Backer pool?

Just curious if this even exists. Do groups ever pool money to back players? For ex: If I put up $200 (and the group fronts entry fee, hotel, etc., or total amount of cash match) and the group asks for 40%, and I get a percentage of that 40%? I am not a rich man, so no way I could front 10K or something for matching up, but I could do small-time stuff. Is this a possibility? And I realize this might be a stupid question.

That's a good idea, if you hate money. Investing in bitcoin would be a much safer option.

No way. All the pool gambling is done with the players actual money only.

Only the most desperate player would want to have multiple backers. Each backer thinks he owns a piece of you -- and each one does.

Corporations are very much a real thing. splits are determined through negotiation. Unless you are FRIENDS with the player, this is always a bad idea. It is monetary Russian roulette. If you yourself are not at the event, this would be a "no way" scenario.

I'm pretty sure my buddy bergman uses backers sometimes I could be wrong

bad move to back anybody. not even counting the times you get dumped. you are always laying big odds like two to one on the money and few games are ever good enough to do that.

besides if he cant win on his own money how do you think he will do on yours.

It goes on all the time.
Don't listen to everyone not every pool played will do you wrong .

We call 'em "Backers Committees."

For high-stakes gambling against a high roller or someone with deep pockets, a Backers Committee can come in handy. Plus, you have a built-in cheerleader squad of the backers pulling for you to win. :grin-square:

My other half got a Backers Committee on a dice table at Turning Stone one year. Everybody threw in $100, and $15,000 later, we all went home happy campers. It's not just restricted to pool if you have a good horse who can win.

Then there was the time that we were in, I think, Connecticut. Santos was in the house along with Jalapena, and they each deep pockets or backers with deep pockets. They were gunning for Keith, knowing he'd step up to the plate and give them some action. Only problem was, our pockets weren't as deep as theirs, going for a dime a set.

So Keith does what Keith does best and got himself a backers committee. Most everybody in the pool room was betting on the Filipino contingency, so it was hard raising up enough money for a couple sets for Keith, but he did it.

Pool sweaters can be a fickle bunch, I tell you. After Keith's first win against Jalapena, he went on to play Santos and beat him. All of a sudden, those rooting for the Filipino contingency switched sides and wanted to become a member of Keith's Backer Committee, but Keith shut the door on that.

The ride back home was quite nice. Check out that look on Keith's face right after he won the third set. I love that look, and so did Ryan, a member of the McCready Backers Committee, counting his cut. :grin-square:

Corporations are a normal thing. I've been a member of quite a few in my day. Hell, I've got $1500 laid out right now on a set that started yesterday, and that's only about 10% of what's actually being bet.
