptical about their benefit; but when I attached one to my Predator cue, I definitely felt a difference in hit (small difference) - I like it.

Sorry for causing controversy when Diana Hoppe stormed in, upset about AZBers not allowing random people into the room.

I told her "Look, unless you're on the 'COOL LIST' - we're not allowing anyone in!"

"Oh, so now there's a cool list?"

"Of course there's a cool list, how else would you handle it?"

Well, I didn't know she was serious - but she was. After I hung out in her little room for an hour or so, I found that she's a cool chick! :D

Spider,
Yes, we forgot to acknowledge your efforts to throw gasoline on the fire. Truly an inspired effort. I was VERY impressed (though worried about your safety).

Willie, thanks for the answer. I honestly had no idea what they were! Part of me was hoping it was some kind of miracle cure for people who suffer with aching limbs & tendonitis like me!

Ah well, there is still hope. I heard about this guy who's an expert on natural cures for these things.........

One thing I forgot to add.

I'm very pleased to see Timberley could shoot some pool. After reading about her injury I know how I would've felt with the DCC coming up & facing the possibility of attending but not being able to play.

Timberley, I know you would've had a great time anyway but I'm glad you could shoot some! Sounds to me like you put a lot of effort & time into this event so I'm glad you could enjoy it. You deserve it.

All the best.

Ade.

I'm glad her room was across the hall from the AZ room. She has the "coolest" photos of all the players anywhere. And she is always upbeat and full of energy. Diana is a big plus for any pool tournament she attends. I believe her photos can be found on the AZ home page.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Timberly is one cool chick. Instead of carrying a heavy pool cue she has a beer cooler with wheels an handle. Now thats what I call using your head.
the best thing was she would pass them out. Free beer is a highlight to me. Thanks to everyone for all the hard work. Thanks Willie for the one-pocket. I just enjoyed it all an everyone got along like we were all best of friends. Since I am retired I wish it had lasted till spring. When spring comes I will be fishin no pool till frost for me. I'm going to Music City Open
this weekend for a couple of days. Ain't life grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pinocchio

I remember being drunk when I met Pinocchio. Then a few minutes later in the AZ room I was talking to this guy and told him that I just met Pinocchio. He said, "Yeah, that's me". LOL. :D

Look me up in Nashville Pinocchio. I'll knock some around with you.

Hal

I'll be there an I'm a banger. Job's has that nice ice cold draft. Now thats your real beer, terrific chilidogs an a few ruffels thrown in. Real poolroom food.

Hal,
Your story once again proves the value of the nametags (use was a lot more prevalent this year). We'll ignore the value of moderation of alcohol intake because that is just not practical at DCC.

I think he was wearing his nametag, but I wasn't focusing too well.

Pinocchio, I won't be there until Saturday night. I gotta work Friday night.

Thank you so much for your concern and kind words. I was able to "play", if you can call it that. I had to use a claw bridge which isn't exactly ideal for those of us that actually know a little bit about pool and try to play well. Better to be able to hit balls some way instead of not at all. ;)

Pinocchio, it was a pleasure meeting you. You were very kind to me all week (now I know it's just cause he wanted beer. :p ). LOL, I could've made quite a bit of money after 4AM with that cooler.... I always gave them away instead of selling them.

It kinda gives you a warm feeling inside doesn't it? Oh wait....that was pee.

I definitely went too early this year. It seemed
like every time I was in there, my son & I were
the only ones drinking. Josh doesn't get many
opportunities to drink. That Sat. afternoon I
noticed him getting the deer in a headlight
look and got him out of there.
Of course I'm the one who introduced him
to Marissa as a well known porn star.

LOL, It wouldn't matter which part of the week you were there. From begining to end, I was pretty much the only one drinking when I went in there too. Once in awhile, someone else would have a beer in their hand but not often. Then again, more times than not, when I left, someone had a beer in their hand cause I would give them one. :)

I missed you this year. Last year we watched
the big Reyes, Williebetmore match.

Yeah, I was working the InsidePOOL booth a little more this year than last yr. I missed a few people this yr. :( I did get to meet some new folks this yr.

Next yr we'll meet up and share a beer. ;)

Cheers!

I'll have to see if I can make it next year! I definitely had a great time last year! Did you guys happen to see my bald-headed friend named Dan (Wichita Dan)?
