azbilliard pro tour

I love the idea of a yearly AzB event, and I think there is a lot we could do with it. (Video streaming, instructional clinics with the pros, AzB only mini tourneys, etc, etc)

I am certain that once the ball got rolling, we could get companies within the industry to add some additional sponsorship.

It is just getting the ball rolling that is the hard part. We look at the numbers and think that it would only take half of 10,000 users to donate $5 to raise $25,000. But that is thinking way to big.

Times are tough right now and a large portion of the population is suffering financially at the moment. I think a more realistic goal would be maybe 500 people donating $5 each.

Now that is not to say that the idea is a bad one. Even $2500 from forums members would be a good start. Add some sponsorship from within the industry and maybe get a location to come with some added money in order to have the event there, and this could happen.

It would be a LOT of work, but if it was able to turn into something good for the sport then it would be worth the time. Let me think about this some more and bounce it off of a couple people to see what they think.

is 5 dollars really asking to much ? i've lost that much in someones couch just by sitting down. i'm in for 10.00 just give me a gold star by my user name to let others know i support our sport.

I think if you can do $5, you can do $10. Lets get 500 to chip and start the inaugural tourney. I'll give a $100 if you get 500 to chip $10, and I'm sure others would match.
 
Why not put the idea on the main page so more people see it. Look for good places to hold the event also. A central area seems the most reasonable. Also, why not offer the location to some of the more respected room owners on AZ and see what they are willing to do.

If we have a poll to judge how many people will help out financially, that may be a good place to start. $5 is not a lot to ask even those of us that are having a tough time. I would imagine that some would give much more also.
 
Why not wait for Mike H. to get back to us on this. If it's a go, then the first thing needed is a plan followed closely by the money. Johnnyt

Mike would need to put one of those little Icons on his web page" DONATE MONEY TO AZBILLIARDS PRO TOUR" with Paypal as the medium. Then we could see how far this idea would go.

The lurkers could even donate and I bet some would contribute with just a mention every now and then. It has to be quick and painless and without repercussions for it to be effective.

I also like the idea Fast Lenny had with recruiting the league players. Maybe we should design a flyer and print them on a local basis then deliver them to the local league operator.

I'll typeset the flyer, someone else needs to create the words.....Interested locals could take the PDF file to Kinkos and have as many copies printed as needed to fill the envelopes of all the league players in their respective cities.

You can count me in. I would like to see it as a travel tournament start with 3 to 5 places a year to hold it and see how it goes from there. Count me in also, I am not able to get here much so if someone could email me if it happens i would be grateful. Thanks, Doug

People here in Richmond would show up to play in it. Hell if i drove all the way to Carolina to play in one tournament that cost me a tour card..and was the last damn tour stop for the season so i gained nothing but the chance to play that day..i would gladly drop 25 to 50 for azbilliards...and to be honest what i payed that day was more than 50 bucks. I would be nice to see three tour stops..one on the west coast...one in the central part of the country and one on the east coast.. I would say make it a central location for each one so that everyone could try and get there. Who knows..before ya know it you will be having az tournament in every capital of the state. 50 stops for a tour...wow
 
if this idea goes anywhere, i also volunteer to do the flyers, some of you may remember the Tiger Best of the West tournament, i did those flyers...also you can count on my $5 if there's a tournament within reasonable distance to me :D

You can count me in for 10-20. Even if I can't make it to the inaugural tournament, I'll still donate the money for the chance to get this thing rolling.

Fair enough Mike. I ran this idea thru a couple of pool room owners in the Bay area and they love the idea. So if there is any type of qualifier in northern cal there is plenty of rooms interested on hosting it.
I am sure that Jay can host one in southern cal as well ;)
