I think that although there are ten thousand members, there are only several hundred that are fairly active. I am certain that there are far more lurkers.

But how that translates into how many are willing to and will donate to something like this is nebulous.

Even if just half of them contribute $10 or more, that would be $50,000 plus.....surely enough to start a tournament....and perhaps even pay the director and organizer for his time..........

Seems there are TENS of thousands of league players...(APA, BCA, USSPPA?)
If somehow you were able to solicit $5-10 from them (for the benefit of professional pool), what a tournament THAT would be....

Heck, seems like you could even have the $5-10 go toward the admission to the tournament, if they wanted to show up.......for those who feel like they have to have some return on their money.......

We could have Mike setup a Chip In for people to raise the money,it could be on the main page people who come could read what it was for and contribute via Paypal.I honestly think this would be a great idea and even if we raised 10K we might get another 10-15K in sponsors and have a $25,000 added event and get alot of pros to come.

You can count me in too, maybe even for more of a donation... Maybe a new thread should be started for more exposure...

I'm in if it takes off, but I don't think there are enough on here willing to donate. It's hard enough for the annual AZBilliards US Open fund (has that thread started yet?), which costs considerably less.

im in but

im in for 10,,,,not saying this will happen but just like watching the TAR matches.....not many people pay.....

It's a long shot at best, but sometimes someone sees something like this and comes up with a great idea. Or some rich gentlemen come up with a million or two to get it going:rolleyes: Johnnyt

count me in for $10.00 or even $20.00 for my azbilliard pro card.

How about if *you* organize it and I pay *your* 1st year's 'card fee'? I will pay mine too.

Who would want to be the Administrator of this...and why? There are already a multitude of threads on here that sing the old:
$1500 entry fee
$2000 added
$3500 total available

$2000 paid out.

Whoever does the work deserves to get paid and there is more work than showing up day-of, but peop still complain...

Pro Pool Tournament

Hi All,

Although you have a great idea, the $50,000 is just the tip of the money iceburg. Advertising, hall rental, pool tables, select pro player comp hotel rooms, air fares, and appearance fees, tournament help, and all of the other expenses that go with running a top-knotch pro tournament will cost a lot of upfront money.

In my case, running an event here in Toledo, Ohio, cost $100,000 each year. We ran it for five years and never made any money. At best, it was a break even event...at worst, we could have lost our homes.

Just thought you should know.

i'm in

its amazing ,how may member read the fourms everyday ( you know who you are) and only a few have posted a reply. come on people show some interest in our sport. if not us, who will. we keep on waiting for someone else to do the work.
step up and show some support!!!!! this could happen. if we all did come together on this, sponcers would be jumping through the hoop to get on board.

It would probably help if this idea was on the main page. Do a poll of number of people that would support it.

Also, I would open it up to the pros, but I would not pay there way, or give appearance fees. They will come on their own for $50,000. I would also make it an open event and hold qualifiers. If we are donating the money, why not have a shot to play.

I'd certainly like to hear AZHousePro's comments on this.

He is aware of this thread. He has been ill and just finally getting up long enough to take care of a little business. Color is coming back in his cheeks.:o The only comment that I got was "that's interesting".
Give him time. He's got a lot to catch up on.

If the first small tournament started from AZ Billiards it would be only right to hold it in AZ IMO. Johnnyt

He is a good guy, or you a good gal for censoring his reply!, for not replying, "HOW MANY EFFING TIMES IS THIS GOING TO COME UP AND HOW THE EFF DO I KEEP GETTING NOMINATED TO RUN IT?"!!!!

This is a pool family and some members of the family are go getters and some are thinkers. We all come here to look, listen and learn. I will be one of the doer's that promote a qualifier and send the winners to the main event. If it is deemed that I have more involvment in the main, then so be it. I will step up.

This is about all of us, look around and see how much pool is being played around the world. We just had two great players win the worlds. Now is the time to make this happen, people. Lurkers, show yourselves and your ideas.

I don't know how to make paypal work, but someone here does. Set up an account and have the donations sent there in an escrow fund. Put the money in a 6 month cd and let it grow while we plan this.

2010 is the year for the 1st annual tournament. Pick a month and lets get this party started. Get off your asses and on your feet.

Rack 'em
