B Player vs. Pro speed

I'm at work, so I couldn't suffer through the entire thing, but I made it to the 22min mark. What I think is..

1. This better be their B/C game, because the only A side I'm seeing is some of their safety attempts. Though a lot are failing by a small margin, they've got the right idea.

2. '...and it don't stop.' He must've had this match in mind when he put on that shirt, because at times I felt like it would never end.

3. When I visit my brother down that way, I know where to go for an easy 'A' game.. one where I can bring my B game. Never thought I'd look forward to playing an A from Cali.

There's gotta be some kinda catch to this. Were they playing all night long and just tired? Are these ratings only from the local college? Can't be their average game.. I wouldn't believe it if you told me either of those guys are an A if they play like that regularly. I'd say 6/6 in APA, give or take a point.

I recommend you skip right to the end, for one of the finest concession shots you'll ever see. 'A' level strop-off as well - I'm not sure he even shook hands, did he?

For really cheap stakes like the OP threw out, there is NO way I'm playing any of the top players except EVEN.

I've never had the bankroll to try and play a big set with one of them, but I have played a few 100 dollar sets.

Bustamante came thru Memphis in the mid 90's when I was spending 50 hours a week hitting balls somewhere, and still maintained a full-time job. I knew exactly who he was,and asked him to play, and added that I wasn't going to waste his time by haggling for a spot.

He said the cheapest set he would play was 100 for a race to 13,and I paid the time.

I played as good as I possibly could have,he played so-so for him,and I lost both sets 13-7.

I played Reed Pierce maybe a month after he won the U.S. Open in '95,and played same races to 13 for 100,only getting the 7 ball.

We played 6 sets, and came out even. Reed played his usual speed, which was at it's absolute peak, and I probably played 2 balls better than usual.

We got to talking afterwards, and he said that even though we came out even, that if I didn't play the same speed I did that night on a daily basis, that eventually the 7 wouldn't have been enough weight.

He added that if we had been betting 1000 a set or more, that the size of the bet could have changed the outcome also, making him even more of a prohibitive favorite.

As far as a player throwing out one of these huge spots like the 5,7,and the break or something like that, until someone comes along that offers me a game like that,I won't believe I can lose until it happens.

Sure, there are people that can probably cover a game like that with me,but if anyone offers me that kind of spot on equipment I'm comfortable on,they better bring a couple days worth of lunch ;). Tommy D.

even for those that can give up "the nuts" and outrun them

If you're playing Bustemante and Reid Pierce even and getting close the 5/7 might be a tough bargain, even for those that can give up "the nuts" and outrun them. ;) The table is such a huge factor in those type games.
