Backpack strap for cue cases?

If you're playing a tournament or walking to the pool hall, the single strap that cue cases have can get quite uncomfortable. Why hasn't anyone made cases with a backpack strap, or have I just never seen one? Golf bags used to be made with single straps, but now backpack straps are the norm and I'm surprised that the case makers haven't followed suite.

Personally, my pool room is located downtown surrounded by parking meters. I have to park 5 blocks away and walk down there to avoid having to run out and move my car every 2 hours. Backpack straps would make that walk more comfortable.

Sterling has cases with a backpack style strap.

Also, I'm sure any custom case maker would be more than happy to make a case with this type of strap.

I didn't know Sterling had some. I was sure custom cases could be made with them, but I was wondering why the single strap is still the norm. I can't even remember the last serious golf bag I saw that didn't have a backpack strap, even bags made for carts have one. It just seems a little silly to me that cue cases aren't utilizing them more frequently.

You just haven't seen them. But to your point, alll of them should have the option.

My friend Jack Justis.... He should have the option. The Whittens? They should have the option. Jim Murnak had the backstraps, but he's stopped taking orders. John Barton can do backstraps but I don't know where John stands on new orders.

I am guessing there is not much demand for this.
Cues are pretty light compared to golf clubs.

Pictures Please!!!!

My next purchase will be backpack straps!! My friend got a butterfly case with backpack straps and after wearing it a few times to test it out I won't buy a case with out backpack straps!!! But all straps are not the same and I tried some backpack straps that were uncomfortable for a big guy like me so you really need to try it first and then buy.

Get JB to make you a case with detachable straps and he can make you several different types or profile straps to assure you get what you want!!! Just a suggestion a little more work for JB and given shipping $$$ you want to do this once and get it RIGHT!!!

I think all the Wave cases in the the Sterling line come with double straps. Perhaps maybe not a 1x2 but the higher capacity cases do, I think. Real handy if you ride a motorcycle.

I recall someone asking for the double straps. I quoted an additional $75 and never heard from him again. Was that you Freddie? I might offer it as an option if enough customers requested it but I don't see it happening. I think its more popular among league players. Can you see Efren harnessed up with a case on his back.:grin-square:

We have made many cases with backpack straps. We charge $25 for the extra strap.

Ergonomically I prefer to make ones which have a single D-ring on the bottom and two d-rings at the top.

We also do pads that are made to fit in the shoulder blade and ride comfortably without slipping.

Here is a list of 17 options on our cases which are customizable and the choices within each. http://www.jbcases.com/orderform-options.html

Here are the strap types we offer: http://jbcases.com/handles-straps.html

Freddie's was a short case for a 3 piece Sheldon LeBow cue. For his I did a more traditional backpack style that allows him to cinch the straps by pulling on them while wearing it. This is a better solution for those who ride motorcycles and bikes.

Here is a very good shot of the two main styles we do: (for this customer I provided both for him to use as needed)

1. More elegant -

2. More traditional and easier to use:

For the Wave cases I made the straps comfy and tested them myself by walking all around Xiamen to the pool rooms here. I have walked up to five miles with a full 3x6 on my back.

More than you think. A full case weighs anywhere from 5-15lbs depending on the type of case and size. You can alleviate some of this weight by using lighter leather and a lightweight build. But when the cues are swinging freely inside the case this also adds to the stress on the shoulder.

So what we do is make sure the cues don't move. We make the pads ergonomic to fit the shoulder blade and we add generous padding. Adding the second strap and doing it in an offset manner really distributes the weight evenly across both shoulders and reduces the stress on the body accordingly.

Lots of professional players are given high end leather cases for free, even ones which describe themselves as lightweight but when you see these same pro players at events they often don't carry the high end leather case they were given for free and instead often opt for a very lightweight butterfly style case.

Professional players often find themselves at strange venues where they end up having to walk around a lot carrying their cases. So they don't want to stress their shoulders and back unnecessary. I could name names but I wont. I have the pix to prove it because naturally I am interested in what cases people carry and why.

Interesting comments John, because I too notice more soft sided butterfly cases at pro events than you normally see at the local pool room or that you would expect to see the pros using. But of course, they may be using a different case for transport, or packing the butterfly in their luggage.

True. They might be using the free hard case they got to ship the cues in. I have seen Efren's Justis with "fragile" stickers on it and airline barcode tags. But at events he sometimes carries a soft case around.

I am currently making a case for a top player who shall remain unnamed because the case was purchased as a gift for him. It is our mason style which is semi-hard and very light. I am tossing in a nylon travel case with hard plastic inserts for him to pack the case in. This travel bag should withstand the baggage handlers pretty good and keep the case and cues safe.

Rrrrright, them back pack straps, even the nice ones look about as cool as those fat red white and blue suspenders....just sayin. Another option is to put the single shoulder strap over your head, more comfy but still kinda dorky looking. I say buckle it in the hole that makes it longest and let it hang low like Slash's guitar. When it comes to pool, I would rather look like I'm cuttin class, instead of a target for the lunch money muggers.

Oh hush, you don't make cases for people that have to lug them anywhere. :-)

We are talking comfort here not looks. Someone who buys your case has a valet to carry it for them.........

Plus my backpack straps rock. Don't you have a saddle stitch to keep your hands busy :-)

I would of thought the pros would use a locking hard aluminum case to travel with when flying. Then use the soft case at the tournament. That's what I would do anyhow. That or get a road case for whatever type of case I wanted to carry at the tournament.

If I couldn't run over it with a truck without damage I wouldn't fly with it that's for sure.
