Jake's Back Pocket 9 Ball Rules @ Cue and Cushion, St. Louis 10.15.2012

1 played like regular 9 ball except you must make the 9 in your back
pocket to win. Player not breaking places a chip or coin near the back
pocket they want....

2 9 ball made in your hole on a good hit wins....9 ball made in
opponents pocket loses.

3 ball in hand on any foul...

4 9 ball moved on a bad hit...opponent has discretion to replace it to
it's original lie...ball in hand to opponent

5 9 ball made in neutral pocket by a lower ball combination on a good
hit...it is immediately spotted... player continues

6 9 ball made in a neutral pocket when it is the only ball left on the
table....9 ball is spotted and opponent shoots from that position...no
ball in hand....

They been playing back pocket 9ball here on the east coast since atlease the 70s that i know of, iam sure its probably been longer then that, That was Jimmy Fuscos game, i dont beleive anybody has ever beaten him playing back pocket(IN HIS PRIME) and i dont think many tried either, they knew better!

hrmmm... interesting concept. I still wont try you any with that game though. :p I'll pull up a chair and observe though. It sounds kinda like last-pocket 8-ball; which is interesting.

To me this seems like the perfect gambling pool game, as you all know it has 9ball in 1pocket in each and every game, when i first ran across this game i really thought it was going to be the most popular pool game of them all, as of now you just dont hear of nobody really gambling at it, i wonder if there was ever a big back pocket 9ball tournament?, if so i never heard of it.

In '95 there was a back pocket 9 ball tourney in Hampton, VA. I believe Grady Mathews put it together and called it the Back Pocket 9-ball Open. At any rate, I do know that Mike Gulyassy beat Grady in the finals.

Thank you very much for that info, very interresting to hear about that, i do know that Gulyassy was one dam good player, and to me his names not mention enough when it comes to great players, as for Grady we all know how awesom he was!

There were a few back pocket matches at the derby. Its a favorite game of one of the fuscos proteges.

Best ever back pocket nine ball player, in my view, was Jimmy Fusco.

yup, and its played a bunch around here. Back pocket slows down a dead runout player and helps a "mover" or one pocket player even out the 9ball game.

Actually, after getting outmoved by a friend of mine Mike Sutterby at back pocket.....I went and learned one pocket! I should thank him! :)

Back pocket 10 ball

Danny Smith and Oscar Dominguez played a set of back pocket 10 ball at DCC this year. I enjoyed sweating some of it. I think it's a great gambling game.

I would say with today's players 10 ball rack is probably the game instead of a 9 ball rack.
