I am in an unusual situation and I just want some input from the masses to help steer me. I used to be a strong league player and I always played with a Joss cue with 314 shaft. In 2009 I put my cue down and left the pool life. Well, I'm back. I have to find my stroke again. I have to learn to play while wearing glasses and a whole host of other adjustments. I want to try a new cue and since I'm not used to playing with my Joss I figured that now was as good a time as any. I know nothing about Revo or Carbon Fiber except what I read and there isnt anywhere near me that I could go try one. All comments will be appreciated.

I believe Seyberts has a return policy if memory serves me right. They have all the carbon fiber shafts for sale there.

The Revo will be stiffer and have less deflection than your 314. Personally I like the 12.4mm over the 12.9mm. If you think you may have issues sighting with an all black shaft, you may want to try the Cuetec Cynergy as it has a 1/4" white ferrule. Unless you are buying a whole cue and want something to fit on hour Joss butt, you will need to buy the Cuetec or becue at the moment as Revo only comes in uni-loc or radial pin.

FYI- the demand for the CF shafts and cues are still high that if you decide you don't like it you should have no issues selling and breaking even.

Welcome back to the game. It is so like the hotel California. Carbon fiber is all the rage now. I switched cues with a strong player out of Denver the other day, I shot a few shots with his Revo and he shot with my low deflection sneaky. I did not see much difference in the way they played. When it was time to trade back he was a little reluctant to give up my cue:wink:. Good luck with the adjustments, and the new eyes.

Welcome back and stick with the Joss. Just my .02.

You brain knows that Joss with the 214 even after 9 years trust me.

I tried to play with OB shafts for the last 3 years and I am back to the original JD Cue shaft that I started with when I had started playing pool again after a 30 year lay off. I can do things with that maple shaft that I can't so with any of my OB Shafts.

But I tried a friends Predator 12.4 shaft with a G2 soft tip and I can do any thing with it I want. It took me about 10 shots to get used to the feel. I can curve and masse the ball with it with else.

You already have a low deflection shaft with the 314 so start out with it,

I sure would like to try a Cuetec CF shaft with a 13 inch pivot point. I think that would match my old brain much better than the Predator with an 18 inch pivot point. And the Cuetec has a 12.5 tip diameter witch is my favorite.

Eyeglass frames are a pain in the butt for pool. I bought a pair of Dennis Taylor snooker glasses and highly recommend. Multiple UK websites carry them, send them your prescription. Took about a month.

I look goofy with or without these glasses, so that wasn't an issue.

Will do on the glasses. I just went and tried contacts but they just aren't for me.

Your speed will be back in 3 weeks of constant play.

A new cue won't help or hurt it.

A new cue will be fancy and pretty though, and may be a good conversation starter so you can make new friends in the pool hall. I say go for a carbon shaft!

YMMV:)

For pool specific glasses check out:

I was his first pool customer about 12 years ago, and have been buying regular glasses from him for 30 years. He can make you a pool pair of glasses and understands all the nuances for them. He can also make them for you remotely if you don't want to travel to him (his shop is in PA, 30 min from the Expo if you ever go there).

Shotcaller, Howdy;

Pretty much in the same boat. Was away for 9-10 years. You'll be surprised how
quickly it all falls back into place. Just doing some stroke drills I found to be the most
helpful at first (only as strong as the foundation), then some shot making drills to get
used to seeing things through the 'windows' you're looking through now. You'll be
pleasantly suprised how quickly it all falls back into place, like riding a bicycle.

I wear glasses and have not found it necessary to go to the specialty specs ... yet. I
have a very wide field of view and can see the frames as a normal thing. But,
when I focus on a shot the frames disappear. So, test it out before you add them to
your expenses.

I also agree with the stay with the cue you have, there's confidence already in there.

Good luck , get some good rolls.

Thanks everyone for the hospitality and advise. I'm not sure what I'll do yet but when I do I'll post it.

I would do anything I could to get rid of the glasses. Contacts are better but lasik is best if you're a candidate.
