That's a real photo and the year was 1996 (April). Hopkins won (15K), beating Matlock in the finals (Earl was third). I know everyone in this photo, so if there's any you miss I will help you out. Didn't anyone recognize Stevie Moore or "Richie From the Bronx" Ambrose? And yes that is Grady in the second row. Bakersfield Bobby is there too!

I kinda thought that too, but I figured if Jam didn't pick up on it then it must be someone else.

You know, it is funny you should ask that, because I thought he looked a lot like Keith when I first say it. In fact, Keith's brother Mark plays pool a little, and I have never met him. I thought it might be him.

Keith is out on the porch smoking a cigarette right now at the time of this writing. I am going to ask him to see if he can name all the people when he comes inside. Stand by....:p

I saw Ambrose, infact I saw him about a year ago in Vegas-perhaps a littler longer. I always liked him, he is a trip. He has a good craps hustle on the tourists in Vegas. We used to hang out at the Shoe(Horseshoe casino) in downtown vegas in the earily 90's often. I'd see him at his "Spot" at the craps table almost everytime I went there, we went to eat the $2 steak together lots of times. I played $1 black jack, beat them steady for years and never got bounced out. then in 2004 when my mom was sick i started going down town to play single deck 21, the Shoe had just closed down and I had to play at other joints, i was barred from them all with in 6 weeks. you could gamble at the Shoe. Sorry for rambling; back to Richie:

What ever he made playing craps that day with the tourists he would go blow at the Shoe that night. "I was 2 rolls away from black action" he would say 3 times in a row real fast if he was on a run playing dice, meaning he was about to color up from green($25) chips to ($100) black chips. Sometimes he would be in Black action, didnt matter he would press until he went broke, he loves the rush. "I started in red action ($5) chips, and in 10 minutes I was in black action", he had a million lines, he pitched the tourists and they loved his stich, he is so good at it. Man he can lay it down good at the dice table. "Black Action, green action" etc I love that language and how he talks. Was always stand up with me. we never played pool or talked about it, craps is his bag. infact the last time i saw him a year or so ago he had on a Tommy Bahama shirt with big red dice on it, he is still at it.

He did come into Mary K. room Cuetopia once in a while to play back then, he played good but I never saw him in action, he played great. I always like to watch him play.

those were good times, now we have face book and memories of fun times, in 20 years what are we gonna talk about the "good old days online"??? Thanks Jay for what you did. You should get the lifetime achievement award (if you havent already) you have done so much for pool. I was thinking of that while you were running the Fatboy event this year, if Jay hadnt done what he did, who would have?

best

I was there too. A couple friends and I came down from Bakersfield to watch "Bakersfield Bobby" Hernandez play a little pool. After that Bobby startd to frequent The Corner Pocket again on the weekends.
